1. If his dogg was off lead he doesn't have a leg to stand on from the point of view that i see it from on. Keep us updated
2. Happy whelping day Tiggie  :bday:
3. Since its not raining today I put her outside and tethered her. Shes actually not barking :o Maybe she feels too confined in the utility room but i gave her lunch outside and shes laying down happily not uttering a word. Really strange dog!
4. No its not Kes. Kes is a wee angel  Its Zoe my 14 year old Golden retriever. She is barking non stop  . I take her out to pee and she comes in and again starts to bark. I know she is old and her days are numbered but this barking is so annoying! My head is bursting this morning and its only 10.35am but she has been at it since 6am arghhhhhhhh. :wallbash: Even if i go out to tell her to shut it, i only close the door of the utility room and she starts up again! I hate yelling because then Kes thinks shes getting a bollicking and she cowers in her crate looking up at me. I was afraid that the barking would teach Kes that its ok to bark but thank goodness shes a smart puppy and knows that she will get yelled at if she does bark unnecessarily. I honestly think that shes senile! Has anyone else had an old dog who has done this?
5. ooh have lots of fun! I love going socialising with Kes. I have the train station planned as next on my list and our local Texaco filling station doesn't reallya llow dogs but they go bonkers over Kes when i bring her. Banks are fine too, so its just a matter of getting kicked out to see where the dogs are allowed. I feel like saying this sometimes: My pup is better behaved than some kids who go rampaging all over!
6. I used to petsit for 2 Irish wolfhounds and their owner got into the habit of hand feeding them if they didn't eat. Now when I was petsitting them I told her I refused to feed them porridge and kibble from a spoon every morning.. She told me to do what I had to and she would love to stop the messing about. The amount of food was dramatically reduced to about a quarter of what they usually had. The dogs first of all looked at me when I set the bowl down and were like wtf? :o I set the bowl down, told them to eat and if they didn't and walked away i took them back to the bowl and i removed it and the food got thrown out. Same procedure at dinner time. If they didn't eat or left some it was thrown out. They soon got pretty hungry and it only took a day of eating very little food before they clicked and the next morning they were ravenous and wolfed the food down before i could even set the bowl down to them on their feeding stand! If your pup isn't eating don't start changing and giving her options. If you feed a well balanced kibble add a few veggies for texture but feed only a little bit. If she doesn't eat it , then make a show of removing the bowl and you can either set it on the work top for 5 mins and present it again or you can bin it totally. If she doesn't eat then she fasts . its simple as that. Dogs are not fussy eaters. Its humans who change their foods and their eating habits around that make them fussy eaters. Dogs are creatures of habit and they do not need or appreciate a change of food every few weeks/months. Do not feed her on a bed or on a sofa. Feed her in the kitchen or in a utility room or similar and keep her bowl in the same place every time when feeding her. Sometimes you have to be harsh on yourself to do good for your dog
7. I have to say I would have to be a Border collie. If I'm not kept stimulated I become very bored and destructive  Living the life of a working bc would be brill 8)
8. have a brilliant trip!!! Say hi to Texas for me and tell it I'll see it hopefully next month
9. yep I get on well better with the canine type than the human type
10. Angie slow up a tick. You have only had this dog for a few days and it is going to take a bit of time before Kat adjusts to living in a home with a fmily and having a schedule. Sitting at the door is what I have taught Kes. Before the door is opened I ask her if she wants to go hurries and if she sits i take her straight out and give her buckets of praise when she does it. Kat is a little scaredy dog from what I've seen but she will benefit if you are firm with her. Don't give her the option of going to the grass/for a walk . Make her come with you on a lead and give her wise reassurance. Don't cuddle her every step of the way as that can sometimes enhance the uncertainty in a dog, but instead it sometimes helps if you distance yourself from her and only give her praise when she actually does something. be firm but fair, but give it time. edit: I didn't spell uncertainty right
11. No more for now! Kes has the energy of 10 dogs! :o When she matures (probably when shes about 10 years old  ) then I'll consider another one which will of course most likely be another Border collie....i'm a glutton for punishment!. :P Other breeds I would consider would be a hungarian vizsla or an alaskan klee kai.
12. It never ceases to amaze me how animals can still love after their owners have been so horrid to them. I've been involved in court cases for animals cruelty before and i remember several years ago a little lurcher who came in very badly beaten and neglected. The uspca found the dog in time...she was suspended by a rope from a tree but thankfully a passer by had called immediately. In the court room that little dog heard her masters voice when we brought her in for evidence and she strained hard to go to him. I mean she was really pulling on her lead and yipping and whining to get to him. He betrayed her but yet she still loved him. To me thats so very sad.
13. what a handful! I agree with Shara. I would maybe contact some rescues and see if you can get them fostered to breed specialists. what sort of ages are all of these dogs?
14. i use smushed up banana/frozen yoghurt/marmite and add bits like carrot/kibble to it and freeze it. Its sooo much fun creating a kong :D
15. Thankfully you were able to fix the dog up  I know what you mean. I worked at a veterinary practice for 11 and a half years as a veterinary assistant and people used to call me and ask me to get medications for their animals because they didnt want to spend money at the vets..yeah right like i of course have a big stock supply of vet drugs in my house
16. Marion I am so sorry to hear Cleo has gone to the bridge but the fact that your mum and cleo are now together gives a sense of comfort. The past lot of months you gave a home and love to Cleo and you did wonders for that little old dog and letting her go with dignity was the best thing you could have done *hugs*
17. Ok problems like dominance can be overcome, but you will not know unless you try it in the surroundings where the dogs will be. If you do try, you are going to have to be extremely strong and strict with all the dogs so that they know that you will not tolerate pissing around and misbehaviour of whos trying to prove top dog. It has to be you that is controlling everything and they have to know that through your actions, which is where the whole NILIF concept comes from. Now more specifically Heinrich is a border collie and even though he is older nad past the main puppy stage, he is still going to be as hyper and demanding for attention and work. I bet thats why his previous owner just released him because he was too much of a handful...usual story unfortunately. BC's are not just like any other dog and they need that one on one attention to keep their motivation levels satisfied. Trying to physically tire a bc is mission impossible but you can attempt to mentally tire a bc, and that takes time and effort. Having a bc is total committment. Its like having a small child and you must make sure that you are mentally ready for that and your family also as you still live at home. Kes is a bundle of energy and she wears me out. She truly does and I go to bed some nights totally exhausted, but thats a collie for you! They are just like the equivalent of having a 3 year old child and they don't mentally mature until about 4/5 years of age. Training is my life line! If Kes didnt have training and was with people who couldn't handle her she would be in a home right now. i know that for sure, but shes my baby and i love her and its a learning process for us both. You just won't know until you try. I don't know what Heinrich is like at all so I can't cast speculation on what will happen. Keep us updated
18. its all fair in love and war
19. i dont even think i will comment :o
20. HUUUUUUGE congrats with Kat!!! :D :D Just let her adjust easily and in her own time she will learn that you are her partner
21. what a wonderful day! It sounds like soooo much fun :D
22. lol DO you're hilarious  I had a dream about this treat ball last night.
