1. She sounds like a very healthy weight. A lot of people tell me my dog is too skinny to but I know she is a good weight, I feed her enough anyways. Most dogs are overweight, so compared to most dogs your dog will look really skinny but she's perfect if you can see ribs. :)
2. I think that if you can't feel or see ribs then your dog is overweight. I feed more then the guideline because my dog has a high metabolism, she gets 4 cups/day (Innova) and is 68lbs. (I think that's what they recommend for a 100lb dog?). I also add lots of home prepared add ons and treats and stuff so she gets a lot more food each day. I go by the guideline that if I can't feel ribs and Majie doesn't have a nice tuck in her waist then I need to cut back.
3. I am very sorry to hear that. Thinking of you and Apollo.
4.
After seeing mr. Green puppy, I started talking out loud listing the multitude of reasons why now is NOT the time to get a puppy!
That sounds about right for me too. :) Soon!
5. I would not recommend a German Shepherd to very many people. Don't get me wrong they are the best breed  but not a lot of people can handle a GSD. GSDs and Shih Tzus are nothing alike other than that they are both dogs, just incase you think a GSD would be like a 85lb Shih Tzu. In my opinion from what you wrote and what you're looking for you should not get a German Shepherd, get an alarm system.
6. No we don't have hot water rads here, we did at our old place. They would squeal once and a while and we had to let the air out but it never really bothered Magic. We have the air conditioning on now it's hot!
7. I doubt a rolled leather collar would get stinky. I stopped leaving a collar on Magic because she's so crazy she'd probably hang herself with it on. It also ruined the hair around her neck and it took over 6 months to grow back. Forget the collar! I just get use to grabbing her by the scruff of the neck when I have too and only use a collar when we go for a walk.
8. I did see an ant last week downstairs and there is a little bit of an infestation of ants outside (I think because of the peanees (sp?) flowers - they attract ants.) There is nothing - no signs of anything there now though.
9. Awwwwwwwwwwwwwww I'm glad I get my puppy fix on the Internet or I'd have too many dogs! I can't believe I only have one dog but she is like the equivalent of 4 or 5 dogs so I'm good for now. :)
10. For the last few days Magic has gone crazy because she can smell something in the corner of the rec room downstairs. There is nothing there! It’s just an empty space where the hardwood floors meet the wall. We just moved here in May so it is a new house to us (but not new). I wish I knew what it was she was going so crazy sniffing over. I guess I’ve been watching too may dog shows where the dog sniffs out, cancer, toxic mold, drugs bombs etc. LOL The area she would be sniffing is underground on the other side. hummm Some days I just wish I could just speak to my dog. :-?
11. Awww there is nothing more sweet then the site of a puppy or dog sleeping!!! :iloveyou:
12. Magic sleeps in my bed, her bed or on the couch at night. During the day she sleeps in hallway doorways so that she has view of multiple rooms. She is the kind of dog that has to see/know whats going on at all times or she goes mental.
13. I would understand if it wasn’t an off leash area but it was! He really overreacted! In off leash areas you are setting yourself up for dogs running wild to come up to you and your dog(s), you know, use at your own risk. :drinking: For normal dogs, :D (I'm so jealous of you guys with normal dogs) a dog running up to another is excellent distraction training! His dogs won’t get trained if he doesn’t welcome that kind of distraction. I am so anal about people taking their dogs out off leash because I like to take my dog out too, on leash of course, ALWAYS! My dog is dog aggressive and I don’t want her to hurt a dog if they come up to her because they’re off leash where they should be, by law. I’d be the one to be penalized for it too. :x So far none of the off leash dogs we’ve encounter have ever come right up to her – but I wouldn’t either, if they aren’t scared off by her lunging and barking they are scared off by my waving my arms and screaming in a very harsh voice “GO HOME!, GET!, OUTTA HERE!!!” :evilbat: I wouldn't worry about it.
14. If you can't foster you should definitly volunteer at the shelter. You can't always save a life but you can make a few short lives more enjoyable.
15. I always thought that if I were an animal I would have been a wolf. Coincidentally, my sister had a disturbing dream once that she was in the forest and there were wolves ambushing her. She had to fight them off with a big stick, she kept hitting one over and over until it stopped attacking her. The wolf turned into me and I lay there dying on the ground. Weird dream. :drinking:
16. I saw that one but can't remember why the lady had the Cheetahs.
17. I feed Innova mostly and a commercial modified raw food – it’s partially cooked. I also feed home cooked meals and leftovers or even part of my dinner (I don’t know it may be the other way around because I make it to be suitable for Magic but make something I would like to eat too. Yeah I eat dog food.) Magic gets a little bit of everything that way I figure she might get a good variety of all the good stuff, the vitamins and nutrients. I have a lot of research to do because I don’t know how to feed my dog an entire menu of balanced home cooked meals. I would like to get the Dr. Pitcairn book that TDG recommended. I really enjoy cooking for my dog though and that’s what I am aiming for in the future, feeding just home cooked meals. I’m not comfortable with feeding raw meat. I add Prozyme and organic kelp and alfalfa to Magic’s meals. Some of the things on the “Majie Grocery List” are: Eggs, yogurt, cottage cheese, oatmeal, honey, apples, bananas, pears, strawberries, carrots, green beans, sweet potatoes, broccoli, brown rice, little bow-tie pasta and chicken and beef. I use to feed salmon and other fish but I think Magic is allergic to fish now. When I got Magic 2
18. Magic responds to certain tones in words but I can't think of any of those words off the top of my head. She does her deep stare and exaggerated GSD head tilt from side to side. It's mostly high pitched words or words that sound like other words i.e. "tree" and "treat" :) Magic's magic word is "go." If you are downstairs having a conversation and she is upstairs and you use the word "go" in a sentence - she is there in under a second! She has radar ears!
19. I have not read any posts to this thread yet but I want to tell you my story because it was a similar incident. When I was 11 yrs old we had a 14-yr. old miniature poodle and one-day he was “attacked” and killed (well had to be PTS) by our neighbor’s daughters German Shepherd. We never closed the gate in our backyard because our dog never left the yard. On this day the GSD came into our yard and right before my eyes (didn’t attack) but picked up my little poodle by the neck and continued to carry him in his mouth to the neighbors backyard. My dog was squealing and I ran after him and scared off the GSD and brought my dog back home bleeding to death in my arms. When I got inside my house my dad told me to put him down and he was screaming in agony on the floor that it broke my heart beyond belief. He was rushed to the vets but had to be PTS. I don’t recall much of what happened after that as a result but remember the neighbors not saying much in their defense but they said, “maybe he thought he was a squirrel or rabbit.” I know now that neither of us were responsible dog owners letting our dogs run free, unconfined or not on a leash and without supervision. (I don’t consider myself at 11yrs old as being supervision). While I was so angry and always thought it was the neighbors fault I realized it was our fault too, not that it will bring our little dog back but it is a lessened learned (the hard, very hard way). I now have a German Shepherd, who is dog aggressive by the way. I never allow her off leash and she is always supervised, I know what a dog like her can do. I never forget how my dog died when I was 11. Ok read the post - troll stuff - oh well keeping my reply. :)
20. Dogs are the best!
21. Oh I call my dog everything. She gets "pumpkin," "peanut," "sweet pea," "silly monkey," "hen," "pet," and "sugar." I also call her "monster" or "pyscho dog" and "baby girl" Mostly I call her "Majie-girl," "Majie-baby" or "Majie-monster" Her real name is Magic BTW
22.
i'm about to go with my friend to see if he want this puppy. fingers crossed.
Okay fingers and paws crossed here. How can anyone say "no" to that face. I think it would be pysically impossible! :)
