  1. Theres an agility trial on today in dallas and ive convinced susie to let me go for an hour on the promise that I won't try to get up and run a dog lol. i've not been out for over a week so im dead excited and having never seen american agility before, it should be interesting to compare to the uk agility system. It might sound so trivial but when you have been cooped like a chicken in hospital for ages, its just good to get out :D I miss my wee Kes so much as well and talked to Mum this morning and she said shes totally spoilt by the family now. i just want to get better to get back to my puppy dog :D
  2. This is interesting and if i felt better i would do more research on it. Where I'm staying at Susan's house she has 2 shelties. The older one Meghann is 5 yrs old and usually stand offish to people she doesn't know. When I was sick she never left my side all that day on wednesday last week and kept licking my face which likely kept me conscious. When the paramedics came later that day, everyone says that Megs turned nasty. She had her front paws on my chest and she wouldn't move. Nobody could pull her off me. When they finally got her away and the paramedics took me she ran around barking like a maniac looking confused. Thats the way that susan's husband described her Since ive been home she has been acting weird and will hardly go out even to pee. Everytime i get out of bed to go to the bathroom or to the computer she is barking wild fury at me. I'm still doped up on these fricking drugs but im trying mind over matter. I'm not steady on my feet and thats kinda weird but shes barking at me as if its a warning.? Last night I had another seizure but it was only a petit mal one and not too bad. Before it happened i felt dizzy in bed and susan and geoff and their daughter Angie was there beside me. Megs was snapping at anyone who came near me and i mean she really meant business. It was like she predicted it coming. When I came to she was again snapping at everyone and only settled when i stroked her. Its fascinating that shes doing this, and i truly think that she can detect the change in brain wave activity even before i start feeling that odd feeling in me. I just thought i would share with you all. Dogs never cease to amaze me.
  3. I am so sorry to hear this sad news Mouse. I'm going to have to read back and see what happened because I've been so out of the loop. *hugs*
  4. Hope everything turns out ok and you get answers and treatment for Sassy
  5. Is this the GSD bitch that was on the way home from an agility show when her owner's car crashed? Its wonderful news if so that she was found after all this time! :D
  6. I half expected the vet to recommend this. You have to weigh up Star's quality of life. Like I said before when I saw those bites the first thing that came to mind was that she meant business. She outright attacked your kid. She did it once and she will do it again. I would recommend a test period. Pancreatic deficiencies can be treated with enzymes easily, but I honestly cannot connect this to Star attacking. you therefore need to make the hard decision of euthanasia, giving her away to a family who has no kids, or you keep her on another trial period and you tell the kids strictly that they are not to be near Star's personal space. With Star herself I would recommend exercising a regime of strict discipline. She shouldn't be on the bed or in the kitchen when you eat, so that she is aware of her lace in your family. If she bites within this test period or her behaviour/temperament is unstable, then you need to do whats right for your family.
  7. It sounds fine. as long as the dog will get off on command then I see no reason to not let them up. Kes loves getting up and my goodness is she woosey! Tonight she was on her back taking up the chair while I balance on the edge and then she had enough of my cramped space and hopped up onto Mums knee and lay on her back with her head restingon Mums neck and her big gangley long legs sprawled out  I just couldn't help but feel happy and laugh
  8. Scary situation and sorry to reprimand you but your sons face or any other childs face should not have been that close. Its an immediate threat perceived by a dog if there is face close to the dogs and in dfence the dog will bite. Star is an adopted dog and you haven't had her very long (less than a year i think?). Its not a good situation at all and bar any medical reason, you will have to practice some strict enforcement rules with both your children and with Star. She must learn that it is not acceptable to bite and lunge out like that and likewise your kids need to learn to respect stars personal space, and to never put their face close to a dogs face. Your son was very lucky. That bite could easily have got caused damage to the eye and the bite marks around his face show me that Star wasn't just warning. She meant business.
  9. any young puppy with parvo in our surgery was always immediately given electrolytes by mouth and iv fluids and placed in quarantine. I find it very alarming that the vet sent this puppy home in such a critical state. :-?
  10. aww that little Boston is so cute. I really do think its the only small breed dog I may have in the future. Theres something so appealing about them
  11. You must take your puppy to the vet. It sounds seriously like parvo. Is the pup vaccinated and wormed?
  12. That is ...interesting  I wonder how long it actually took to do that?
  13. p.s. Thanks everyone. I looked for the canned pumpkin for Zoe before and I can't get it here in any supermarket unfortunately.
  14. I got her a food in the same range that differed slightly in the protein level because the food I had ordered in was sold accidently. This food is specialist to only 1 pet shop that I can get to and they have to order it in specially for me, because its too expensive for them to buy in for regular customers. I can only get the original food in a 2kg bag which lasts approx 10 days and therefore I didn't have extra to mix, which is why I mixed her original food with the new stuff that she was on for 4 days. I managed to negotiate and I now have a 15kg bag of the canine extra which is what she is used to. I couldn't afford to hold a months stock of this food. It is the most expensive food you can get over here. A 15kg bag cost me
  15. Maybe its just me but she looks like shes getting skinnier! I'm contemplating giving her a little bit of chicken and rice tonight. The vet said starve until tomorrow morning but she last ate at 6pm last night so that will be nearly 24 hours. The diarrhoea is less liquidy now as well but shes so hungry. She also just lost 2 canines so that could contribute to her being sicky i think. :-?
  16. I had to get her a different food last week because the idiots at the pet store sold the one she normally gets even though its ordered in specifically for me only. Then I got her original and started mixing it a bit and she has really bad diarrhoea now :( The mess I woke up to this morning was unbelievable but I would rather have her well. On the vets advice I have to starve her for 24 hours until tomorrow morning and shes going buck mad for food. I don't want her to be sick :(
  17. brill news that Bailey is nice and healthy
  18. That excellent to hear that Kat is doing so well! Hey Angie I'll be in Dallas Fort worth next week for 2 and a bit weeks so if you fancy meeting up, pm me
  19. What age is she? She sounds like she is challenging you for authority. Spend one on one time with her taking her out for proper long walks (not just a jaunt around the block..proper walks that last an hour long). Do some obedience training with her, to build up the bond and to remind her where her place is in the home. When you play with a tuggy ball teach her to give on command and take it from her. Don't let her just drop it. Simple little things like this can help and always make sure you get your point across. Use a stern and firm voice with her when you are commanding her, so that she knows you aren't messing about.
  20. aww poor Fritz. I hope the tear mends itself. Physio can usually help it and he doesn't sound like a very active cat so healing should definitely be quick.
  21. yep there are loads of aggressive labs and retrievers out there. The perfect family pet has been so overly bred to match its stereotypical image with demand, that careless breeding occurs and the genetics are not even considered. Its all about money and I can honestly say the past lot of years Ive seen more aggressive Labs than any other dogs that have a reputation like Rotties, GSD's etc.
  22. it sounds like you had great fun. I know what you mean about your first dog teaching you. Its the same with Meg. She taught me more than I ever could have hoped for and now I hope to do Kes justice by bringing her to the same level that Meg reached.
