I've always loved the giant breeds, but I haven't gotten out of the large breeds yet. The bigger and hairier, the better!

Welcome to Dogo! I love Landseers! We're definitely going to need to see some pictures of your puppy! I live in Minnesota and have three rescue dogs (2 are Golden mixes and 1 is an Australian Shepherd mix) and a Thoroughbred horse. Have fun here!
  Isnt' it funny how they go to SAVE the kids and the kids get scared? A little ironic  We use to have a lab who would do that too! When I was really little my sisters got me to go out in th ewater and pretend I was drowning and Blue would come out and save me, he'd pull me to shore and wouldn't stop until I was quite a distance from the water  I would LOVE to be rescued by a pack of newfies! :D
It's always amazing to me the natural instincts that dogs have. I love watching them do what they were bred to do. I would like to be rescued by Newfies too!

I know nobody likes Science Diet in here, but I feed Science Diet Large Breed Lite dry dog food that has glucosamine in it. My pups love it and they're all very healthy with beautiful, shiny coats. I also give them Science Diet lite treats.

You posted on the "ooooh it's so cold here in Iowa" thread about your Newfies not being able to swim in the winter (same with my kids). I always wondered if your Newfies go out to "rescue" you if you're out swimming. Do they have to be instructed to go rescue someone or is that just part of their nature (like Aussies naturally wanting to herd things)? Inquiring minds want to know!

This is an Australian Shepherd mix at one of the Minnesota shelters. He's another Pooh Bear (without the tan dots over the eyes)! http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=4993154 -
I guess I got lucky with Jackie and Maya. I had Jackie for six months before I got Maya, and they fell in love right from the start and were instant best friends. In the 3 years that I've had them, they've maybe had 3 "fights" where I had to yell at them (or throw pillows at them) to break them up. It was more barking and growling than anything. Pooh Bear is very smart, and if one of the girls tells him not to do something, he listens. Good luck with Sasha's vet appointment and with Baxter!

Happy Gotcha Day! He's absolutely beautiful! Give him a hug for me!

What R2 said that Jess said that Miss said sounds like a good way to go. Sorry about Sash, hope she doesn't need surgery. Paws are crossed!

Jackie shows more expression on her face than any dog I've ever had. My favorite Jackie face is her play face. She gets this goofy dorky face with her eyes real big and her tongue hanging out. And if she's sad (like if I have to leave), her look can just break your heart.

Jackie is Wigglebutt, Big Girl, Jackie Girl Maya is Fluffybutt, Yellow Girl, Miss Maya Pooh Bear is Little Boy, Big Boy (I guess I can't decide-LOL), Mr. Pooh Bear

Oh, how exciting! Crossing paws that all goes well with Baxter and the rest of your crew.

My last Golden, Crackerjack, would love to leap off the dock into the water. I have a picture somewhere of him in mid-flight. I'll see if I can find it. When I took Jackie to our lake home (which we've now sold) I did coax her to jump off the dock once. She loved swimming but wasn't too sure about jumping off the dock. I bet Maya would do it.
Just wanted to say, I love the smell of wet dog too. I dont know why... I think I started liking it when I had no dog and it reminded me of my old dog. :(
I agree! I was dogless for 20 years when I lived in apartments, so I think dogs smell just wonderful, whether they're wet or not (UNLESS they rolled in something really skanky).
Oh yeah, great quote! That was a movie line as I remember that thread, but don't remember the movie.
LOL - That's an awesome quote. I don't think I've heard it before.

Awwwwwwww, that's just too cute!

Okay, so I didn't do so well on that quiz (just below average). But it's very informative!
-
Awww, Court, I'm so sorry to hear that Pushy Cat is failing. What a privilege to have had him for so long! He's obviously had a wonderful life. Like the others said, spoil him until he has to cross the bridge, and then cherish all the wonderful years of memories you have of him. Take care.

Congratulations on a great show! It's too bad you couldn't join the rest of us, but you're excused for not coming since you had a dog show (and especially since you did so well!). He's just gorgeous!
-
Actually, I don't mind wet dog smell either. It's definitely not an aroma for everyone. LOL
-
And it was sprinkling out when I let them out this morning, so now I have three wet stinky dogs. Maya doesn't stink any more (at least not with last night's stink)! It must have been a short-lived stink. Thank Dog!
-
Ewwwww, fresh baby poop would have been worse than whatever it was that Maya rolled in! Well, this morning I awoke to the pleasant aroma of barf, on the floor RIGHT next to the bed. I lucky I didn't step right in it.
-
I let the kids outside for a while after they ate their dinner tonight, and Maya rolled in something that smells like a dead fish! She just reeks! I used some of those pet clean wipes, and it dulled the aroma a teeny tiny bit. I saw Jackie rolling a little bit over there too, but it appears that Maya found the mother lode of smells. It smells like a combination of expressed anal glands and dead fish. Well, Maya is one dog who won't be sleeping with me tonight!

We had a huge storm this evening with torrential rains and straight line winds of about 65 mph. It sounds like my burb got hit the worst. My city's police chief is strongly advising no travel on any of the roads due to downed power lines, downed trees, flooded streets and broken gas mains. I called a friend of mine (on her cell phone) who lives a few miles from my house, and she said they don't have any power and they lost some big trees from their yard. And she said that there are LOTS of power lines down. And with the power out in the whole city, I wouldn't be able to see them. It's time to leave work now, and I'm thinking I might have to stay at a hotel until daylight, which would mean that the three stooges will have to be stuck in the house for what will probably end up being about 12-15 hours with no food or toilet (I love that line from "Meet the Parents") by the time I can get back there. I know it won't kill them to have to be in the house that long, but I feel so bad making them do that. I know they wouldn't want to pee or poop in the house, but if I'm gone as long as 15 hours, I don't think they could hold it. Another concern about going home in the dark is what if there's a power line down in the back yard and I can't see it? I wouldn't want to take the chance on letting them out in the yard with a possible downed power line! I live about two blocks off the freeway, so I think I'll see if I can get to my house. If I can't, then I'll just have to hole up somewhere until daylight. Wish me luck! You might not be hearing from me until I get to work Thursday evening if the power is still out at home.
