The rescue shelter I adopted my three kids from was having adoption day today at Petco, so I took Pooh Bear. I figured there would be enough dogs there that taking all three would be too much today. Anyway, Pooh Bear's former foster parents and shelter volunteers were very happy to see him. The lady who fostered him as a puppy was there as well as the foster who I adopted him from. They were glad to see how well he's doing after his surgery in May as well as how extremely happy he is! I took Jackie and Maya to one of their adoption days last year too. It's fun for my dogs and the people from the shelter really like to see how well the dogs are doing in their forever and ever home!
i heard that american dog food companies don't put glucosamine anymore in there prodacts beacause it's considered now as a medicin, and therfore forbideen. i don't know how true it is, can sombody who knows can confirm it?
That's not true. I feed my kids Science Diet Light Large Breed food which has glucosamine in it.

Mouse, I'm so very sorry that Gladis had to make such an early trip to the Bridge. She was so young to have to make that trip so soon. She knew she was loved up until the very end. RIP sweet girl!

Pooh Bear is acting like a puppy! GRRR
JackieMaya replied to JackieMaya's topic in Everything about dogs
Pooh Bear's latest escapades: When he was on the dining room table the other week, he ate a candle, so he was pooping greenish/blue candle for several days after that. Last week he ate the gel wrist support that's below my trackball at my home computer. He was pooping clumps of light green gel after that. Luckily he's pooping all the foreign stuff out and he feels fine. If he acted like he was having ANY problems at all I would take him to the vet. So he got me to clean up my house and re-puppyproof it. -
I bent down to say hi to Pooh Bear just as he was putting his head up to say hi to me, and BAM! Luckily it was smallest head of the three dogs that my head came into contact with! LOL! One of my co-workers said she could barely see some discoloration, so it doesn't look like I was in a bar fight or anything (damn, that could have been fun!), but it's a little tender. I could have come up with a real fun story if my eye got real black and blue!

Pooh Bear was 14 months old when I adopted him, and he had hip dysplasia. He had FHO surgery (paid for by the shelter I adopted him from) and he has had a complete recovery.

I looked at the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) Disaster Relief website which details their rescuing of pets left behind after Katrina. I didn't see anything about any animals having to be euthanized to make more room. They've set up several large-scale animal shelters to accommodate the animals, and have set up identification sites for evacuees to be able to identify their pets. Here's the link: http://www.hsus.org/
Either it's so new info that their site hasn't updated it yet(I'm sure they have alot of work to do) or it's just certain shelters. It's all over dogster and some email lists.
As of today the HSUS website was last updated September 6th. I think I would go with what the HSUS says over what Dogster says.
Btw, just for the record, I am not Norma but was accused of being her. That’s what trigged my previous runt.
Do you mean grunt? -

I'm so very sorry about your beautiful Gladis' prognosis. She's way too young to have to cross the bridge so soon. Treasure the time you have left with her and cherish her memories always. Please give Gladis a big hug from me.

Thank You for Bringing This foster Dog Into My Life
JackieMaya replied to Ickle's topic in Everything about dogs
I have so much respect for people who foster dogs. Because of them, dogs learn how to live in a house, get socialized, and learn what love is before they go to their forever home. I can't thank them enough for what they do. -
Tammy my heart aches for you and there are tears in my eyes. I cannot even imagine the pain of having to give up your animals after losing everything. :( Many hugs and well wishes coming your way.
My sentiments exactly. It just breaks my heart to see what you and Mei-Mei are having to do to survive. You did what you had to do and you have NOTHING to be ashamed about. You have to concentrate on rebuilding your life. I know you'll get back into rescue again when you're able to. Hang in there!

Tammy, I'm so glad to hear that you're safe! I'm so sorry for all that you've lost, and for having to live with such an awful man! I can't even imagine what you're going through. I hope that he reconsiders and doesn't make you rehome so many animals. Take care!

Pooh Bear is acting like a puppy! GRRR
JackieMaya replied to JackieMaya's topic in Everything about dogs
I already practice NILIF with my pups, but I'm REALLY enforcing it now with Pooh Bear! No accidents last night or this morning. And I cleaned off my dining room table and moved the arm chairs away from the table to reduce temptation. -
Awww, a dog can always win over a dad! My kids love their Konks too! LOL
I was just going to ask if you ever got him in to the vet?
I didn't take him to the vet because he didn't pee in the house for like two days so I figured it was just a behavior thing. He's acting perfectly normal other than that. But I'm keep a close eye on him, and if it continues, then I'll talk to the vet. One good thing out of all of this is that he's being just fabulous on the leash. And when I pick up poop I tether him to me and he walks right next to me. And when he's loose, if he barks at all, I just shake the coveted treat jar and he immediately comes a'running! -
I am going to SLAP MY NEIGHBOR upside the head!!!
JackieMaya replied to courtnek's topic in Everything about dogs
There are a couple of kids (very nice kids by the way) who live two houses away with a Beagle. Anyway, I've let the older girl (she's probably around 10) come in with the dogs a few times. She's old enough that she won't get knocked down by my dogs, and they just love her. But she always asks if she can come in before she comes in. Her little brother is 4 years old, and wants to come in there, and told me that his mom and dad said he could go in my yard to play with my dogs (which I know they didn't-LOL). I told him that he couldn't come in my yard unless I invited him. At least their parents have taught them to respect other people's property and animals, unlike your neighbors. See? I DO have some good neighbors! -
Okay, first thing today was Jackie and Maya came downstairs when I was on the computer. Pooh Bear didn't come down. So I went upstairs, and guess where he was. ON the dining room table! And I had a bunch of stuff on the dining room table that he was getting into. I guess that means I'll be cleaning that off tonight. Then... I took the three puppers for a 45-minute walk this afternoon, and they spent most of the evening sleeping, although I did take them outside in the back yard since then to go potty. About a half hour ago, Pooh Bear woke up, got off the sofa, and went on the dog bed (the one had hadn't peed on) and started circling. I thought he was circling before he was going to lie down. But NOOO! He peed on the frickin dog bed! I yelled at him as soon as he started, then took them all outside, and he peed again and pooped. He didn't tell me that he needed to go out. He's always told me before. I've had him for almost five months, and before this week, he NEVER had an accident in the house. It's like he's going through his puppy stage all over! I know he's still a puppy (about 1-1/2 years old), but he's been so good! I guess I'll just have to take him out more even if he doesn't tell me he has to go out. Our puppers can be frustrating sometimes, can't they? Oh, and today Maya slipped out the back door before I got her harness on and jumped the fence. Luckily it only took about 5 minutes to catch her. It was just one of those days!

When I just had the two dogs, I used to take them to the kennel. It's a very nice kennel, but it was kind of hard on Jackie, even though she was with Maya. Now that I have three dogs, I'm having a professional dog sitter come to the house 3 times a day to let them out, feed them, give them TLC when I go out of town. When I got back from my trip to Texas, the dogs were very happy to see me, of course, but I could see that they were all content and happy being in their own home. So that's what I'm doing from now on!
-
The first time I had to leave Jackie and Maya at the kennel, I made the mistake of asking if I could go back to see where they were staying (after they had brought them back into the kennel). When they saw me, Maya started barking and Jackie started crying. Then of course I started crying. Jackie was the one I was worried about, since she had been at the pound. So after that, I just let them take the dogs back. One time when I took them there, they took Maya back but Jackie didn't want to go. So I said "Jackie, I have to go to work now" and walked out of her line of sight. Then she walked right back there with them. LOL The kennel I took them to feeds the dogs the same food that they get at home, and I always left a bag of their treats there too. You can bring toys for them and things that smell like you or their home, but if it's something that they could chew up, they might not let them take it back there (unless your dog never chews on things). They'll be fine. It's always hard leaving your kids for the first time. My kids always had fun there, went to the bathroom when they were supposed to, ate when they were supposed to, and played. They always got straight As on their report cards!

Tonight when I got home from work, we all went downstairs like we always do, and then right away I said "let's go outside," and Jackie and Maya came upstairs right away. I looked down the stairs, and Pooh Bear was peeing on the same dog bed again. And then when we went outside, he peed again, a lot! (He pooped outside too) Could this maybe be a sign of bladder problems or diabetes or something? I'm going to give my vet a call in the morning and see what he thinks, but do any of you guys have any thoughts on this? At first I thought it was just a behavioral thing, but now I'm thinking it might be something physical. Damn!

Awww, poor Maggie. I hope it clears up soon!

Probably jobless... yeah, it's dog related

I think the vet needs to get laid. -
I let the dogs out when I got back from my appointments at around 3:30 p.m. If Pooh Bear ran to the fence line wanting to bark, I would shake their treat jar and tell him to come. It works like a charm! Pooh Bear and Maya are real food hogs, so food is a real good training tool! Then the little yappy dog behind me (2 houses away from dickhead) went under his fence (again) and went in the dickhead's yard (hee hee). I SO hope he crapped in there! I heard dickhead yell "get that dog in his yard." I've never heard him talk, just yell. Anyway, I'm still going to have Pooh Bear on the leash when sleeping beauty is still asleep (noon) and will let him be off leash in the yard after 3:00 p.m.
