1.
as she grew older she out grew doing it
That's interesting! I think Magic is growing out of it too.
2. I don't know much about calcium deposits but your post led me to this site: http://www.inkabijou.co.uk/gout.htm It talks about gout and calcium deposits. Actually my fianc
3. I think Magic doesn't do it as much anymore because she is getting older and is not as much of a wired spaz as she use to be. I am sure it would help if you keep her busy physically and mentally, exercise her a lot, do OB training sessions daily, play games, get her a cat  send her to doggie daycare etc..
4. My dog does that too but she's not so bad anymore. She is obsessive compulsive. :-?
5. Is it the same person that posted on the Leerburg BB yesterday, she's going to foster a hound/Dobie X. She sounds so clueless.
6. That is beautiful! You are very talented! :)
7. You're right she should probably get the dog first and work with him then evaluate why type of training tool to use. I don't think its the rule :) but usually you start off with positive methods then move on to a prong collar as a last resort. Shock collars scare me to death.
8. Paws crossed too. I just have to say that it seems he's gone through a lot of different types of food recently “He has had very loose stools despite the fact that we've given him four different types of food,” and that's not good for sensitive stomachs. It takes awhile for them to recover from that change and the result is almost always diarrhea. It might be contributing to your loose stools?
9. I noticed you mentioned jelly poop - I've seen that with dogs with colitis, it's smelly too but I don't know much about colitis. I've tried Royal Canine GSD, I have a 5lb sample bag from work. I use it as treats, I don't like the ingredients though and it is so over priced. I guess they have to charge a lot to pay for all the free bags of food they give out and the nice dog food tins. I have a nice Royal Canine German Shepherd Encyclopedia too I got free. The only concerns I've heard from GSD owners is that the feeding recommendations are too high and their dogs got fat. Someone worked with us for awhile who was a Royal Canine Rep. she said they didn't recommend they read the book "Foods Pets Die For." I hope little Azzo is okay. Have you mentioned it to his breeder to see what they have to say? For now I might try homemade food like chicken and rice, pumpkin or stuff that might help firm up that poop. TDG can help you out there.
10. Are they doing the TLI test? If they are let us know the score when you get back the results. EPI is such a problem with GSDs. Magic doesn't have it but has soft stools all the time, I think GSDs genetically have problems with enzyme digestion. When I use Prozyeme her stools are nice and solid. My parents dog has EPI but he doesn't like to eat much. Actually the only noticable signs of it without the powder is he is underweight, has cow pattie light colour stool and is tired because of being malnourished. I work at a kennel and whenever dogs come in that have it, its the same thing, again, light colour cow pattie stool. Good luck
11. There is some info on this site scroll down past the bloat stuff. http://siriusdog.com/articles/torsion-dog-megaesophagus2.htm
12. With EPI the stools are like cow patties and very light in colour, like a cream/tan shade. The treatment is a strict diet, I think high in protein and low in fat and fiber? Maybe I have it the wrong way around? You would have to look it up, and a homemade diet is the best because you can't buy kibble that meets those requirements. Your dog also can't stay alive unless he is on something like Pancreas V Powder or another synthetic pancreas suppliment or real pig pancreas ground up in a blender (I think you need a note from the vet to buy it). The powder has to sit on top of the food for 20 mins so that it works properly. I think for a GSD it costs (if I remember correctly) 60-80 dollars a month but much less if you buy real pig pancreas at the butcher. The only other things I know about EPI is that if it occurs before the age of 2 then it is genetics and if it happens after the age of 2 then it is cause by diet. It is hard to keep weight on a dog with EPI, I think because you have to be strict about diet and experiment with the amount of Pancreas powder your dog needs. I know there is a BB if I find the link I will post it for you.
13.
It's much easier people to judge when your on the outside looking in, then it is when your on the inside looking out. But now its come to a head. for everyones sake, Patti needs to be put down. I am VERY sorry....
I'm sorry, if the situation had been dealt with more smartly then Pattie would not have bitten the son and would not have to be PTS. My suggestion is if you love your dog X, then find someone that can handle her. Someone who has knowledge and experience with the breed. It breaks my heart that everyone quickly jumps to the conclusion that the dogs has to be PTS. There is a place for it but not in this situation, I don't think so. This is so sad. I'm not trying to judge but I don't think X took on these 3 Rotties with enough knowledge of the breed and they're behaviour, at least now she knows and hopefully it never happens again. I'm not trying to sound mean, it happens, you just have to learn from this.
14. Don't shave him!!! I'm not a groomer...yet :) but I've heard that with some dogs (not intended to be shaved) their hair never grows back at all or never grows back properly. I bathe my German Shedder once a month and brush and blow dry her. It helps reduce shedding. I use an undercoat rake and curry brush - it's pretty much like the kong brush TDG mentioned. The best way to solve your shedding problem...get use to it! LOL
15. This is a truly unfortunate situation. I have to agree with JaquelineC 100% I almost barfed when I read that a fight happened again and then I did barf a bit in my mouth when I looked down a little and found out that the dog has to be PTS. I’m guessing they quarantine the dog for 10 days to make sure she doesn’t have rabies. I am sad and very angry this was the outcome. I think next time someone on this BB is in a situation like this we have to immediately direct him or her to a dog trainer. (Like when someone comes here and says my dogs stomach is expanding like a balloon and I think he is bloating what should I do – you say go to the vet ASAP this is an emergency, your dog could die!). This was a life or death emergency too, you know what I’m saying? There are some things that cannot be solved on a BB!!!! Most of us are just plain old dog lovers and have opinions about dog training but aren’t the real deal and this is serious! Dogs fighting a people getting bite? Hopefully something was learnt here.
16. I use a prong collar. It's the only thing I feel comfortable using when I take Magic out because she is dog aggressive. I find that she a lot more aggressive and out of control with a Gentle Leader. With the prong collar her aggression doesn't esclate and she will mind me with a strong correction on her collar. It's the only thing I've tried that gets threw to her while she's in her "point of no return" aggressive mode. I don't think I could ever use a shock collar I think it really screws them up mentally. I've seen an example of this in a dog aggressive GSD at work who seems to be human aggressive too now since he has been using the collar, I'm pretty sure it's because of the shock collar. Sorry getting way off topic.
17. Magic is noble. She is not afraid of anything, she's bold and pushy. She's nosey and has to know everything, I think she almost knows everything. She is very smart and her senses are amazing. She's independent. I could just talk forever about my dog. :D She's determind and can do anything (which is not always a good thing) - one reason this makes me nervous is I know of two Sheps that have jumped threw a glass window in the last year, Magic would so do that. German Shepherds are crazy. :D I adopted Magic when she was about 8 months to one year old. When I got her she was not affectionate at all and she was dog from hell. She could think of one bad thing to do right after another all day long! Oh she's creative too LOL I am so glad she grew up a bit she is a wonderful dog to live with. She is quite affectionate now.
18.

I'm very sorry to hear that. I wondered every time I saw your sig pic how you got three Rottweilers to get along.
My friend has 4 Rotties. 2 males (3 years and 5 years) and 2 females (3 years and 4 years) and they get along just fine.
That's impressive! Are they working lines or show lines, just wondering?
19. I'm very sorry to hear that. I wondered every time I saw your sig pic how you got three Rottweilers to get along. Wow giving up a dog would be tough! At least you can make sure she goes to a perfect home.
20. Oh how yummy! Majies drooling. :D HAPPY BIRTHDAY JADA!!!!!!!!!!!! :new-bday:
21.
How about Greyfriars Bobby? The little Skye Terrier that guarded over his late master's grave for 14 yrs, til he died. I saw the monument in Edinburgh a few yrs ago...its beautiful.
I went to the monument too. That was my favorite story when I was growing up.
22. I doubt anyone here can properly diagnose what's wrong with your Mastiff. I would take him to the VET and I wouldn't wait either because he might (if not eating) have a blockage from something he ate and could die.
23. It sounds like allergies. Magic was allergic to a certain type of food and she kept licking her paws. They were red and were bleeding with scabs. What do you feed him?
24. What does your dog do when there is a thunderstorm? Magic doesn't care she doesn't do anything but sometimes when the thunder gets really loud she barks at it like to say "shut up!" I've heard of dogs hurting themselves because they are so afraid like scratching and biting things and ripping off nails and breaking teeth.
25. You should try to find out if there is somewhere near you that can do allergy testing. There is one I know of called Red Paw but I don't know if there is one in your area. They do blood tests that tell you exactly what your dog is allergic to. Maybe your vet can send a blood sample to a Lab that can do the testing. There's two tests I think - environmental and food allergies. It's about $130 Canadian for all the tests. There isn't such a food that will help all dogs with all types of allergies because you have to know what your dog is allergic to. I have not done testing but my dog is allergic to the only "food for dogs with allergies" that I've tried. It was Wellness Fish and Sweet Potatoe and is designed for dogs with allergies because it contains a unique meat protein - fish.
