1.
Ugh I love Tallie so much. She wont be put down though, even if it were for the best, it just wont happen. As long as shes at Straydog she and others will be safe, as long as they dont make any mistakes with handling her. And I think some of the volunteers said something so she doesnt come to Adoption Day anymore... which sucks for me but I guess its for the best. If it werent for my cat, I do think I would adopt her though. I think Tallie can change. Now had she actually drawn blood, or heck even left a scratch then my choice might be different but she didnt.
If she were any other breed I would totally agree with you, but with pit bulls even that is unacceptable. A well bred pit wouldn't even think of biting when going after another dog. Can she ever be adopted out? She may have to live her life out at Straydog, taking up a kennel place that could go to many dogs in her lifetime. Thats the sad part.
2. Another one. :( COAL TOWNSHIP — A 1-year-old female pit bull was shot in the face with a bow and arrow Saturday night in the 1500 block of Mohawk Street and had to be euthanized a few hours later. Police are trying to determine if the man who allegedly shot the dog acted in self-defense or, as the dog’s owners claim, committed a malicious act on an innocent animal. Gloria Socko, Dina DiLorenzo and her five children, who live at 1511 Mohawk St., said John Cox, of 1558 Tioga St., used a bow and razor arrow to shoot their dog, Madison, shortly before 9 p.m. at the rear of Cox’s residence, approximately 40 yards up the alley from their home. While Socko and DiLorenzo want Cox arrested for cruelty to animals and recklessly endangering other people, since he allegedly shot the dog in the presence of five children. Cox contendsthe 40-pound pit bull attacked him and his live-in fianc
3. Don't take this the wrong way, but I would never chance it with a dog like Tallie. Unfortunately it sounds like she needs to be put down for her own good :( I love the first pair, they're gorgeous. I don't think you'd be betraying anyone by adopting from another organization, you're still rescuing and they should appreciate that.
4. If this isn't her it sure is someone LIKE her! They're multiplying! AHHHH! SHE also breeds goldens. I doubt anyone can come after you because you say, "my dogs have show titles, tracking titles, agility titles" or whatever. I didn't ask for your name or your address. :o You breed for money, you're no better then a BYB. Its not my OPINION its the ONLY answer a responsible breeder would ever give.
5. 2-4 years is the normal age for dogs to "turn on'. Although I'm sure it can spring up at any time from puppyhood to 10 years. All it takes is the right dog to trigger those instincts. Of course many pits never turn on. If she hasn't shown any sign of dog aggression by now, chances are she won't but of course (not that I think you will) never ever leave her unsupervised.
6. I asked for your dogs titles. If it were me, I would be proud and very willing to share them. I'm going to assume they don't have titles then. Feel free to correct me, I apologize if I'm wrong. Responsible breeders only have ONE answer when asked why they breed. To better the breed. That should have been your answer, instead of getting defensive. I can only imagine why you're getting so defensive.
7. We're very supportive of good breeders, I hope you haven't heard anything else. I highly respect breeders that breed to better the breed they love. Why don't you share a couple of your dogs titles with us? They do have titles right?
8.
Nichole Richie and Hilary Duff have poms...but I don't know of anyone else.
Don't start me on this! I was forced to watch of of her stupid MTV video diaries (I should warn you, I loathe her) and she and her sister had their dogs and were letting them attack each other. The poor thing was getting bitten and then stupid Hilary was like "Okay, lets stop that. They're not pit bulls."
9. I saw an episode of Good Dog (Stanley Coran is awesome) about desensitising dogs to thunderstorms. What they did for this dog (a standard poodle) was start by playing a tape of a storm VERY low and just toally relax and ignore the dog (who was crated). If you pay attention to the dog while he's freaking out it just reassures his fears that there's something to be afraid of. Maybe play the tape once a day for about a week or until the dog stops responding. Then turn it up a bit more, and more until its full blast, like a true storm would be, without the dog responding. The key is not to give the dog ANY attention or coddling if he freaks out. Eventually he'll see that his owner isn't making a big deal out of it so its not a big deal.
10. I honestly think its stupid to fault non cropped dogs. Its all for looks anyway, whats the big deal in letting uncropped dogs show?
11.

Sad, but a little misleading though. Pups don’t stay long in Animal shelters, in my area anyway. They usually get adopted for 2-4 x the normal adoption fees after a fierce bidding war. I know several people that after being out bided several times, they gave up on finding a pup at the shelter and came to me to buy a pure bred one with AKC reg for less then the final price they got up to at the shelter. With adults however, that is a different story.
i find that rather sickening that a shelter would let a puppy go to the highest bidder. yes puppies do get adopted faster than adults but the fact is is that many many more puppies are still dying. here at my shelter i see puppies all the time that dont get adopted and are euthanized
I agree, thats sick for your shelter to do. I'm glad my shelter is no-kill (except extremely sick/aggressive animals) but I still see puppies there, especially breeds like pits and rottweilers, even the puppies nobody wants. You breed Norma? What breed, and why?
12. If you have an unfixed cat you could be adding to the population problem (not that you are, I understand your cat can't breed) and they don't want someone to have one of their dogs just to have litters of another species. No, you're not the only person. But the majority didn't know any better and you did. There's nothing wrong with buying from a reputable breeder, but you said yourself you didn't want to pay for a healthy well-bred dog. Nova Scotia doberman and min pin rescue http://www.minpinrescuens.com/ Also many breed rescues are willing to transport from other places for you. And sorry, I refuse to believe a reputable breeder would charge $1500 for a pet quality puppy. Dobe's arn't exactly a rare breed.
13.
I know this a an old post but I wanted to share my thoughts. I agree with most of you that a lot of people breed irresponsibly when there are lot's of homless dogs. But I got my last 2 dobermans form a so called irresponsible breeder and I love them, I never could have afforded a registered doberman (they go for 1,500 around here), and they are not often seen in shelters and the ones that are tend to have issues. I have nothing against shelters but the ones around here make it almost impossible to get a dog. I've owned dogs my whole life and when my Great Pyrenese died from Epilepsy, I decided to get a dog from the SPCA and they would not give him to us, we passed the written test but we had a dog who was not spayed (she had been injured when she was a pup and was unable to have puppies, or even come into heat, the vet told us not to even bother spaying her because she was unable to breed) Even with a call from our vet they still would not let us have him, they told us even if we had a cat who was un spayed or un neutered we could not get an animal from them. Needless to say I have never gone back. I know they mean well but how can you support them and get animals from them if they won't let you have one without spaying and neutering all your other animals. I suppose they wanted me to spay and neuter my horses and birds as well. I by no means support irresponsible breeding, I just don't agree with the SPCA around here. Just my 2 cents :)
It does seem kind of silly since the vet called, but I agree with not adopting a dog to any house with another unfixed animal (depending on the species). No, they would not expect you to fix your birds/horses. And yes, by buying from an irresponsible breeder you support it unfortunately. The shelter here has two gorgeous dobes right now, a red and a black. Also 90% of dogs are in shelters through no fault of their own, so not all shelter dobes will have issues. Theres also many doberman rescues, even if your shelter dosn't have any, dobe rescues are packed with them.
14. Bring him in and tell them to deal with it. If you have to, bring him in on a leash. Its not fair for him to be outside 24/7. Dogs are pack animals and you can't spend all day/night out there with him. I doubt he's that much bigger then Sassy.
15. The second link is a link to the same thread as the above, and if the second website id down how can we tell? I don't think its up to us, you should visit both and see which you like better. You can't tell from a website what the staff/vet is like.
16. I've yet to have to pull a tick off of the dogs, guess I'm lucky. Just the thought makes me shudder.
17.
Oddly enough, they are about 40 minutes away from me. So Jer and I were invited to stop on by anytime we wanted to. She seems very nice. She told us to come on over and play with everyone since we lived so close to her. Might just do that!!
Take pics! I still would never buy one, but those are beautiful dogs. Like giant border collies.
18. Chaos does it too, especally when she's giving me kisses. Its like she's trying to hold me down so she can tell me she loves me.
19. I'm sorry you have to go through this, trust me I know what its like. I bawled like a baby as well when the ban passed here, for all the innocent dogs that will be murdered. :(
20.
From the main website
ALL PUPPIES ARE AVAILABLE FOR APPROVED NON BREEDING PET OR PERFORMANCE HOMES FOR $900.00 U.S.
 They are in it for money. Panda Shepherds, HA, People will do anything for money. Poor dogs I wonder if the even end up in good homes. I love it when there is a "new breed" to look at, NOT.
And I don't see anything wrong with listing the amount the puppies are. They say approved non breeding home, now I can't say what they'll approve and won't but at least they do say it. Also, non breeding, meaning they don't want the dogs to go to home where they'll be bred over and over.
21.
If the dogs parentage is true, their pedigrees are fairly impressive- I was thinking that 900$ was a good price- I was thinking they were going to do the 2500 to 3000$ deal!
Actually pumpkins right. I was taking another look at the site, they don't really seem like BYB's. They have nice ped's, hips are done, not overbreeding, the only thing I can find fault in is they're not breeding a colour thats in the standard. If they were "normal" colour shepherds they would go from $900-3000 with pedigree's like those.
22. They're beautiful, but definately mixed with BC or ACD. And those idiots are just trying to make all the money they can off it.
23.
yes you are correct. and the wholesale slaughter of wolves has p*** me off for decades, which is why I STILL fight it.... nature provided for predators and prey. we screwed the offset..and now we have deer getting hit routinely by cars, causing mass destruction and human and deer deaths... I was coming home from a shooting range (yes,I target shoot) and a deer had been hit by a car...and was not only stopping traffic, but looking miserably in pain and trying to get up. couldnt. both front legs were broken by the impact. I called AC. they couldnt have anyone there for at least an hour. I told them I had a gun, could I put this poor creature out of its misery? they asked the cop on the scene. he said it was hopeless, and the poor creature was in terrible pain. they asked for the number on my FOID card. I gave it to them. they ran the check, and said "put him down. we will pick him up later" so I did. a clean shot right between the eyes. he died instantly. he would not have survived, and I couldnt leave him there in pain... I took a lot of grief for that....but it was the humane thing to do...
Thats a noble thing you did courtnek, I couldn't have done it myself. But obviously there was no other choice and the poor thing had no chance. At least it didn't have to die slowly.
24. I guess I'm another one of those hard asses. It depends on the situation and breed. If I had a pit bull that bit me, the dog would be put down, no matter how hard it was. Being a breed bred never to bite, a bite is unacceptable. Now you have to ask, whats the situation? In some cases I'll excuse a bite, an old dog being prodded by an unsupervised child, I blame the parents. A dog who thinks its alpha? I may look past it, depending on the severity of the bite. An alpha correcting a 'subordinate', will probably not draw blood. In that case the dog needs some serious demoting. But ANY dog that attacks unprovoked, or any dog that draws blood, I will never tolerate. I'm sorry but a biting dog has no place in my home. But even if the dog was giving out signals to back off, and the human ignored or missed them, why was the dog giving these signals? My dogs may not like me taking their bones away, but if I want too you I will.
