  1. oh this sounds interesting! Kes would go mad! She gets hours and hours of fun out of that i-qube just squeaking and pouncing on the balls!
  2. I was in the uility room tonight and I was rubbing deep heat onto my calf muscle when it spasmed again and sent me into a frenzy of pain and I started owwing and cursing :o . Kes got really worried! She whimpered at me and she looked up at me and was pressing herself really close to me and you could see the genuine concern in her wee puppy eyes. :iloveyou: She really can be a very sweet little dog at times :D
  3. people with carpets and animals are insane! We have stone/tiles/wood through our house with carpet only on the stairs and landing. Far easier to keep clean and musch healthiser for the dogs as mites/fleas/icky things etc can't live as easily on hard wood than they can burrowed into carpet.
  4. I'm curious. What breed(s) have you? You just bred a litter, correct? What makes your dogs so special that you think they should be bred?
  5. It looks to be a pretty good school. It doesn't however say that the dog school is registered with any societies or approved, but I am not sure if that works the same way as it does in the UK, with registered dog clubs having more open opportunities for eligibility to enter agility teams etc. I think clicker training is a matter of preference for agility. Personally I don't like it. I think its too fumbly and timing is hard to get right. I prefer to use my voice because in a competition my voice will be there and a clicker won't be, so I use the tools that I will have in a real life situation. I don't agree with them not teaching heelwork. Yes, a dog must learn to work on both sides but the way i train that is to do heelwork on both sides. You build it up in baby steps then you start to get the dog to work away from you. Doing fast close heelwork with Meg has saved my skin more times than enough in agility comps when there are tight pull through's! The prices seem very reasonable as well so I would encourage you to go along and watch then see what you think. The best way to tell is by observing 1 or 2 sessions to get a feel for how the instructors really do manage the class. Just be warned... its VERY addictive! Have fun! :D
  6. Hi there, To be honest your work schedule sounds a bit hectic, but I admire your honesty in giving full details. Would you even be able to come home during the day to walk/ interact with a dog? That would break up the c. 10 hours. Nobody can be with a dog all day and I think now rescues are getting very picky about that expecting people to be a stay at home parent for their animal but in the real world it can't work like that. If you can perhaps get home during your lunch break then I would suggest an older dog. A puppy or a young dog will demand a lot of attention and need trained whereas an older stable dog will be quite content usually and will have settled away from the curious puppy stage. For some breeds, apartment living is fine. Dogs don't need a huge garden to run around as long as they are given frequent and adequate walks/runs in parks. I would think that a little cross breed of a medium size would be your best bet. Something around 5 years old ? Also you may want to consider a retired greyhound. They make lovely very sweet natured pets and contrary to speculation they don't require loads of space to run. They are actually very placid sedate dogs and adequate walks every day is good enough to suffice their energy requirements. I had a look on Petfinder but you didn't mention your state so I didn't list any of the dogs I found. p.s. welcome to Dogo
  7. That is disgusting! He committed a murder and he should serve a prison sentence for what he has done  . I am so sorry to hear that you lost one of your friends at work :(
  8. Kes: Shes mine!!! Allllllll mine :D thats very good hehe. What I love about her is that her drive and will is immensely strong. Stronger than I have seen in a BC puppy before and because I'm going to be channelling that power through obedience/agility/SAR etc, she is going to be an amazing strong dog to work with and to be my partner. :D I love the way she twitches when she sleeps and looks so innocent and sweet and when I come home from work and she descends on me with so much joy like she hasn't seen me for days. I never had that before, with Meg she went mad of course when i went to her house but its special that when i come home feeling crap, Kes is there to hug. I love the way that when I lie in her crate with her when i settle her at night, she snuggles up to me and sighs sweetly nuzzling her head under my chin. :iloveyou: Bad things: well shes a little tear away puppy  with a lot to learn but her enthusiasm for doing things at 100 mph is good for what our future plans are. :D
  9. Glad you got a diagnosis for wee Clea and hope she makes a speedy recovery. Don't feel guilty
  10. Picture the scene. I had cash in a poo bag (clean one :P ) to take to the bank to lodge, because i ran out of money bags. Anyhow before the bank I went to the card shop to get a wedding card for friends who are getting married in july. I opened the zip on my wee bag and the darned poo bag got stuck in the zip :o There I am holding up the queue while I'm fighting with the zip and I had to explain to the girl. I meant to just say "bag" but I came out with poo bag  Anyhow I had to stand there and pick bits of peach coloured scented poo bag out of my zip to get it to budge so i could get my purse out. Talk about embarassing
  11. Frontline all the way. Just a general point: anything you can buy in a pet shop is usually not strtong enough to do the job properly so its better getting flea treatment/worm tabs from a vet
  12. hey Angie, agility will be just the thing to build up her confidence. I've seen dogs before that were really shy wee things and agility brought their real characters out, so I'm sure Kat will be just fine. :-) Abker those weavies are brilliant! :D
  13. For weavies I used bamboo canes to start off with then I progressed to use poles that you stick in the ground and use for fencing. Cheap and do the trick :D
  14. sod the dogs! They sound good enough for me to eat! I love sweet potato mixed with a wee tad of mustard :D
  15. Sounds just like an abscess. Don't panic and let her see the vet
  16. mega congrats!!! I know that wonderful feeling and you just want to go and yell I have my own doggggyyyyyyyy :D :D :D She looks like a lab mix and her sister looks husky mix so I would go with a wonderful mutt  Are you keeping her name as Kat? Brill name by the way not that I would be biased of course :P
  17. I thought that would be a quick thing! Apparently not. Well Kes is 2.1 apparently and what goes against her is that she is under weight and isn't spayed  Yeah right shes under weight and at the age of 13 weeks obviously she isn't spayed. I don't like that site :o
  18. ewwwwwww how can people eat pea soup! :o Thats just wrong! :o
  19. Its actually more a sign of contentment than submission. He trusts you and knows his place and therefore he doesn't have to get up every time to be reassured. I would say hes a very secure dog.
  20. ahh the variety is so expanse in the states! I'm going to need lots of help (hope you're reading this TDG :P), if I change Kes from Royal Canin. In saying that though, I may not. She is doing well on this but it costs a bloody fortune... a 4 kg bag is
  21. brill to hear PB is doing great :D Is jive the new morse code now  You lot really are weird :P
  22. I think its very unreasonable to aks your dog to sleep outside at someone house where she doesn't know the surroundings. Also with another dog its very risky because the other dog may be territorial and lay into Anassa. Apart from anything else she is a puppy and she needs to be contained. Where exactly is she going to lseep? Does your SIL have a kennel for her or a secure pen? If she has access to pot plants then she is roaming free and there is every chance that she could get away from the property from the sounds of it. Say to your SIL politely that she is only a puppy and she needs to be kept out of harms way. Strange house or not... I know I certainly would never let a dog sleep outside on its own. Anytime Meg has been to crufts with me or at other shows or at friends houses, I always make sure she is allowed in the bedroom.
  23. Yes lethal whites (possession of 2 merle genes as a result of merle to merle breeding in shelties, border collies, rough/smooth collies and aussies etc) have typically all sorts of heart and lung problems in addition to being deaf/blind/born with no eyes, cleft palates and extra toes. It disgusts me that some people will still breed merle to merle
  24. Kes really does amaze me. I'm sitting here on the computer in the office that adjoins my bedroom just reading the messages on another board, and I have her in my room. She has her fleecey bed there and toys and I just turned around and she pulled her bed into the office behind my chair with some toys to be (i think) closer to me  I had finished the message and I just heard a noise of something being dragged. Apparently now she thinks its also a good idea to have the training bag of toys at close proximity too ! lol! :D
