What do you think of this breeder?
Lucky Chaos replied to Lucky Chaos's topic in Everything about dogs
I'll take Case, and you take my three. Sound good? 170 lbs of dogs. Should be easy to hold onto. Oh, and just for the fun of it I'll yell, "Squirrel!" and point. That always gets em running. -

Even if your opinion does differ from mine, thanks for adding it CC. I understand where you're coming from. Once I have my dream pup I'll most likely go back to adoption, theres nothing like saving a life for sure. -

Obviously I wouldn't trust an aggressive dog off leash doing agility. Thats one reason why I haven't really done it with my mix, the chance she'd take off after another dog is too great. Rescues can do weight pull, but unfortunately can't be shown which is something I'd really like to do as well. I'm not against "froo froo" show dogs per se, I just don't like the look of most UKC dogs. -

So, what would you suggest? I'm seriously asking, not trying to be smart. A rescue dog could be dog aggressive, which is what I originally intended. An AmStaff could be very dog aggressive as well. (I believe some of Hartagold's dogs are dog aggressive.) Granted, nothing like a gambred but its entirely possible. -
Toronto boy injured in attack by Rottweiler An eight-year-old Toronto-area boy is recovering after having part of his ear torn off by a 120-pound Rottweiler-Labrador cross. The attack has some parents calling for an expansion to the province's pit bull ban. The attack occurred Monday evening when a group of five or six kids in Woodbridge found the dog running free in the neighbourhood. They brought it into the backyard and called animal control officers to come pick him up. As they waited, they played. One of the children threw a ball and the eight-year-old victim made an attempt to catch it. As he did, he was bitten on the leg by the dog and forced to the ground. The victim attempted to get away when the dog then bit him on the ear. He was finally released from the dog's grasp and he ran into his home. The dog is now with animal control in Aurora. He is under quarantine and being tested for rabies. The boy had his ear and ankle stitched up and he's expected to be fine. York Regional Police say they want to talk to the owner of the dog involved in the attack and are asking the public to help find the owner. The attack has some parents in the neighbourhood calling for an expansion to the province's pit bull ban. The Ontario government passed legislation banning new pit bulls in Ontario during a rare winter session early this month. Under the law, pit bulls that are already here must be neutered. It also requires that the dogs are muzzled and leashed in public. The law also sets hefty fines and jail terms for owners of dangerous dogs. ____________________________________________ Now where were the parents while this kid was playing with a strange dog? And notice, they put "Rottweiler" in the headline, not Labrador or crossbreed. Parents want an extension on the ban? I bet they're not calling for Labradors to be banned!

My dogs are champion squirrel hunters. Of course they never catch one. I don't hunt but I have friends whodo and trained their lab/redbone coonhound mix to hunt with them and retrieve. Personally I think hunting is a lot less crueller then slaughterhouses, at least the wild animal got to live a free life instead of in a tiny pen. When people hunt for sport or just to hang up the skin or antlers, then I'm 100% against it.
Well, the reason i ask is that you are looking at some extreme dogs. Very dog aggressive, full of drive. The type of dog a long experienced pit bull owner would consider. And the reason i ask about dogsports, are you going to do agility? Or obedience? i wouldn't suggest obedience, as i, just personally, could NEVER trust a gamebred dog in a 5 minute out of sight downstay. i have heard that gamebred dogs can be great at sports, but it's a HUGE commitment. As they can be very dog aggressive. Have you trained into the higher levels of the sports you are interested in? i don't mean to be a downer, i just think you need to really sit and think about the type of dog you will be bringing home. They are wonderful, human friendly, smart, cuddly, etc.....but also full of prey drive, high activity and highly dog aggressive. The type of dog that's a real huge handful and can be extremely difficult to control in an offleash situation.
My first dog was a working bred GSD. This dog had drive up the wall. He was also dog aggressive, though obviously nothing like an APBT would be. Since then the only dogs I've actually wanted to work with were working drivey dogs. Mu current three dogs are rescues, and none really have the proper drive to get into the sports I'd like. Except perhaps my mix and agility. Two of the dogs from CD pits arn't dog aggressive. Of course the pup always could be, and I knew that when I started getting into the breed. Part of an email from CD: The father of the 2 girls was VERY dog aggressive. No problems with humans but a true APBT at heart. Hawke will watch her space, doesn't go looking for trouble but will fire on other dogs. The girls don't show much if any dog aggresion at all. I can be in a CH class at the shows, the last one was 24 dogs most firing off and my girls just look at them, curious but not afraid. They get along with each other, all 3 are loose together unless we are at work then 2 are crated and one is loose.Best way to describe my girls is "giddy" we call Tessa "Wagatha Wigglebottom" she is always in perpetual motion LOL! After owing 2 dog aggressive males, I prefer to have them a bit easier to handle. Grizz was 65 pounds and a handful and a half. The girls are all 38-40 pounds. -

Not a pure bred no, but Chaos is a pit mix we believe. And yes I am, may I ask why? -

The only AmStaffs I'm really fond of are Hartagold dogs. They're still a bit big for me. Same with Matrix APBT's but they both have awesome looking dogs. Just big and a little thick. -
I'm also not a big fan of ColdSteel. I don't think their dogs look like lab crosses though... Their dogs look very nice but I don't like some of their breeding practices. - They breed untitled dogs. 6 of their males and 9 of their females are untitled. Why is this? - They state very specifically: "Be advised that any females purchased directly from us are eligible for a breeding back to our yard at a discount. We are always happy to make breedings back to our blood" - They state on their website that health testing is not necessary and that this breed doesn't suffer from hip or elbow problems. That is just plain untrue. Bad hips and elbows are not uncommon in APBTs. Check the OFA stats on them. - They feed Iams and Eukaneuba. They have got to know better and instead choose not to feed quality food. Those 4 reasons alone are enough to label them unethical.
-A lot of large kennels, most smaller than CS have untitled dogs -I don't agree with this, but I suppose they want to keep their bloodline going. -I also don't agree to this. But I haven't found a single correct (in my eyes) pit bull breeder that health tests. I'd love to find them, but I haven't. -It would be nice if they were fed a higher quality food. CD feeds a raw diet which I'm quite pleased with. So I do agree with you Kendalyn. No breeder is perfect, but I'm still trying to choose the best I can find. -

CC, I don't like how their dogs are chained, I would prefer them to all be housepets but its not possible. Even CD has kennels. I don't like all their dogs, but they are good breeders and some of their dogs are stunning, to me personally.
Are you wanting a gamebred dog or showbred dog?
What I'd really like is a dog that can do both. One that dosn't look to bad in the show ring, but loves to work and that same day can go out and pull a thousand pounds. I used to love Border Collies, and one of my favorite traits was they'd do anything you asked, work all day and still have some left over. -

If you look at historical photos on the site AAP posted, you can see that a lot of the dogs wern't that solid. Okay these pics won't show up but if you copy/paste it they'll show up. Stocky dogs probably arn't very agile. A dog in the pit needed to be agile. -
i like lady fire fox, she looks good there is something about lady hawke that I dont like ..i guess it's her head..a lil too mmm square i guess you would say?? but she's nice lookin lady tessa looks good :) definately alot closer to you than Cold steel pits  i like that CD pits has only bred once in the 20 years they have had APBT's...they look like a great breeder :D
Yeah I'm not a big fan of her, even if she is the mother of the other two! I especially like Fire Fox, I'm hoping she's the one they breed. What I'm looking for is much more of an "old time" dog. They do look finer boned then even most ADBA dogs but they're very leggy bitches. I absolutely LOVE Cold Steel pits but they're all the way in Florida. If you look at the majority of their dogs too they're small, no more then 50 lbs. http://www.coldsteelpits.com/ I don't mind a solid dog, but I don't want anything larger then 50 lbs personally. The dogs do look thin, but they're not thin from being hungry. If you look you can see pure muscle on them, would you call a human athlete thin? The dogs work, they're not AKC or UKC dogs. -

Lucky Chaos replied to Lucky Chaos's topic in Everything about dogs
No, she dosn't health test. Thats my one drawback. But I can always get the pup tested myself before doing any doggie sports. They're definately not as eye catching as a breeder like Cold Steel pits, but much closer and the best breeder as too what I'm looking for that I've found so far. So my choices are a dog with the scructure I want, or a much larger bulkier dog by someone who health tests. Kendalyn, I'll only have the one dog. My parents flat out refused to let me take any of the three with me. Which I'll admit is fair, they're family dogs but I don't pay for them. -

As far as I know they're still banned and none can enter after 90 days. But I'll be moving out of here before I get the pup, so no problem. -

Once I was giving McKenzie a bath. I was like 8 months pregnant at the time. She always loved a bath and never acted funny, except for this time. It was about 3 weeks after all the pups were gone. She had her head down and looked very unhappy. I was scared to death. I loved that dog with all my heart, she was my baby. I was never scared of her once, until then. I was so scared by the way she was acting I actually had my husband come in and stand beside me until I was done with her bath. She was very freaked out that day and I have no idea why. My husband was even worried. She never did anything to me, but you could tell she was freaked out. I never gave her another bath after that. Then we rehomed her.
I'm sorry, but that sounds outragous to me! She could have been upset about something, or sick. Maybe in pain.
I agree, it really dosn't seem like she did anything wrong. I would be worried about my dog, not her being aggressive, if they acted funny during something they usually enjoy. My parents had a c@t that mourned after her kittens left, she wasn't right for quite a while after. But I couldn't see giving her up for something like that. Also wasn't she a mixed breed? :-? As to the original post, you could never 100% trust the dog again. Also a dog snapping without warning whether it broke the skin or not dosn't seem normal to me. Even when Chaos was in pain yesterday she didn't growl or snap, she just licked the vets face when he was looking at it. And the vet is a total stranger since it was an emergency vet, not a member of the pack. The dog had a warning and plenty of time to move. It might be hard re-homing the dog though.

Mouse, she's a couple provinces away so I can't just drive over on an afternoon and take a look. But if I go to BC this summer I've already asked. Obviously if she says no I'll take the warning and find another breeder. Also she dosn't own the sire, just females. Here's a good site on the APBT registries, you can definately see the difference in the dogs. http://www.apbtconformation.com/apbt_size.htm -

A little rib in dogs isn't bad actually, they're very well conditioned. If you look at the majority of ADBA registered dogs they look like that, They're just in good shape. Cairn I'm not officially on the waiting list but I've emailed the breeder a couple of times, she said if she didn't have a pup for me she'd help me find another breeder I liked. Hmmm, thanks, its good to know coming from someone experienced with the breed. -
I've decided that my next dog will most likely be a breeder dog, since I'd like to show. I've decided on an APBT but with a small, leaner build since I'd like to do agility as well. I found a breeder that seems really good to me, her dogs have the perfect structure I want, they're CH's and she's only bred one litter so far but has one planned for next year. So what do the dogo experts think? http://www.cdpits.com/

Welcome back! You must stick around to provide us with puppy pics! What a cutie! He looks so snuggly and I gotta agree, I adore that tail! Diego looks like he's maturing handsomely too.

I wasn't there so I don't know if my dad asked what it might be from. But they gave her staples and antibiotics for infection. She was so good apparently, kept trying to lick the vet haha. She must be sore but she's not really acting different, came to cuddle this morning like always.

I was outside going to take the dogs for walk when Chaos saw my nightbour, who she adores. She ran over and was all wigglebutt and licks, and then the neighbour touched her side and she yelped. I thought she was just being sensitive cause she was okay after and washing the lady's face. Then we were at the park and I was playing with Riley and Chaos and Lucky were chasing each other, and I heard her yelp and she snapped at Lucky and wouldn't stop yelping and crying for a good minute. It was dark so I couldn't see anything so I thought she hurt a leg. She wasn't limping, but I brought them all home. In the light I finally found it, a huge gash under her fur. Its a clean cut, but I can't figure out what it could be from! She's only been in the house and the yard all day. My dad just took her to the emergency vet, but I took a pic of it. My poor girl. :( She never even growled, she's just been licking whoever tries to look at it.

Do most of you clip your dogs' toenails yourself?
Lucky Chaos replied to JackieMaya's topic in Everything about dogs
I'd like to use the dremel but I don't have to do the dogs nails often cause they walk/run a lot. Except for the dew claws. Chaos and Riley are fine with it, but Lucky FREAKS. I mean seriously flips out, screaming, refuses to hold still, and he's a big dog so it usually takes two people to hold him down and one to cut and even then its a challenge. When we took him to the groomers they couldn't even do it, they said he nearly choked himself. So when he went in for his eye surgery the vet did it then. We think it was cause by our previous vet. He got his nails clipped there one day and they were extremely short when he came home and ever since then he's freaked out. I use the scissors type, they work well. -
I think the dog needs to find another home without children. I don't know about putting him down though, not all dogs have the solid temperaments from breeding like APBT's. But a dog that bites for no reason, if I'm understanding right should not be trusted around a child again.
