1. I have tried all of them. The kong kept his attention the longest but he really likes things that he can eat and isn't patient enough to wait for the treats to come out. If I change up the stuff I put in the kong he will eat it once but after that he wont. Also, he will only eat about half of what is stuff in it because I guess he is too lazy to try and get the rest out.
2. you know that is probably the simplest explenation and yet for some reason that didn't even come into mind. I guess the blonde is working overtime. :D I will have to try grabbing it from him once he has reached swallowing point. Hes not food or treat aggressive so it wont be a big deal. I guess when I have enough ends I could find a way to put them together or something.
3. It doesn't seem to be the thing I give him, it seems to be the fact that he can swallow them once he eats most of it.
4. I give him Kongs and I have about three round rubber items that he can chew but he gets tried of these and will stop chewing on them after a few min. When I try to give them to him again at a later date, he does not want them. I usually give him the denta-bone broken in pieces but he just swallows thoses so I stopped and I guess I will have to stop giving him the beefy chews also.
5. The other day Austin was having tummy problems and threw up in his Kennel. Then he threw up on the carpet. Well, I thought that it was nothing when the next day he was fine. That was until two nights ago. For the last two nights Austin has been waking up at about 5:00 with an upset tummy. Usually I hear him gagging and I rush him outside. I believe that the problem is his chews. It seems that when he has eaten about three-fourths of his chews he will then swallow them!! :o This is not good because from what I can tell they then sit in his stomach until he throws them back up. I hate to stop giving him the chews but I also don’t want him to choke on one or continue throwing up. :( Do any of you have a suggestion on what I should substitute for a chew or possible a way that I can prevent him from eating them whole?
6. I have pet insurance for Austin. It is a good backup incase something happens to him and I dont have the money on hand to pay for the vet bills. If you go to www.petcareinsurance.com they have all the rates and coverage. I think I paied $119.00 for the year. If you have any more questions PM me.
7. I was having an issue on when I should fix my pup too and although I researched it I was coming up with different ages yet none really mentioned a reason to wait passed 4 months as a growing issue. My vet said 4 months is perfect if you want to keep a lot of their puppy qualities but you can wait until 6 months to make sure that they mature enough. I spoke with some guys on the forum and they agreed that I should follow what the vet said. I am just mentioning this because as your dog gets older and takes on qualities of an intact dog (like humping) those qualities will most likely stay once fixed. I suggest that instead of going back to the breeder you should get a second or third opinion from Vets in your area. It sounds as if the breeder has already made their mind up on the issue. By the way, Austin, my dog, is a Boxer and will grow much much more after being fixed.
8. That is really gross. This didn't happen to my dog but my boyfriends sisters dog ling. He's a pug. No one could figure out why he was so sick and when they took him to the vet the x-ray showed that he had ate a tampon and then got toxic shock syndrom. I didn't know that animals could get that. Well, he was ok but now they keep the trashcan out of reach.
9. Well, I read almost every post that had to do with potty issues and I have tried every suggestion. Austin seems ok with the crate training method at home but as soon as we get to my mom's he cant help but potty on the floor. At home he can hold it for hours while we are gone and while we are there he will let us know that he has to go potty by going to the door. The thing is at my parents he wont tell us, he just goes. It is strange because that is where we potty trained him. I know that he is still young and needs more training, which we are doing, but it seems that when he gets to my parents all the rules go out the window when it comes to potty time. I mean we will take him on his usual schedule and everything. He will go to the bathroom outside and then go when he gets back inside. I bring the crate with us and have tried to re-crate train him by putting him in the crate when he gets done outside and then after 15 or 20 mins taking him back outside to make sure that she doesn't have to go again. Nothing seems to work, because he will just go once we take him back in. There is another dog in the house so I thought that he might have marking issues but that does not seem to be the case. Whenever we are outside and Dixie, my parent's dog, goes potty, Austin doesn't care. He might sniff the spot but he doesn't even attempt to cover with his own scent. If anyone has any suggestions that might help please let me know. Oh, I usually take him out at least every hour since he is only 12 weeks.
10. thank you. I think that as soon as he turns 4 months I will take him.
11. Well, I have read many things about when is a good time to have your dog fixed and they all differ in age. The vet said no younger than 4 months and some other things were saying to wait at least a year. All the animlas that I have ever owned were already fixed when I got them. So, from experienced boxer owners, or anyone else who can help, how long should I wait before I get Austin (who is a male) fixed?
12. Well, we have a new addition. :D His name is Austin and he is a Boxer. I found out about him at an animal shelter. I was looking for a Pit Bull Terrier when I saw a picture of him on a notice saying that his owners will have to get rid of him because they are moving. He was going to the shelter if they couldnt find someone within a week. Well, I went to see him and fell in love. He's 9 weeks this past fri and can already walk on and off a leash and use the puppy pads. Hes extremely smart and loving. He gets along with everyone and everything. He fell in love with my Tweety Stuffed animal. (he sleeps with it at night) He is so adorable. I would love to put more pictures up but I cant figure out how to. If someone would tell me that would be great.
13. I appreciate all of you replying. :D I am going to try the shelters in Texas first. They will allow me to adopt as long as my landlord tells them that he does not mind. I will wait as long as I need even though I would like one now!! As far as the color, that reason that I would prefer fawn is that I just bought new furniture that is about the same tone as fawn and it wouldn
14. K I dont understand why you seem so upset about my asking for a good breeder. I have already check with the rescuses in Texas and they have very few APBT. Not to mention most of the rescues I have spoken with will not let someone who is renting a duplex adopt. They say that they are worried that when it is time to move you will not be able to take the animal with you especially this breed because of its misconceptions. Thank you LC for that information. I will look into those breeders. If anyone knows of a rescue in Texas that I might have over looked that will let someone renting adopt a APBT please let me know. I would much rather rescue a APBT.
15. I am looking for an APBT puppy and I dont want to support bad breeders. I am looking to spend anywhere up to $600. I would prefer a Fawn so that the hair wont show up on everything and I also prefer a longer legged APBT not a stubby one. I live in Texas and I am willing to travel pretty far.
16. I have just read all the posts to this chat and I dont think that really anyone has been defensive. It seems to me that no matter what breed of dog you are talking about owners of that breed think that their dog is the best. That is wonderful because that mean that they really love there dog but people should be more open minded when it comes to other breeds or subbreed. Such as the AmerStaff. I agree that sometimes they are squished in a sense, but not all AMerStaff are like that. Its the same with APBT. If you breed wrong you can end-up with a Squishy looking dog. By the way, Pheasant718 I really like the way your dog looks. I prefer a longer legged dog. I dont really like the stumpy APBT.
17. thank you for responding. I should get him in about 2-3 months. I am so excited. The first thing I am going to do is post pics. Everything that I have seen on the internet have said the same thing. That is that very dog is different depending on size, ect.
18. I am a new comer to owning a dog. :D I am researching for my first AmStaff Pit. I understand that they are less animal aggressive but should not be fully trusted around other animals, especially really dominant or small animals. I have been researching this breed for about a year and a half and the thing that sticks out the most (besides being animal aggressive) is that apbt are the most loyal animals and will do anything to please their owner or sometimes any person. I have a close friend that owns two abpt and they are the sweetest things. Dosha is a male about 2 years old and every time I enter the room he goes crazy. I was the first person to feed him as a pup. I have learned a lot from him and Sensy (the other abpt). Dosha will let you know if he is not getting enough attention or does not like how loud everyone is being. Anyways, sorry for rambling, my question was how much does a abpt eat in a week, that is in lbs. I want to fully prepare myself.

I think that it is very important to know about a breed before getting it but in the case of PBL I think that she is doing a great job and will continue raising a great dog if she continues to educate herself. I know that once I get my AmStaff I am not going to stop educating myself. Anyways, sorry for rambling, my question was how much does a abpt eat in a week, that is in lbs.
