I was buying my stack of chicken at the Colonial Village Meat Market and the cashier asks "Are you going fishing?"  They always ask that  And I said "no, they are for my dogs" ....she says "wow, you have to cook all that" ...and I said "no, they eat it raw" .....EWWWWWW, etc. The conversation went on and she asked about my dogs and I said I had a chocolate and a black mix but was on a waiting list for a yellow pup, and how I wanted it for my birthday present and the GUY STANDING NEXT TO ME SAYS "MY BROTHER'S LAB JUST HAD 13 YELLOW PUPPIES!" I was like what? :o Well, we exchanged numbers and the brother is going to call me today!! They are in upstate PA, I have a lot of questions for him, but am very interested!!!!

The breeder who I am on the list for still has not answered one very important question: HOW MUCH ARE YOUR PUPPIES? I have asked they twice, and they want a $200.00 deposit, but I am not giving them a penny until they tell me how much they are. I filled out the paper work and have sent it to them, but with no money........

Do you think this is karma (I know, we have been using that word a lot lately)??????

It sure seems like fate stepping in! Just think of the series of events that led each of you to the butcher's counter in that store at the same time!

Good Luck! Hope it all turns out, Daisymom!

you should check this second guy out and at least get some information :) that is very ineresting timing and i would be VERY suspicious of the first breeders if they won't tell you how much their dogs are, they should not have anything to hide.

If you talk to this guy's brother, be sure to meet the pups' parents and see if they have any health probs.

I agree with the others...it's very weird that they haven't told you how much the puppies are.

What a weird coincidence! As long as you haven't given your deposit to the breeder, you should go look at the litter. If you like 'em, adopt one! Or two...

I am not too wild about the peds at the other place, not very CH's or field masters. OFA certification is sporadic and it seems that this particular kennel is not doing it, they just have them in their lines. I also noticed that they did not have a page that told you who they are, why they breed, what their goals are or even a link to the mother club for Lab's. I think they have way toooo many breeding bitches/dogs, and they don't seem to be working there own dogs right now. Now that you say they won't give you a price I would be suspicious of them.

Make sure you grill them and LOOK at the pedigree's, don't forget to ask them WHY they bred and how they plan on placing the pups.
Please ask if the dogs have been OFA'd. Since Labs are prone to hip dysplasia you want to try to get the healthiest puppy you can.
I would take this one step further and say don't just ask, make sure they have the certificates and that they will give you copies.

Just heard from the breeder:
Sure, our blacks and yellows are $1,000
This includes a crate, all shots up to 7 weeks, having the dew claws removed, a two hour presentation upon pickup, complete vaccination history and several page booklet on training and socialization, two year hip guarantee, installation of a tracking micro chip implanted in the pup, and all the follow up answers to any of you questions in the future.
We stand by our pups.

Did not hear from the brother at all!!! After our wild adventure yesterday at the puppy mill, I really want to rescue on of those pups now...... Now, I don't know what to do

He called!!!!!!!!!!!! He is a one time breeder, mom and dad both have hip certs, and the mom is a wonderful dog!!! We are going up on Sunday to check them out. 3 hours away, but he is meeting us half way in the Poconos. I think this is the better choice. The dogs from the mill are not socialized and may have poor health.

I hope this works out!!! If it does, we will have a new pup on Sunday, and I will make a large donation to the Humane Society

You really need to see the living conditions the pups are born in, if at all possible please so the whole way and see where he lives.

And most reputable breeders guarantee hips for the life of the dog.

It's easy to feel sorry for the puppies at the puppy-mill. And you tell yourself that those puppies need homes too and that they need to be saved from those horrible conditions.

As dog lovers none of us should adopt puppies from puppy-mills though. We'd only be supporting the existance of these puppy mills! As long as they're selling puppies, they'll always be around.

Just my opinion...

i wish you lots of wisdom in this, i've had three labs all with very serious health problems, i love them but i'd never have another one, it is to hearbreaking for me. they all had really bad hip problems and a myriad of other health problems. i would really really really recommend going all the way and seeing them in their environment and checking out the parents very very carefully. GOOD LUCK :)
