How Do I Get My Dog To Stop Eating Clothing?
JackieMaya replied to Devildogsgirl's topic in Upbringing
I was going to post about some of things Pooh Bear has chewed on, but now I see that you lost your little Pom. I'm so very sorry! -
I sent Jackie's and Maya's forms in right away, but it took me about four months before I got around to registering Pooh Bear's chip. Glad you're getting them chipped!
If I lived in the country, I would most definitely have a dog door. But living in the 'burbs, my dogs are too vocal to let them go in and out. Also, it would probably be a little difficult with Maya being on a cable.

Maybe you could get one of these collars so that he at least couldn't lick the hot spot. I had one for Pooh Bear and it worked great. They only cost $18.93 Here's the website: http://www.vetamerica.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=116

Rosie had a tail too! With all the freaks that I see on the street downtown when I'm out having a smoke, I really should have a camera!
-
My co-worker and I were outside having a smoke break and two guys walked by with a beautiful brindle boxer with white feet. Her name is Rosie, and they came over to say hi, and Rosie gave my co-worker and I each some sloppy wet kisses. She was just a sweetheart, and you could see that her human worshiped the ground she walked on. Too bad I didn't have a camera on me!

My brother used to have a purebred Cocker Spaniel named Porkie! But the Porkie "breed" is a new one on me! What next!

Do what I did and rip up all the carpet. The only place I have carpet is on the steps going downstairs. Makes life MUCH easier!

LOL - those are great pictures! What a ham!

Dawn had a bunch of family obligations that she had to tend to on Sunday, so she wasn't able to get over there to meet him. Hopefully either during the week or next weekend they'll get together.

When I first got Jackie (two months before my dad passed away from cancer), she snuck past him several times when he would open the door, and at that time she would run once she got out the door (I can take her outside off-leash with no problem whatsoever now). So I gave my dad some training lessons on how to keep Jackie back from the door when he would open it. And I had him practice a few times while I was watching. After that, he never let her sneak past him. Maybe you could give your grandpa some lessons in how to keep Sassy back from the door. My dad was happy to have me show him how to do it.

When Maya has jumped the fence, it's very hard to catch her too. She'll run up just about to me, say hi with a big smile on her face and then turn back and finish having fun. I think the Husky in her gives her the urge to roam. She always goes back to the next block, but I have to go get her in my car. Unless you can get her cornered, she won't let you catch her on foot. So I feel for you.

That picture is just so beautiful. It brought tears to my eyes. RIP sweet Gladis.

Poor Jack! What an awful way to live and what an awful way to die. He was a beautiful little guy and deserved better than he got in life.
He's adorable!!! I've never seen a cuter puppy. Hope she's able to adopt him!!! BTW, is Dawn a member here?
Dawn isn't a member here yet. But she is definitely planning on joining. Her computer isn't hooked up yet at home, and her internet time is very limited at work.
Wow all the lucks going her way isnt it?....maybe I can rub her when I get there
Hey, she just might like that!
-
Mouse, cherish all the wonderful memories you have of your dear Gladis, and feel free to talk about her to us when you're ready. Talking about our family members who have crossed the bridge can be very helpful in getting through the grief. Take care.

the intuition of dogs - this is interesting
JackieMaya replied to imported_Kat's topic in Everything about dogs
Dogs never cease to amaze me with their natural instincts and tuition. I've seen several programs on Animal Planet about assistance dogs who warn their humans of impending seizures. And like Court said, they are definitely considered assistance dogs and must be allowed everywhere with their person. I'm so glad that you have her there with ypu while you're recuperating, Kat, and glad that you're starting to feel better. -
Yay for Zeb! It sounds like he's turned over a new leaf and is back to being a happy boy! Congratulations!

Remember Red, the Pug/Shitzu cross that my friend, Dawn (who is going to the Dogo party in Iowa) adopted? Well, she might be adding another cutie to her family! His name is Dreyfus and he's a 6 year-old male Pomeranian cross. I met him at the adoption day today and he's just adorable. He weighs 7 pounds. She's going to meet him tomorrow and maybe take him home then! Here is Dreyfus! Guide dog question(Katrina related)
JackieMaya replied to CincoandDahlilasgirl's topic in Everything about dogs
Good job! Let us know when you get a reply. -
Don't you just love it when an "expert" corrects someone and gives them totally wrong info? It's good that you're getting Kat out and about. It probably won't be too long before she's a wigglebutt going up to people and wanting to say hi. She'll get there.

And there are also dogs who alert their owners of impending seizures. This is just unbelievable that anyone of "authority" would be so clueless about assistance dogs. -

I see that Louisiana is NOT one of the states on the list. It looks like they should be. -

OMD! I can't believe that they could legally rescue a person and not take their guide dog. That HAS to be illegal! That's like taking someone who can't see without glasses and making them leave their glasses in their home, or making a hearing-impaired person leave their hearing aids. They obviously didn't know what a vital role in a person's life their guide dogs are. Unfrickinbelievable!
