Awww, true love. I know the feeling well. I love it when my kids look at me and I can tell they're saying "I wuv you." I'm very happy for you and Kes!

We all want to give our dogs the best life we possibly can, and try to rehabilitate them. But some just can't be rehabilitated. I agree that Pepper is a dangerous, unstable dog who unfortunately should be put to sleep.

I made an appointment for next Wednesday to get Pooh Bear's stitches and staples taken out! His incision looks wonderful and his leg is doing great. I assume he won't have to wear his no-bite collar after that. He'll be free! By the way, he hasn't been in his crate since last week! He's really matured since I've had him. He's so smart and so eager to please that I really didn't think it would take him too long before he would have full house privileges!

DP, thanks for the info in Newfies! I love the black and white ones, but I never knew that they had spots on their legs! Cool!

Awww, I love Cupcake! Pooh Bear has spots on his feet too.

Wow, I never realized that poodles looked like that if they shaved everything! You learn something new every day! :shocked!:

She said that uncropped ears are usually frowned on in American show rings (but there are some) And the winning Dobe at the Crufts dog show last March had natural ears.

Today my very good friend had to have her 17 year-old Shitzu/Lhasa mix (Gizmo) put to sleep. He had been going downhill for a while. He was blind and mostly deaf, and his legs didn't work too well any more. She adopted him when he was very young, so she's had him almost his whole life. She said that when she's ready, she wants me to help her find a young adult small dog to adopt. She has a cat also, and she said that her cat is moping around today and looking very confused. So sad. But now Gizmo can see and hear and run and jump and have fun!

Sizzle Dog posted these pictures of natural-eared Dobes on her thread about stacking. This is how the Dobes look in new Zealand: This is the sire of one of her dogs (in America):

Are you going to show your Dobe? If not, why don't you leave her ears natural? I think Dobes with natural ears look great (better than with cropped ears in my opinion). If you're not going to show, I don't see the point in putting her through the surgery.

I'm so sorry you lost Bongo. But now he's running and playing with all the Dogo dogs who are all healthy now!

The next time you do a puppy class, you just better get some pictures! You can't go and talk about puppies and not show us any pictures! That's cruel and unusual punishment!

There is a similar way of thinking as to castrating horses. People used to think that gelding stallions too young would stunt their growth. But in fact the opposite has been proven true. I also agree with Rott as to spaying and neutering dogs early.
I would let him play with it, but when he's alone, i would take it from him if you feel uncomfortable....
Ditto to that!

If any of you saw the movie "The Black Stallion," the horse in the movie (Cass Ole) actually had a star and four white socks. They dyed his white markings for the movie so that he looked totally black. If you look really, REALLY close in the head shots in The Black Stallion, you can still faintly see his star. Most of the dyes they used were so strong, Cass had allergic reactions to them. If they weren't strong enough, in the water scenes, they washed off. It was a "catch 22"! Cass also had somewhat of a shaved bridle path in the movie and they had to hand sew mane hair into his natural mane so he appeared to be completely desertbred. He had been a show horse for years, hence, the shaved bridle path. Here's a picture of him showing his white markings: Here's a picture of him with his markings dyed:

10 Puppies.. all dead... at the same time, PLEASE HELP!

Ditto to everyone else. -
I think it would be a very good idea to get her leg x-rayed to make sure there aren't any fractures or other serious problems.

Good job ESS! I give you an A!

Tonight is Pooh Bear's first worknight out of his crate!
JackieMaya replied to JackieMaya's topic in Everything about dogs
Tonight will be Pooh Bear's third night of freedom from the crate! It looks like he's matured enough that he's definitely earned his freedom! Yippee! And I just love seeing their three faces looking out the window at me when I get home! Today I took ALL THREE puppers to Petsmart! It was raining all day, so they didn't want to spend much time outside. So on to Petsmart we went! Once we got our act together after getting out of the car, they were just great! I had a harness on Pooh Bear so that he could keep his no-bite collar on. I let him ride in the front passenger seat with a seat-belt thingamabob attached to his harness. The girls rode in the back seat. One of the Petsmart employees sat on the floor at the end of the check-out counter and scratched Jackie's and Maya's bellies after they laid down. The three kids were a big hit there! Pooh Bear saw a huge picture of a cat on the wall at Petsmart and started growling at it and slowly moving forward toward it. He thought it was a HUGE cat! LOL -
I dont know how to wrap it up! Any ideas?
How about "love and kisses." :buzi:

Hey Kes, this is Pooh Bear. If you think that was bad, you should see what they did to me! Someone shaved off all the hair on my butt and then they let me take a nap. When I woke up, my leg didn't work right and there were girlie pink threads on my butt! On the way home from the hospital I thwowed up in the car (but my mom wasn't mad). Then my mom made me wear a lampshade on my head. But then I couldn't pull out those pink threads that were in my butt. I'm a boy! I'm not supposed to have pink threads in my butt! After I chewed up the lampshade, then my mom put this wide thing on my neck. I think she's trying to make my neck longer. Why else would she put that on me? Whenever I bark at the squirrels in our yard, my mom makes me come inside. It must be so that I can stay by her and make her feel safe from the squirrels. I know my mommy wuvs me because she's always petting me and scratching my tummy and telling me she loves me. And my big sister, Jackie, and I like to howl together when we hear a siren go by. That makes my mommy laugh. My other big sister, Maya, and I like to play together, and when I sit on her head, my mommy laughs. My mommy laughs a lot at me and my sisters. Does your mommy laugh at you? I hope they don't stick any more of those sharp needles in you! Give your mommy a big sloppy puppy kiss from me! love and kisses, Pooh Bear

Isn't it just amazing the damage one dog can do to a house if they feel like it? -
Cinco made pet of the week!

Yay for Cinco! Now he's a star! -
No cropped ears in NZ?
I like to see that. Nothing against you Sizzle, because I know that's what's expected in dog shows in the U.S. But I just prefer seeing dogs in their natural state. At the last Crufts show, the winning Dobe had natural ears.
BTW - sheep do feel pain and any farmer who uses a shearer who cuts the sheep needs his head read - no professional shearer who puts 'huge cuts' on the animal would last two minutes.
I agree with this. My sister breeds show-quality sheep that she sells to 4-H kids as show lambs. She used to do the shearing herself, but she just has too many irons on the fire, so she has someone come in to do it. I've never seen cuts from the shearing, either when she did it or when she has the professional shearer come in to do it.
