1. There were a lot of lessons learned from Katrina! I was very glad to hear about this one.
2. Jackie went out to the barn with me today and had a blast while I was riding my horse, Jerry. When we got home, I opened up the car door for her and she ran right to the bushes where there was either a squirrel or a rabbit. She was in full hunting mode. She chased whatever it was over to the side of the house and luckily it was able to hide behind some stuff there. I have some garbage cans and a bunch of branches that came off my tree next to the house. When she took off after her prey, I yelled "Jackie, NO!", which usually stops her right away. But she was in the moment! I was glad that her prey managed to outwit her!
3. Poor Aspen! When my babies are sick, I think I almost feel worse than they do! Let us know how it all goes! And give Aspen and hug AND a kiss from me! Tell him the Three Stooges are all crossing their paws for him too!
4. Paws are crossed for a good result from the test! Poor Aspen, hopefully the vet will come up with some good news! Please keep us updated! Give Aspen a hug from me!
5. Wow! Yet another talented Dogo artist! Felicia, your work is just wonderful! I'll definitely have to have you draw my kids sometime!
6. I was worried about adding number 3 (Pooh Bear), but it's actually easier having 3 than it was having 2 sometimes. I can take one of the kids out with me, and there are still 2 at home to keep each other company. I like to take Jackie out to the barn with me, but felt bad doing it too much when Maya had to be alone while we were gone. If you know that you have the facilities, time and money to take care of another dog, I say go for it!
7. Oh, I just remembered a funny story about Jackie on one of her hunts. She had been playing with a squeaky ball when she saw a squirrel in a tree. She stealthily ran over to the fence line and sat there perfectly still. She forgot that she still had the squeaky ball in her mouth, and she inadvertently squeaked it a few times while staring down the squirrel, before she realized she was squeaking and then dropped the ball. I think she was real embarrassed. LOL
8. Jackie, who is the sweetest, most well-behaved dog I've ever had in my life, has killed 3 squirrels, 2 rabbits, 1 bird (which she caught in mid-flight!)and a few baby somethings. Pooh Bear has killed a few inanimate objects in the house, but nothing that was ever alive-LOL. Maya's never killed anything either. It does make it easier to only have one natural hunter in the family!
9. Jackie is a born hunter. When she sees a squirrel or bunny, she will stalk it while being perfectly quiet. Jackie is VERY athletic and quick, so once she starts stalking something, it's usually curtains for the prey. Luckily, Jackie is so well behaved that if she starts stalking after something, I'll just say "Jackie, no" and she'll abandon the hunt. And if she does catch an animal and I see her with it in her mouth, I'll say "Jackie, no" and she'll drop it, even if she's on the other side of the yard. I always stop the hunts when I see them happening, but since she's so quiet, sometimes she'll get something before I see that she was hunting it. On the other hand, when Pooh Bear or Maya see a squirrel, they just start barking at it. I don't think they could ever actually catch anything because they're too noisy! LOL
10. I haven't had any more complaints from the dog-hating neighbor. And what's really funny is that this afternoon I had the three kids in the back yard, and Pooh Bear was off his leash and being a wonderful boy, no barking or anything. But there was a flock of big black birds in my trees, and they were WAY louder than Pooh Bear ever was! I'm surprised the neighbor didn't yell for me to shut the birds up! LOL
11. Pooh Bear is doing great! When I let the pups out in the morning and after I get home from work (12:30 a.m.), I have Pooh Bear on a very long retractable leash so he can still move around the yard but I can control his squirrel urges-LOL. He's just great on the retractable leash, and even if the girls run off after a squirrel, he stays with me and doesn't bark. If he wants to start playing with the girls, I'll unsnap his leash, and as long as he's being quiet he can be off leash. But if he barks at all he goes right back on the leash. And I let him run free in the fenced yard in the afternoon. I take their coveted treat jar out with me, and if he starts running after something (a squirrel of course), I say "Pooh Bear come" and shake the treat jar and he stops in his tracks and comes running back to me. And if he starts barking at something, I say "Pooh Bear quiet" and shake the jar and he stops barking and comes running up to me. He sits to get his treat. Now that I found out that he loves veggies, I either give him a baby carrot as a treat or one or two pieces of dry dog food. So his barking training is coming along great! How could anyone get mad at this face! 12. What's that up in the air? Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No! It's Solagirl! What a goofball she is! Glad she didn't get hurt!
13. Well, I'm sure glad he doesn't plan on getting another dog! Geez, how hard would it have been to put Jack in a crate in the house when he was gone? Poor little guy.
14. I've seen it too, but it's great!
15. That's just so beautiful! I have several loved ones waiting for me over the bridge.
16. Very nice! Sydney is such a beauty!
17. When I went to meet Jackie before I adopted her, I was recuperating from a dislocated/sprained knee and ankle. I was out of the wheelchair by that time but I was still on crutches and with a mechanical knee brace. And my dad who came with me was wearing a mask because he had cancer and the cold air bothered him. And my brother who came with me has a beard (I guess that freaks some dogs out). Luckily none of that bothered Jackie. I think the treats in the crutches sounds like a good idea. Good luck!
18.
the vet practise sent us a "thinking of you card" I thought was very nice of them.
What a caring thing for them to do! My vet clinic sent me a card too when I had to have my horse put down.
19.
I'll try to get some Gold Bond.. Are there any popular stores that carry it? WalMart maybe??
They have Gold Bond at all department stores: Wal-Mart, Target, Walgreens, etc.
If hot spots are supposed to be kept dry, why are there so many sprays advertised for it? People use it and say it works.. Just wondering... If there is any chance a spray could work, that would be the easiest and safest thing for us all right now. What about a spray with the fan? Lets the moisure evaporate, but also gives the spray a chance to do its work.
I don't know if they have the same thing for dogs (or if the horse spray would work), but I have Furazone spray for my horse. If he gets a wound, I spray it on (it's lovely yellow) and it's a dry spray. Wonder Dust is another horse wound powder that I have.
20.
...I thought about those special collars, but it would have to be made of titanium to survive her. She would tear one of those collors to pieces in seconds. She has never liked anything to be around her head. ~Seij
The nice thing about these collars is that they CAN'T chew on them. Pooh Bear chewed up his cone after his surgery, but he wan't able to do any harm whatsoever to this collar. I really think it would help. Good luck!
21.
I broke in through a doggy door once! :o I was actually dog sitting a malamute and malamute mix. I went outside to get their water bowls and fill them and when I turned around to go back in the door was locked. :o No big deal, the keys were.... on the table in the house! :o :o So I did the next best thing... go through the dog door! So there I went smashing my fat @ss through the dog door. My boobs are so big they almost got me stuck, but I finally made it. The looks I was getting from the dogs were priceless. :niewiem: :evilbat:
Now THAT was a Kodak moment! LOL
22.
Horses get monster boogers cuz they can't breathe through their mouths. Dogs tend to pant or mouth breathe more and they don't inhale their food up their nose like a horse does when he is eating (they inhale it on accident of course! :D).
Well, I don't inhale my food up my nose and I get monster boogers. I have to excavate about twice a day.
23. When horses get stuff up their nose, they just blow it out (sometimes on their owners), when people get boogers they pick it out and/or blow it out. I never see my dogs blow their noses. Don't they get boogers?

RIP Oakie

RIP sweet Oakie! I'm so sorry, Hmmmm.
25. I can post to this thread now because my puppers like eating veggies! Jackie and Maya would never eat any veggies until they saw Pooh Bear gobbling down any veggies I would give him: carrots, cauliflower, broccoli. So now they like them too! So I'm cutting back a little on their dry dog food and adding more veggies. And I give them baby carrots as treats (besides the regular dog food lite treats that they get).
