1. The vet wrap and sock sounds like a good idea. Once I bandaged Magic's foot and used a sock and hockey tape to keep it protected because I didn't have vetwrap. Depending on the cut you could try Liquid Bandaid made by the Bandaid company. It's like a liquid filler that protects from water and dirt.
2. Check with your vet. There is a product called "Tough Paw" it's for hunting dogs to protect their feet. I think if the cut is not too deep it will heal in time. Is it bleeding? Magic has a lot of cracks and cuts in her pads but they are not deep or bleeding, I don't know where she gets them but they don't bother her.
3. Dogs are pretty habitual and when you change routine I think it screws them up a bit. Some times we get dogs at the kennel that because of the change from home to kennel don’t eat, conversely the dogs that don’t eat at home eat well at the kennel for some reason. Anyhow I wouldn’t worry too much, dogs can go for a few days without eating unlike us humans because in the wild they don’t eat everyday, only when they’re lucky. Their bodies are built for it. Maybe if you try to give them some green tripe mixed in with their kibble they'll eat, Magic can never resist it!
4. Awwww happy birthday Chelsea girl! Enjoy your terrible two's!
5.
we gotta stop treating them like people....
I wan't to know where you get your hair done. I never get a shot of perfum and a bandana before I leave, that would be a nice gesture tho.
6. Dogs know dog people! I guess they get the same feeling they get from other dog people as they get from their owners that admire them so much and love them. I never trust people that don’t like dogs or my dog and it has always works as a rule. Even some people that don’t like dogs but like Magic for some reason I connect with and get along with.
7. Hope they're okay. Kisses for them and good luck. :)
8. I tried the GL because I wanted a really positive training tool. I tried for weeks to make it work but Magic would shut down with it on in protest. I use a Prong and find I have better control althought I wish I had a more positive way to deal with her and her dog aggression. I did find one "good" use, if you could call it that, for the GL because it was so not going to work out. When she hears other dogs barking outside and she goes mental I say "Want your Haltie?" (because she has a Haltie too) and she either stops going nuts and lays down immediately and is quiet or I put her GL on and she sulks and is quiet and goes laydown until I take it off.
9. Okay here are the criteria I would have if I were looking for a place to board my baby. I work at a boarding kennel and I have been to see a lot so I have a good idea what I personally would look for. - Do they allow you to drop by anytime during the hours that they are open to see the kennel where your dog would be staying? Not during certain hours i.e. 9-10am and 4-5pm so that they have time to clean up for visitors. If my dog is staying there then it should be clean all the time. (A little bit of a smell is okay because we are talking about dogs here.) Oh and they should let you see the indoor area and outdoor area – a lot of places only allow you to peek through a little window or something like that. (what are they trying to hide?) - It must have a private indoor area with an attached private outdoor area. Not shared runs! They are also good because on nice days they can leave the doors open and the dog can go in his kennel and out to his outdoor run as he chooses during the day. Covered outdoor runs are better because if it rains or snows the dog can still go outside and stay dry. - It should be bright and dry, a lot of them are like dungeons, so dark and wet. Eek. - They should ask for up to date vaccine records for your dogs’ protection and others. They should ask for Bordatella(kennel cough – and the nasal vacc. needs to be administer 3-5 days before otherwise it is the fresh virus that they can spread if they touch noses with another dog) and the normal rabies and annual booster. - I would like one-on-one activities because (well my dog is dog aggressive). I don’t think it is a good idea to mix dogs that you don’t know together anyway especially since they are away from home in a strange place and might fell threaten for whatever reasons and they might fight. Yes that includes the ones that “have never attacked another dog before.” It happens. There is a groomer in my area that “doesn’t believe in crating dogs” and a dog die after being attacked by another dog in their shop that yup “never attacked another dog before... I don’t understand…blah, blah, blah.” A lot of kennels just open the door and allow all the dogs to fun free together while they clean in feed etc. - Allow you to bring your own food, dog bed, blankets and toys. Those are just a few important things to me, I didn’t get into details like climate control and stuff. There are good kennels out there you just have to look and do your research. It’s good if you get referrals too. I always take my dog to work because she L-O-V-E-S IT! They do have a really good time when they are clean, safe and feel comfortable in a nice kennel with good staff.
10. Nevermind what I said about the cotton making the dog aggressive it was the fact that reaching into the crate to take them out might make them aggressive, I knew that tho becuase I work at at kennel. For some reason I though she ment it was because of the cotton. Cassie we don't use cotton balls we use natural cotton and we don't forget to take it out. It's like a process like clipping nails, we don't forget to clip the dogs nails. I will ask about what your saying, we don't put cotton in the ears at work but this is the way we are taught at school. I know everyone does everything differently. I haven't had a dog with an ear infection yet but maybe the instructor tells us not to use cotton if they have one??? I don't know I'm new, I'm just learning. My instructor is Nancy Bryson, your groomer probably knows her because she is a past President of the Ontario Dog Grooming Association and is an industry and public demonstrator and speaker. Nancy has been grooming for 28 years. She is a 12-time grooming competition winner and was voted ODGA's "Groomer of the Year" in 2000 and 2002. I think she's a good groomer she keeps up on her education and is always learning new techniques and ways of doing things that are healthier for the dog and the groomer.
11. Whether it is good or not depends on the boarding kennel. Tell us about the places your are thinking of boarding at. What are the facilities like etc…
12. So you work at a shelter? Ahhh I so could not do that. You must be so stong. I admire you! I try to do as much as I can fundraising wise and transport but anything more would really break my heart.
13. Do you think he will get a home easy? I'll be looking for a rescue GSD in as early as Nov. Edit Ooops you said he'd get adopted easy. I hope so.
14. OMG   He's yours, take him! At least your hubby should met him! Can you foster him?
15. At school when we bathe dogs we put cotton in their ears we usually have lunch after and put our dogs in crates for a break. Our intructor said to remeber to take out the cotton from the ears because the dog may attack you when you go to take them out. I haven't asked yet exactly why but if that's true then I guess yes your dog would be less fearful or skittish if her ears aren't plugged.
16. sorry Court. Why not just get rabies then? I wouldn't get anything but rabies if I didn't take Magic to work (the kennel) all the time and she wasn't around other dogs all the time.
17. You could try the better quality food but sometimes they do it no matter what as babies and they grow out of it. I wouldn't trust any additives that prevent them from eating poop, you could research it though to make sure they're safe. I think your best bet is to just pick up the poop asap.
18. Awww poor thing  Get well soon Tabatha baby.
