Horsefeathers!
HF you didnt forget Apricot Poodles did you? :-? and of course there is always PINK!
Of course, I didn't (me? pfft :P ). I was just making the point in general that solid colors are what's recognized. And I know alllllll about the pink poodles. I've *ahem* acquired a pink poodle in the past. I was amazed at how many people thought she was a "natural" hot pink poodle and asked where I got her. She's going to be purple pretty soon. 8)

Sarahstaff
Here are some more parti-Poodles. This page has some photos of partis showing at the UKC Premier: Cute Partis I can't bring any photos to this board, as the page doesn't allow it, but there are some nice looking dogs. One of the Standard parti Poodles got a Group 2! (Poodles are in the Gundogs group in UKC)

Guest Mutts4Me
WHOA :o I didn't check last night, so I came on now on my lunch break, saw I had 3 pages of responses, and thought maybe someone *cough* had hijacked the thread complaining about how unhealthy it would be to promote Pit Bulls as a toy for children without including a pamphlet about how Pit Bulls are way up there in the dog-bite statistics, and that just because your child now has a toy Pit, it should not in any way suggest that it is safe to allow a REAL Pit to sleep in your child's crib with it  But Woo Hoo!! People are just talking about brindle dogs!!! And posting pictures of Brindle dogs!!! YAY!!! I did not know Poodles came in Brindle, but I did know everything else posted. I was just starting to think that I should jump on the brindle-picture bandwagon and post some brindle Akitas, but Jeff beat me to it :) DL, yes, that looks like the one I saw. Its face is not very pit-like, but the ears are acceptable, and the brindle and white pattern is lovely. I want one!! :D

Lokipups
 Those brindle and parti Poodles are gorgeous! I've never seen one in anything other than a solid either. But one question, and maybe Horsefeathers can answer it, are the corded Poodles a result of genetics, or do the cords have to be created when groomed :hmmmm: ? Either way, it's still very cool looking (I just wouldn't want to have to be the one to groom it :o )!
pLaurent
How interesting! Never saw or heard of a brindled Lhasa Apso before!! If you like brindle (it's my favorite too) you can feast your eyes on Hanna, a bright tiger brindle girl I fostered. :)

courtnek
    *cough* *cough* *ahem* so brindle means that the dog is black, brown, and different shades of white?

It's basically managed mats done similarly to the Komondor or Puli. As far as I know, genetics really only plays a part in that it has to be the "right" kind of coat, one fit for cording which would be a proper Poodle coat, anyway. They are supposed to be harsh and dense and effectively water repellent. What's popular on the "pet" scene is too soft... that's NOT a good Poodle coat and not fit for cording (at least I wouldn't think so). I studied it a bit because I had some interest in cording one of my own Poodles, but it's a LOT of work. I'm not that dedicated.
gooeydog
Brindle is a layering of stripes (swirls, etc) of one color over a base coat of another color. White is usually only in markings, same as in solid colored dogs, not part of the brindle pattern itself. There are red brindles, blue brindles, black brindles, and a couple others I think, so it's not always a mizture of brown and black.

White does not always have to be involved, and there can be light brindles like this Pit Bull As well as a darker brindle like this boxer, Brindle isn't limited to dogs, and it can be found in cattle As well as horses I have, however, never heard of a brindle Border Collie, and now I'm in love ;) *edit* A bit confused about the brindled Dalmatian, I looked it up and found out that the spots were brindle-striped:
courtnek
thank you Gooey. That helps clarify. I was beginning to think I was losing my marbles, since they all look somewhat different... :drinking: :drinking: :drinking: Of course, losing my marbles would not be unusual...after today's workload, I think I have 1/2 a brain cell left...
Horsefeathers!
I feel left out...there are no brindle newfs but atleast we have a parti-colored...the Landseer.
Actually, I LOVE the Landseer Newfies.
