1. OMG that is so scary!!! I'm so glad they're okay! Magic doesn't wear a collar, only when we go out.
2. I adopted Magic when she was one and she was such a monster. She
3. No, sorry. The only word I know is platz because one day I decided it would be cute if I taught my German Shepherd commands in German. :drinking: I have a whole list of commands in German none of which I know how to pronounce! I
4. LMAO!!! What would you do for fun and excitement (other than video games) without a dog????? Magic does stuff like that too but she's my girl and can't do anything wrong. :lilangel: I make excuses to myself like I should have taken her to the park like I was going to and exhausted her running around and these things wouldn't have happen.
5. Two thumbs up and hugs to you!!!! People give up or euth. their dogs for the stupidest reasons, like the dog pee's in the house. I would be rich if I had a dime for every time someone asked if I was going to keep Magic because she is dog aggressive. She is absolutly perfect (just dog aggressive and I can handle it) I love her to death and I wouldn't even give her up over my dead body - I'd have to come back as an evil spirit to make sure she gets the best which she desires. Teeth and ear problems are commom. Clean their ears and clean their teeth. It's so wonderful you guys found eachother. You're someone that can give her the life she needs full of love. Good for you! Thanks for sharing and keep us updated please!
6. I know it's been suggested but I also vote for crating her until she can prove herself to not soil in your house and chew weird misc. items. Things you know she will chew and are in her reach you should make the effort to put away in a closet or somewhere they -the tag team can't get to. LOL I have one idea, she might have seperation anxiety? For pooing and peeing in the house - do a housebreaking refresher course until she's back on track.
7.
The chops were boneless so I don't have to worry about that. And yes his poops were normal today. :D
I was wondering if they were boneless. That's good. Give Buck cuddles for me.
8. I'm glad to hear he is being his normal self again. Does he seem okay after eating cooked bones, are his poops regular and he's not sick?
9. Awww poor thing. I'm wishing for a good recovery for whatever treatment(s)/surgery he has to have to make him all better. Hugs and kisses to your little man Devin. Oh look at that picture of the handsome devil - he's perfect!!! How could anyone not instantly, madly fall in love with that pupper? Isn't that the sweetest face you ever saw!
10. Cat food is bad for dogs. I would not allow my dog to eat cat food. Cat's require a lot more protein than dogs so it is not suitable or safe for dogs. They love it but they can't have it - cat's only. :)
11. Yuck! For some reason when I read the title of the post I thought it was "Awwww" guess what I found and was expecting to see or hear about something cute. Magic had one of those gross Medical treats (that the vet gives you) in her Kong - I put it in there when I got her the Kong. She hated the Kong and the Medical treats so it was stuck in there for like a year. Can you imagine the crazy preservatives in those treats - it didn't mold at all and looked the exact same after a whole year!! :-?
12. Humm there must have been something in the air last night. I always give Magic a bed time snack and last night I cut up an apple and I peeled a banana but didn
13. You can add oil to her food - I can't remeber which kind is the best, I think it's Salmon oil?? Olive oil? Maybe someone here will know. You could also use a humidifier in your home. In the winter the air inside the home is so dry and that's why they get dry flakey skin.
14.
HI JACSMOM!! welcome back I am finding its not just bloodhounds, but hounds in general. My Foxhound is the same way...they are very sensitive, you cant yell at them or they get depressed, but if you dont stop them they take over. I think they're too intelligent and are playing us, personally....
My German Shepherd is like this but not sensitive, man that would make it hard!!! Especially for me! I thought it was a girl thing? Maybe it is a bit? I use NILIF (Nothing In Life Is Free) and it helps a lot because your dog gets what they want/need but don't just expect it. They have to work for it so they don't take things for granted. Their overall behaviour is better because they are not so pushy, bossy or forceful with what they want. They look to you focused, "what do you want me to do so I can have that" whether it is, a treat, their dinner, a play session or a trip outside or anything: Nothing In Life Is Free! :D
15. That sounds like a great idea. As well as the general info how about we write about our experiences with different ages and breeds of dog. For example I housebroke an eight-week-old and 6 month old Sheltie puppy the same but differently from my one-year-old German Shepherd rescue. I guess like case studies to add on that might be helpful.
16. TDG - Should it be in the same feeding? Or can it be in a different meal of the day? TIA! "What kind of meat did you buy? human grade (which is generally okay but needs to be balanced with calcium)"
17. Yeah Standard Poodles rock! I was originally shocked to find out that they are the #1 most intelligent breed, followed by #2 BCs and #3 GSDs. Now having worked with dogs, I have so much respect for Standards from my "pretty showdog" thoughts of the breed from before. They are so popular now as service dogs for the blind, SAR... you name it. Though I can't really imagine a person stopping in their tracks with a poodle on hot pursuit of them. It's the prissy dog idea we have of the breed. I don't know if I'm right but I heard before that PSDs also benefit because there usually is no chase, people are afraid of the dogs and give up as soon as the officer say's their going to release the dog. Sure they have to know and be able to show their stuff too. APBT's are a very versatile breed I think. If they were bred and trained for it, they could do the job!
18. I think you should get in a good obedience program where they will teach you what you
19. LMAO!!!!! :D That is soooo cute! People think I'm crazy because I have water bowl in every room from Magic.
20. hehehehehe :P :D What a monkey!!! We had the no couch rule too but it only lasted a week. (We did well with the no bed rule though - we gave in after a year!!!) Now we've gone through two couches with Magic! That's an average of one couch per year. The first one she chewed up when she was younger. The second one that we still have now, she stepped in paint when we were painting the hallway and then she went on the couch so there's paw prints on it and she put a few holes from her toenails through the covering and they keep getting bigger and bigger. The couch looks sooo ghetto! The next one is going to be another hand-me-down from my parents but it's only two years old, so like new and it's so nice and I don't know if I'll want Magic to use it. I guess I can keep the old one all for her, and keep the cover over it so it doesn't look so bad. I'll never have nice things with dogs. The rat is just as bad - he chewed my nice, expensive duet cover the day I put it on.
21. When I adopted Magic she had an "extra" dew claw (just hanging off) on one of her rear feet - it's not suppose to be there and usually breeders remove it as a puppy. (Who knows where she came from though because she's adopted). She has two, one on each of her front feet, they're suppose to be there, for a German Shepherd. When I got her someone suggested I have all three removed becuase they could get caught on something and cause her great pain. I only had the one on the rear foot removed when I took her in to get spayed. I'm glad I didn't have the ones on her front feet removed because I later found out they're suppose to be there and she uses them for everything - it would be like cutting off her thumbs. Having said that, well...first I would go with what has been recommended here...is it an "extra" dew claw?
22. LOL Magic does muffled woofs in her sleep. She also twitches and looks like she's running in her dreams.
23. Cool, I wish me and Magic danced.............in public. If we did we would have so many songs...one's that always make me think of her, remind me of her and stuff - they're my Majie songs. (BTW I am weird). We have... - Girls just wanna have fun (is that Cyndi Loper?) - I'm so excited (Tina Turner) LOL that is sooo Magic "I'm so excited, and I just can't hide it, I'm about to lose control and I think I like it" LMAO that is my Magic! :ghost_2: - She drives me crazy (don't know who the heck that is by?) Haah brain fart, I can't think of the gazillion others...oh just about any song that has the word magic in it is a Magic song. Do you guys have songs? Choose the one that has the most meaning for you guys. :)
24. I used a clicker to teach Magic all her tricks - takes seconds!!! It is a magical tool! If that interests you, check out www.clickertraining.com it will give you enough info to get you started.
