1.
Do you guys think its a good idea to carry pepper spray? Its been reccomended to me a couple of times to deal with these types of situations.
Yes, to spray in the irresponsible dog owners eyes. :evilbat: That's too bad what happen. I'm really glad Blitz was cool with it, incidents like that can really screw up a dog for life.
 2. I have heard that if you have a sign or sticker in the window of your car that says "K9 Stay Clear" or something like that then your ass is covered if someone gets bit when they stick their hand in the window or I guess tries to hijack your car.
 3. When your dog breaks their tooth and the root is exposed it is an emergency. If you get your dog in quick enough the tooth can be saved they use to say within 24 hrs but they are a little more advanced now. Magic had two broken teeth from breaking a Nylabone in half. She had Vital Pulpotomies done on them. It was a pretty costly procedure almost $1000 Canadian. Someone told me root canals are twice as much. I never give Magic anything I wouldn’t hit over my knee anymore except for the real uncooked bone I gave her the other day that she broke another tooth on, stupid me :madgo:, but the root is not exposed on this one. Here is a really good link that explains everything. http://www.dogbeachdentistry.com/brokentth.html
 4. You would have to talk to a "Pest Professional" if that's what they're called and find out how much poision the dog would have to ingest and how long it would take to kill the dog. Your shop doesn't use rat poision? I have a friend who uses pest control and the guy gave them the whole lesson on protecting her dogs and cats and exactly how much they would have to ingest and even gave the name of the antidote to get from the vet. There are so many plants, household cleaners and other household items like the one everyone knows; antifreeze, that is poisionous to dogs. Even the swiffer wet jet is poisionous to dogs! Maybe she overdosed him on grapes the night before? ....or he chewed on the geraniums? I seriously doubt you had anything to do with it, I wouldn't worry about it too much.
 5. Too bad I'm not a little closer. :( I would go and so would some girls from work probably, one has 2 Pit Bulls.
 6. I wrote something quick that I hope will help. To whom it may concern: I am writing this letter in the hopes that your position on the banning of Pit Bull Terriers in London will be changed. As an Animal Care worker in Ontario I do not agree with Breed Specific Legislation. I work with Pit Bulls as wells as hundreds of other different dog breeds on a daily basis and I can think of no reason to ban any one breed over another. It all comes down to responsible dog ownership and that is what you should be concentrating your resources on. If you would like some suggestions and information for educating the public on preventing dog bites and responsible dog ownership then please feel free to email me at: [email protected] Thank you for taking the time to read this. Kind Regards Leslie Patterson
 7.
They are a very nice family but they are too ignorant about dogs.
There you said it. That's my thoughts to make them short. I would just add that because of the CHD they probably shouldn't put the dog on it's back, nor should anyone else because it seems to hurt the dog and the dog bites.
I had been told that she was food and rawhide and dog aggressive, which, as a shelter volunteer, make me think of what should really be done about this dog.
What?
 8. Gorgeous dogs! I will be rescue hunting next year and I'm looking for either a Mal or another GSD. Thanks for the link I will keep it handy.
 9.
so, what can you gays tell me about your own experiences with neutering? (well, not your own, but your dog's, to be exact  ;))
Well I had Magic spayed shortly after we go her (from the pound on her last day before they were to put her to sleep). Magic's mother's owner was a very irresponsible dog owner (who should never ever own a dog) and allowed her to have a litter(s?) not giving a single care to what happened to the pups let alone giving a life time commitment to the pups like a responsible dog breeder/owner would do. I was so nervous about leaving my baby for her spay surgery and it was an over night one. I got her back the next day and she was her same self like nothing had ever happened to her but at least now she can't make babies that will end up in the shelters to die. :(
 10. When I got Magic she was one years old and dog aggressive and not trained and I started her out with a Halti, actually I started her out on a harness but for obvious reasons that did not work! To bad because how can a harness be harmful? Almost every time I took her out for a walk she would get out of her Halti. I found out later that the Gentle Leader, similar to the Halti, was more difficult for a dog to get out of. So next it was the GL. The GL was okay but we were not moving forward in anyway with her OB or her aggression towards other dogs. She also hated it and would shut down, would not want to go anywhere and just try to paw it off. It made her very frustrated and I feel it escalated her dog aggression. Took awhile but I decided to use a Prong collar. After a couple walks and a couple pops on the pinch collar she was cured for pulling on the leash. I could walk her with lots of slack finally!..only took a year. That was really hard though going to the prong collar, I decided from the beginning that a couple good corrections are better then a thousand nagging ones. I continue to use the prong just because she goes wild when we seen another dog and she needs a correction to behave civilized in public. It does its job with sending her a clear message that her aggressive behavior is not acceptable. Overall I am happy with my decision to use it, I couldn’t use anything else so I have to be. She seems to love her prong collar because she goes crazy when I pull it out, dancing around like a monkey and wagging her tail all excited. :D
 11.
I have been working with the dogs using the NILIF method. I swear the dogs are getting aggravated with me. Things that I used to let them do I am now not allowing unless they do what I want 1st.
Good! Sounds like you're doing it right especially if the dogs are getting aggravated! LOL You have to be so tough with them or they walk all over you, I know, I have a GSD, she's such a feisty little bitch who tests me till my wits end. Why did the spay cost so much? I go to a vet in the very posh part of town and everyone says I got totally ripped on Magic’s spay it was about $375 Canadian and she was one years old and full-grown. Too bad about her eye, that is called “Collie Eye” isn’t it? A lot of Collies and Shelties get it. I would assume it would be painful. Poor girl. Good luck with Pattie.
 12.
actually green beans barely contain much of anything except a bit of fiber and a lot of sodium. :) the reason they are used for mixing into kibble for weight loss is that they make a great filler that barely adds any calories to the daily ration and most dogs like eating them.
Oh figures LOL. I remember a GR breeder telling me that years ago before I knew anything about nutrition and I was even thinking as I was posting it, "No, there is no way plain old green beans could have loads of vit. and nutrients in them." :-?
 13. My mother has allergies and is asthmatic, they have a Sheltie as well and she believes that you get immune to your own dog. Her allergies still act up though if she's in a small area like in the car with him or if he's on the bed. He's actually my dads dog, my mother likes the dog but doesn't cuddle with him or take kisses or anything, just the occasional pet so that might help her allergies, that would suck though! I love to cuddle with my dog and bury my face in her fur. My friend’s husband is extremely allergic to cats and dogs and they have two of each. He has to take a pill everyday and rotate between different allergy pills because after a while the effectiveness wears off.
 14. Apparently can green beans are the best and have all the vitamins and nutrients your dog needs and helps them lose weight. You have to rinse them well first though because of all the sodium in the water they’re packed in.
 15. How about soaking her kibble in warm water before you serve it?
 16. To us that is certainly abuse but I'm pretty sure there is nothing you can really do about it if the owner provides food and water to the dog. (I think thats how the law goes in my neck of the woods anyway.) Maybe you or someone you know could buy the poor soul and adopt him out to a loving family that will spoil him like you're suppose to and try to make up for that rough start.
 17.
I am STILL the only Aussie owner here?? :( lol come on people fess up that you have an aussie.. :D
I did a breed selector quiz and it said the Aussie Shep. is 100% the dog for me. You might have someone else to talk to here because I'll be in the market for a second dog soon. I'm thinking either another GSD or a Dutch Shep, Malinois, Lab, Standard Poodle or Aussie Shepherd.
 18. I think when they go that crazy naming off misc. breeds they should just say No Dogs all together. God!
 19. We have an Azores staying at our kennel. I never heard of one before. He's brindle with a stubby tail and round ears like a Hyena and he's so cute, only 9 months old.
 20. The way I dealt with play bitting was I would give Magic a rope toy or something to bite on instead of me. She was very mouthy and I would say "NO" and give her something she was allowed to bite up. I think if I tried bite inhibitation on Magic (I think thats like yelping when they bite you? I have to read up on that again) she would laugh in my face.
 21. It is very sad but the fact is they will keep selling those puppy mill dogs if people keep buying them. Arrrg the financing really pisses me off too.
 22.

Is it the same person that posted on the Leerburg BB yesterday, she's going to foster a hound/Dobie X. She sounds so clueless.
Leerburg BB? You mean "Leerburg" as in the guy "Ed Frawley"?? I certainly hope she hasn't gone to him for help! :o :x I think shocks and prongs should only be used as a last resort, and only on certain dogs. Some dogs do not respong well at ALL to physical punishment such as with shock collars. On others it does work well, but I say last resort since dogs who have been trained with shock collars tend to disobey commands when they don't have the collar on. BTW, what is clicker training? I have heard it mentioned a lot, but I don't know what it is  ~Seij
Yes the Ed Frawley guy. I don't like shock collars (not on my dog at least - if you know how to use one and use it on your dog I have no problem with that). If you use a shock collar properly though the dog doesn't get the correlation between the collar and the shocks. You keep a dummy collar on so the dog doesn't know its the collar that's giving them the shock so no they don't disobey commands when the collar isn't on.
 23. Here is a website about Hydrotherapy: http://www.k9hydrotherapy.co.uk/ I don't know where you live but I've seen ads for it in dog papers and magazines in my area (Toronto). Ryan's mother said her gout was very, very painful! I'm not sure if she is on medication for it or if just coming off the calcium supp. and atkins diet did the trick but I'll ask her about it. I'm not sure about the bones and amount of calcium. Maybe TDG would know? :)
 24.
Note: Not my Springer, image found from Yahoo search. My pics wouldnt do the breed justice
LOL you're funny! I see the pic of your Springer in your signature and Mocha was so beautiful.
 25.

Also, she has put the prong and shock collar on herself before ever using either one on her dog to make sure it would not hurt her
I don't know the person you guys are talking about, but she's not telling the truth if she says a shock collar does not hurt. My friend had one for his dog and I tested it on myself on the lowest setting. It hurt like h***! I can't imagine what it would be like on the highest setting.
Prongs hurt too (though it's the only way to get Magic to mind when she gets in her point of no return aggressive mode towards another dog) I have to give her a strong pop and she usually yelps. I can't think of anything else that makes her yelp, she is basically pain resistant - so it must really freakin' hurt. No doubt about it that is negative guys! Technically if you use a prong collar correctly you only have to use it a couple of times... but it is not too positive. IMO
