Lucky Chaos
So we are on the same page. Personally I like a lean dog, but I'm not a fan of huge muscles.
merickson1131
I have just read all the posts to this chat and I dont think that really anyone has been defensive. It seems to me that no matter what breed of dog you are talking about owners of that breed think that their dog is the best. That is wonderful because that mean that they really love there dog but people should be more open minded when it comes to other breeds or subbreed. Such as the AmerStaff. I agree that sometimes they are squished in a sense, but not all AMerStaff are like that. Its the same with APBT. If you breed wrong you can end-up with a Squishy looking dog. By the way, Pheasant718 I really like the way your dog looks. I prefer a longer legged dog. I dont really like the stumpy APBT.

Lucky Chaos
Even my pit mix girl has natural muscle, after not walking for 5 days cause of her injury she still looks like this:
gooeydog
You can't actually tell me the dog above could look like this: ADBA "GR CH I" ADBA ACE" Rebels Red Ace" DNA-p, TT
Just wanted to point out one thing, this dog is a UKC dog too, and has shown successfully in UKC, just not in ADBA shape. Same dog, same conformation, just a few less or more pounds. You can see more of him here: http://www.victorinoskennel.com/ACE/ACE1.HTML
imported_Kat
To me, the original pit posted a few posts ago is an excellent specimen and just has the right balance to make up the body condition, but to be able to see those ribs, regardless of how much muscle the other dog has, tells me from a veterinary point of view that the dog is far too thin. AllAmericanPUP
She's talking about it be a flaw in the breed, it's not.
I am now?? Thank YOU for telling ME what I was talking about  i never once said that a "squishy" dog was a flaw or anything of the sort so I have nooooo idea where you got that from
__crazy_canine__
I do think that some APBT are conditioned to the extreme. If those dogs were human and working out like that to be so thin and muscular theyd probably think you were anorexic or soemthing. :o Rebels Red Ace was a little too thin for my liking. :-? Tessa however was conditioned but not excessively. Her body is in perfect condition IMO. ...uh LC did you see my previous post? I had asked you a question. Just wondering since you havent replied yet.

In the second picture he is shown at an ADBA show, but you can see he does not appear quite as "thin" as he does in the first picture showing him straining on the leash. Dogs are not kept in ADBA condition all the time. Dogs are usually conditioned according to what showing they will be doing and are at a regular pet weight in between show/working seasons. Plus anorexics have no muscle mass either. No I actually didn't see your post! Must have skimmed too fast. What do you consider gramebred? Cold Steel has some fighting dogs in their dogs pedigrees, but I'm pretty sure they don't game test. CD dosn't fight their dogs either, but I believe Lady Hawke was purchased from someone who did. So she would be considered gamebred wouldn't she? But if your looking at it that way then, every APBT would be called gamebred because no matter how far back they all have fighting dogs in their pedigree's. And I didn't say i'd be buying a gamebred dog, I said I'd like to find a dog with sctructure like CD pits.
AllAmericanPUP
a properly conditioned APBT is just like Bruce lee.. a conditioned dog is healthier.
odnarb
Let's look at this from another perspective... People tend to excuse breeders of classic style for breeding without health testing. What if all this was being said about a Kegs on Legs giant blue APBT breeder? People who seek out wannabe mastiffs registered as APBTs are scorned for buying dogs from stock that isn't health tested. I'm sure those Beefcake Blues are lovely hugable dogs, just like those sweet little old school dogs. Either way, you support irresponsible breeding. The only reasons not to health test are to hide problems and being a tightwad. Neither of which are good reasons, and both show that the breeder does not have the breed's best interest in mind.
