  1. You can give a baby or bufferred aspirin. Dosage is at about 10mg per kg bodyweight but this should be given only every 2 days. Cats can't handle the isolates of aspirin very well if its given at higher doses.
  2. geeze DL you fairly woke up my brain with that thing! :o
  3. If it was broken it would look odd and would be just hanging there. He wouldn't be able to put weight on it. My guess is that he has staved his paw, so I would say let him roam about. Restricting him will mean that he won't use the paw and hes better to use it so it doesn't seize up. Cats know their own limitations and if its not broken hes better being given a few days to see how it goes. If it swells however it is possibly a bite from the other cat which would need drained and treated with antibiotics. Good luck
  4. :o I've just came back from work and theres 23 freaking pages of this crap! I'm not even going to start to post anything constructive after whats been said!
  5. Its not way too early at all. If the puppies are eating solid food on their own then they could all go to a rescue group who can keep them together for another few weeks so that they learn more socialisation skills. After that they can go to good homes providing that the owners are knowledgeable. If in the scenario a rescue group can't take them then if they found good homes at this stage with proper doggy people then they would be fine.
  6. Kongs are super but yep they aren't totally indestructable with big jowls :P You can also get balls that are designed for pigs and trust me pigs can really do some damage. I think they are similar to the boomer balls you can get but I'm not totally sure on the actual name. As for surgery...I have 2 I-qube balls that are looking a little worse for wear and are going to be in line for major surgery tomorrow morning.
  7. The appearance comments really weren't appropriate folks. Hats off to those who apologised. It takes a big person to do that. Its the dogs that I am extremely concerned about at this point and not their owner. How many more dogs are you going to go through that don't adapt to your lifestyle? I personally think its crazy getting another dog whenever you know that you will have problems with your accomodation and living at your parents not to mention that you now have a kitten as well to contend with. You really need to look at the situation and appreciate the animals that you have and be thankful that you do have them instead of rushing out to get more pets in an attempt to try and fill a psychological void. Think about whats in the animals best interests and not your own.
  8. Cassie is the golden retriever/BC mix in the pic that I posted
  9. I took Kes across the fields earlier this morning and they were mighty mucky and the stream was flowing quite fast with all the rain thats fallen. Anyhow I'm standing very peacefully just looking over at the little stream and enjoying the lovely calm of the morning and the sound of the water babbling, when Kes the wee monster jumped on me from behind. I was caught off guard and just managed to grab the stone wall before I went head first into the stream! :o I totally would not have been impressed if she actually had got me wet. I actually think she was getting me back for pushing her into the stream last week when she was mucked to the eyeballs and needed a bit of a washing off
  10. lol Kes is verrrry sneaky. When shes quiet I usually know shes up to no good and thats usually eating something she shouldn't
  11. lol i feel that. I've had Kes doing off leash since I got her at 6 and a half weeks and if the neighbours were out they of course were more interesting  The trick is I've found to be very appealing to your dog. Bond firmly by playing together, doing bits of obedience together but always make it fun, so that your dog has a reason to come back to you. Kes is 4 months now and she was at the park today and a very nosy Schnauzer called Jude bounded over and of course Kes had to go investigate, but i'll give her credit because when I called her she came back. I made a massive fuss of her telling her she was good and kept her off lead and even though the other dog was still in the vicinity she kept focussed on me and ignored Jude. Now, a wee thing I have experimented with doing with other dogs is called the join and connect. This is similar to the join up you would see in horses. Release the dog off lead in a quiet area and say nothing but walk away from the dog. Each time the dog comes to join you change direction quickly and keep quiet. You are essentially ignoring the dog. Keep this up until you are walking away from the dog again and then call the dog. If the dog comes immediately to you he gets praised. If he runs past you, then you start the process of changing direction and ignoring him again. Dogs love to be praised. This behaviour of humans walking past will not bode well with them and they will try their utmost usually to monitor your change of pace, then will be delighted when they hear a verbal command and will usually try very hard to please. I've carried out this type of process before with clients dogs and it has worked wonders, so I thought I would experiment it and try it with Kes. Again it has been super. If I change direction now and she isn't alerted she will dart in my direction. She doesn't like me being in the other direction and its formed an excellent basis for her recall skills :D Remember you always must give more than enough praise to give the dog an incentive to return to you whatever method you try.
  12. R2 the photo of Cassie definitely isn't just a submissive grin. Cassie smiles like this all the time when I see her about the agility shows
  13. I'm so glad your boss is understanding and hopefully poor maya will feel better soon
  14. What age is Stealth? As JM suggested the best way is to use a lunge line or a long line or a flexi lead. Start with short distances and call your dog followed by come and each time he comes to you make sure he gets loads of verbal praise and a treat like a piece of sausage. Increase the distance and if he ignores you then flick the lead sharply to remind him . This way each time he hears his name he will asoociate it with a tug of the lead and knows that he must return to you in order to get the reward.
  15. uh oh poor Maya :( . Tell us what the vet says please!
  16. Dal, i have to agree with whats been said sorry. I think this is ludicrous to be honest. You got a pom before and you gave him away because you said he liked kids and didnt fit into your household. You can't just give dogs away like that and get replacements. They are not disposable. They are real live breathing animals.
  17. Do your dogs behave differently when they are out at night for walks compared to during the day? At night time where I live, its more alive. There are foxes and badgers about as well as icky bats which tend to dive bomb me  Kes is all alert at night and does this sort of wee prance with her ears mega erect and looking all around her. Its quite funny to watch actually. Last night I had her out at about 11pm and Sandy the horse in the field opposite was there and he came cantering over, so of course Kes had to have a nosy so she races up the bank and then stands stock still unexpectedly confronted with Sandy who towers over her. She raced down pretty fast again
  18. also agreed. I believe this is a scam and I don't see any proof of honesty.
  19. lol the farting thing is hilarious! Kes is a right wee Madam. Good example was this afternoon. Cherith was taking up the 3 seater sofa at the top of the sunroom and I was on the chair. Kes had tried to get comfy sitting on my lap on the chair but it didn't work and after many frustrated groas later she pounced on Cherith. She proceeded to terrorise Cherith by wuffing at her and eating the book she was reading, then she would get off the sofa and leap on her time after time. I was laughing so hard at this and Cherith was yelling at her and Kes took not one bit of notice. Eventually cherith got fed up and went to the bottom of the sunroom and Missy madam barked at her like a triumphant bark and then stretched her body along the length of the sofa
  20. Kes loves any sort of scritchies but especially behind her ears, her chin and her tummy. As soon as she sees someone she will go all waggly butt then lean against the person and flop to the ground and expose herself  The noises she makes are crazy with the grunts and the moans and the arerrr rerrrs :o
  21. Looks like a wee polyp to me. I would insist that the vet remove it and do a biopsy. It isn't going to go away so it would be needing removed eventually anyway. This isn't just for cosmetic reasons. Its also because there are cells in there that have the potential to be malignant if spread to other areas of the body.
