1.
Crystal, to me it sounds like you've got a high drive puppy in need of a lot of discipline and training and exercise. That's a really tall order, especially for someone who is looking after two small children as well. My best advice would be to exercise Toby like there is no tomorrow. He really sounds like he is just begging for it. Remember, a tired dog is a good dog!
Excellent advice. Your dog sounds like a puppy to me. My aunt had a lab puppy that sounds exactly like this, we looked after her for a week and she was horrible with the biting. Well I started taking her for long romps with the other dogs and she would come home and be like a totally different pup. You said in another thread in the mornings he's put on a chain outside and brought in in the evenings, and then put in the laundry room for the night. I don't know if this changed but this is not enough time and socialization for a puppy. An hour a day of training, broken into small maybe 15 minute sessions is a must. Then lots of playtime and walks so he's tired out. It took me ages to feel like a had a bond with Chaos, she was a very independent pup, and really didn't want much to do with humans. Finally I realized that it was as much my job as hers to form the bond and started spending hours every day with her. Now she's the best dog I could have asked for, and I can really see the bond we have. Now as to what other people have said, I have to agree and have agreed for a while but I'm not going to get into that.
2. Now don't get me wrong, I'd never do it. But how is de-barking worse then say, cropping? Both are surgeries that alter the dog. Both don't really have a purpose, dogs can be trained not to bark and cropping is only for looks. I don't agree with it, but if you are for cropping, then how can you say de-barking is cruel? Its natural for dogs to bark, but its also natural for a dog to have its ears.
3. Thats really odd! But interesting to say the least. It sort of reminds me of the Tazmanian Wolf (extinct). The ears look the same from what you can see, but the tazmanian wolf only had stripes on the back part of its body. 4.
And we already had pine shavings for the hamsters
Pine shaving are extremely bad for small animals. They produce phenols that cause respiratory problems. Cedar is even worse. I use aspen shavings (only wood bedding that dosn't produce harmful phenols) or CareFresh small animal bedding for my hamsters and rats.
5. We all have bad days, you're certainly not a bad mom. I've yelled at my dogs when I just reached the end of my rope. Some dogs are just more sensitive then others.
6.
I wouldnt' be concerned. I would be more concerned if she was. If your dog is not breeding stock, she should be spayed as soon as possible.
What Newfiemom said!

what breed is this

What breed? A Mixbreed. You cannot register mutts. I wouldn't sell the pups, I'd find them loving forever homes with a spay/neuter contract. Then I'd make sure if any pups are given up they come right back to me. Then I'd spay/neuter the parents so something like this dosn't happen again and add to the huge dog overpopulation problem.
8. I like Laurels name! Its pretty.
9.

I was thinking of getting one of those for Riley. Being a border collie he has tons of energy to burn. And I don't much fancy being pulled off my bike because he sees a squirrel.
the better springers use metal poles to attach the dog on a harness to your bike. it prevents them from running in front or in back of you, and if he saw a squirrel while he may lunge, the metal poles are very strong. you just have to watch him while you're biking
Thanks, thats definately the kind I was going to look into. Theres a guy who rides past my house with his dobe on one of these all the time, the dobe dosn't like other dogs and tries to stop when he sees mine so I assume it works pretty well.
10. Theres something people use for small animal cages that protects from urine, I imagine its the same thing. It has to be safe for them to chew too. I'll look around as I can't remember the name.

12. I love having three. The only thing I dislike is I can't walk all three at once so I have to do shifts, unless I go to the close dog park. Other then that its fun.
13. American Pit Bull Terriers and AmStaffs are two different breeds, that were once a single breed. The AKC didn't like the name "pit" so they renamed the dogs American Staffordshire Terrier and registered it. Today they are two different breeds (though this is debated). The Amstaff is usually larger and stockier, while a well bred APBT is smaller and leaner. Funny thing though, an AKC registered AmStaff can be registered with the UKC as a APBT, but a UKC APBT cannot be registered with the AKC. The kennel club that seems to keep APBT's to their original look is the ADBA. Heres a pic of an AKC registered AmStaff. This dog was the 2005 Westminster best of breed. 14. Thanks for the well wishes everyone. The surgery went just fine, and his eye looks so much better. Actually I don't think he even noticed much more then he missed his breakfast, he gobbled dinner down faster then I've ever seen him before.
15. Mine get an hour in the morning, 6:30-7:30 AM Then in the afternoon I take them for seperate walks, either Lucky and Chaos together and Riley on his own or Riley and Lucky together and Chaos on her own. They get about 15 mins to half an hour. Then someone else takes them out for another 1-2 hours at night, usually 7- 8 or 9 pm.
16. Lucky's going in for surgery tomorrow to get a growth above his eye removed. He got it removed last time and luckily it wasn't cancerous. But its grown back a second time. Its not large, but the vet wants to remove it because of where it is and because its rubbing against his eye. Its also a bright red colour, where as before it was much darker. Its not a major surgery but I can't help being worried! Hopefully everything will go just fine.
17. I would say he's a mix of cute and cuter. :D No really, its sort of hard to tell with puppies, but maybe theres some collie or sheltie in there from his markings.
18. I was wondering what peoples thoughts are on this? Can people like "The Pet Psychic" and others actually "talk" to animals and have them talk back? On another board I'm on theres a couple of them. I'm tempted to try a session to see what happens. And other people have said their animal has sent them visions, or messages like to say goodbye before they pass on as an example. So what does everyone else think?
19. All you have to do is look at one of your old posts to see a new sig.
20. No its not true.
21. Chaos- a state of extreme confusion and disorder Lucky- Occurring by chance; fortuitous Riley- Uh.. I don't know.
22.
I don't understand why people pick the worst breeds when some one is afraid of a dog. I saw this family at the dog park, and the mother was terrified of dogs, and she sat there on the bench watching the dogs. They picked a german shepard of all dogs. Those things are huge full grown and the pup was only 10 weeks old. I feel sorry for the puppy most of all. But if you're gonna get some one to like a dog, pick a cute playful breed, and definatly not one that can be easily trained to do harm, especially with young children around. A lab can be a great guard dog, and a good family dog.
Labs and GSD's are about the same size. They're both extremely popular breeds, which means theres a lot of badly bred ones of both. Which means your just as likely to get a bad lab as a bad GSD. And either can be trained to do harm. I had a GSD and my aunt was terrified of her. She was the sweetest dog, even after being abused. She adored kids, too. My aunt came to love her as well. GSD's can also be a great family and great guard dogs if properly trained.
that is the typical thought process, but possible (possibly, not definately) the exact opposite of what should be thought. larger dogs (germans, pits, large labs, even great danes and mastiffs) are much more calm. if you step on them, so what, they outweigh you and it didnt hurt them. i have a presa canario that will be huge, HUGE! and my girlfriend is somewhat frightened by large dogs. i can see where this would be a problem if he were nervy or sharp, but large breeds (that are well bred) have fewer issues with nerves. they are rarely fear bighters (which account for nearly 90% of the bites out there). if it is well bred and well raised, a large ,solid temperament dog is the best thing for people who are scared of dogs. not that some smaller dogs arent just as good, but situationally, they are more easily intimidated. Joseph
I agree!
23. Good luck! I hope you get your dream puppy, you certainly deserve it. I love that name too, its so pretty.
24. Its not in place until August 29th I believe. So they don't have to be muzzled until then. The real test will be how many are muzzled after that date.
25. Pumpkin thats so odd, I only have a hotmail and it let me. Anyway, I doubt the person's coming back unfortunately. :x I feel sorry for his poor dog who's gonna be bred while just a pup herself.
