1. yes, pit bulls are the only dogs that will kill cats. that's why there's a long standing image of dog vs. cat. maybe i should seperate roxy from her 4 cat sisters and brother. i mean, you know, she is a pit bull afterall.
 2. you should definitely call the authorities on this person. if that doesn't work, you could always "liberate" them in the middle of the night. animals don't deserve to be treated in such a way. personally i think your friend needs to get punched in the face.
 3. that's terrific. as far as the animal control folks go, i think we all have to realize that not everyone is as well versed on the subject of dogs as we all are. it really sucks that animal control is seen as some sort of authority on animals and that the ignorant statements made on these shows will be taken as fact by a lot of viewers. the fact is, animal control are often just people doing a job. they are supposed to be licensed, but that is more in regards to how to handle animals and such and not general information about breeds and behavior. sometimes (like the shelter i work at) animal control are simply "go betweens" who pick up animals and drop them off at the shelter. more like dog catchers than what people would expect from something as official sounding as animal control. we also need to realize that, whatever the ac officers say on the show regarding the dogs, has very little bearing on the actual fate of the dog. animal control doesn't make decisions about suitability for adoption or whether or not a dog is going to be put down. that's done by shelter staff and trained evaluators. of course there are exceptions to every rule. there are highly trained, extremely knowledgeable aco's, but they're few and far between. if you want to see bad animal control, come to my shelter. the rejects we have to deal with are afraid of dogs and refuse to pick up cats (even though they're required by law). and don't forget, the general television watching audience doesn't want to see peaches and cream. people don't want to see the poor lhasa being taken from it's elderly owners who've neglected it for years. yea it tugs at our heart strings, but it's not noteworthy. now, abused pit bulls confiscated from a drug house/dog fighting ring, THAT'S EXCITING! it seems rediculous but just look at the news. they have a saying, "what bleeds, leads" when it comes down to it, it's not about animals it's about ratings.
 4. it's hard to tell from that picture, but it sure doesn't look like he's got an pit in him. then again he did bite someone so he must be at least part pit bull if not purebred.
 5. best in show is sooo funny. i always try to catch it on tv since i don't own a copy of it. how hilarious is it when the female owner of the terrier (is her name cookie?) comes out after the terrier wins? she's walking all funny because she messed up her ankle. HILARIOUS!
 6. great piece! at least someone seems to get that bsl in inherently flawed.
 7.
I also hate how they say at the bottom about all the different Bully Breeds to be all Pit Bulls
actually, pit bull is a generic name usually refering to apbts, amstaffs, and staffies. so technically, it's not wrong.
 8.
Well as some of you know I have two dogs, one spoiled brat, and the other a family pet.But when the family dog was given to us it had behavioral issues. It was also teething.I did what I could to stop this.Treats, water spray, toys, ect.
you can't stop teething, you can only help relieve the dog's pain. teething isn't a behavioral problem, it's a part of life for a growing puppy.
The dog is unsocialable. So we had no other choice but to take it to the shelter.
a four month old dog is unsociable? i highly doubt it. what exactly did you do to try and socialize him? where did you take him?
It almost killed one dog (there was blood all over the other dog's coat and neck) and keeps biting especially children.
i don't know if i believe the situation was as serious as you make it out to be. i could be wrong, but 4 month old puppies are rarely this aggressive. was he biting children or nipping, as puppies are prone to doing? was the biting malicious or playful?
I want to blame the shetler we got her from for giving us a dog so unruly, because they're suppose to train it and see if its suitable for a family,so it won't do harm to anyone like bite somone or something.
no. shelters are not supposed to train your dog for you. many do check for temperment, but i suspect most shelters are too busy to train a dog in obedience. temperment testing is also not foolproof. a dog can behave very differently in a shelter enviroment then in a home. it is also difficult for shelters to assess how a dog will behave around children since children aren't usually hanging around the shelter. shelter workers can only do so much.
And i want to blame myself for not giving the dog some more time and spend more time with it.After a month or two I sorta gave up and it was just food everyday, treats n toys once in a while, and a bath every two weeks. While I had my other dog treated like a pamper pooch.I had two dogs before.A rottweiler and the current pampered pooch.I treated them equally the same and everything.Sometimes as its a larger breed I fed it more treats than the small one.
so you didn't spend time with the dog and you're upset when he doesn't behave? well SURPRISE! dogs are companion animals who thrive on human contact. puppies are especially needy. i find it hard to believe you truly tried to socialize this dog since you gave up on him after only two months. why was this dog so different from your other "pampered" pets? i guess since he wasn't perfect he's not worthy of love. you should blame yourself. you sent this dog to a shelter to be put down after you neglected him for not being perfect. you should feel bad.
But with this dog I don't know why I neglected it and I know they're going to put her to sleep because she had started a fight with another dog once we got there.Should I be feeling this guilt or was it the right thing to do?
fighting with other dogs is not necessarily a death sentence. it will be much harder to adopt him out, but it may be done. obviously this wasn't the right thing to do. i can't believe you even have to ask. this post made me unbelievable angry. i find it hard to believe that someone who calls her dog "it" is truly a dog lover. a dog is not an it. did he even have a name? apparently you've frequented this board before, so there is no excuse for this kind of behavior.
Sorry I haven't been here in a while, been caught up with other things, good to be back though!
oh! well terrific!! :o
 9. that reminds me of something that happened not too long ago. we had this architect come to our house for something. when he came in roxy went over to get some lovin', so the guy started petting her and said, "wow, this is a really nice dog!" then he got this weird look on his face, pulled back a little and said, "it's not a pit bull mix or anything is it?" i said no and he looked so relieved and went back to petting her...until of course i said "she 100% purebred pit bull." :shocked!:
 10. though i am sorry for your loss, like others i can't help but be bothered by your immediate thought to the money lost with the death of your dog. if he provided you with companionship and loyalty who gives a crap how much he cost. that said, i seriously doubt anything will happen to your neighbor. he is wrong for not talking to you about the situation, but animal control generally does not follow up very well. beyond that, i'm not sure that an attack on another dog is grounds for removal of an animal. i could be wrong, as laws are different in different places, but a neighbor of mine has a dog that has attacked and killed two dogs and nothing happened. probably the worst that will come of the sitaution is a ticket for having the dog off-leash (if it was off leash)
 11.
I objected to your original post simply because it implied the opposite--that aggression toward other animals in pit bulls (and even more particularly in the two pit bulls pictured) is NOT problematic and that thinking that it ipit bull aggression toward other animals is a serious problem is an appropriate object of sarcasm.
this is where YOU are missing the point. i highly doubt that this was the intention of ckeeky's post. more likely is that she was poking fun at the idea that ALL pit bulls are horrible killing beasts that attack and maim anything and everything. as rediculous as it seems many people feel this way. ckeeky was simply sharing a cute picture that proves that some pit bulls can and do get along with other animals. you really need to get a better hobby.
 12. i don't get too many stupid questions/comments but here goes: "that can't be a pit bull, it's too small" then i'll try to explain some of the breed standard and explain how the 90lb monsters aren't really pit bulls. "why does your pit bull have her ears and tail? don't you know you're suppposed to cut them off?" i spent 20 minutes unsucessfullly trying to convince this person otherwise. "yo, where you get that dog? my girl just got one and we want to breed" ugghhhhhh. the best ever though was: "wow! is that one of those blue pits?" while staring at roxy who's a fawn and white rednose. i didn't even know what to say.
 13.
Thus they say that education can't work, and they don't WANT laws. They just want the status quo to continue.
completely inaccurate.
 14. i pretty much agree with what everyone has said. though a pit bull should not show human aggression, this dog, through mistreatment and abuse, had been conditioned to behave this way. i'm sure working with both his new girlfriend and his dog they would have been able to work the dog throuh its problems. just another example of the disposable way people think of pets.
 15. not to be a pest but, andrea it's "pit" not "pitt" but thanks for supporting pitties anyway!
