1. I ripped up all the carpeting in my house and just put carpeting on one stairway going downstairs. Otherwise, my house is all either hardwood or vinyl, and cement downstairs. My dogs don't have any problem at all. Your dog will get used to it. Believe me, you won't miss the carpeting! You could put non-slip rugs in the doorways so that he doesn't slide going in and out the door. But I don't think he'll have any problem.
2. I typed up a long email to the rescue shelter that I adopted my three puppers from tonight thanking them for all that they do in rescuing animals and fostering them until they find forever homes, and also in taking care of Pooh Bear's surgical costs, and attached a bunch of photos of the kids. Then I tried to send it, and it came back saying it was undeliverable. Then I tried again, and it came back again. I used the email addy that's on their website. I'm going to call them tomorrow and see if they have a different email addy. I've wanted to send them an update on the three kids and a thank you with pictures for a while now, and now I finally got around to doing it and it comes back. Well, at least it's still in my "sent" folder so I can just forward that to the correct addy hopefully tomorrow.
3. Great new on Laurel! That must be real tough trying to bring along a dog with confidence problems, or one with no socialization. I've never had either problem with any dogs I've had. Laurel's lucky she found you!
4. Well, Bernie isn't on the website any more, so it looks like he's been adopted! I hope he got a wonderful forever family!
5.
Is it true that dogs have no sense of time?
It sure doesn't seem like it! Sometimes I'll walk out the door and realize I forgot something. When I go back in, it's as if I've been gone for hours! They're just as excited as if I had been gone to work all evening.
6. Wow, Felicia, I would be very upset with your friends too! When you tell someone not to let your dog loose, they're NOT supposed to let your dog loose. Canis gave you some very good advice. One of my dogs, Maya, is half Husky, so she definitely has the roaming instinct. She has to be on a cable when I let her out in our fenced yard because she will jump the fence and take off. She pretty much stays on the next block, but I live close to several busy streets, so there's no way I'll take the chance on letting her loose and having her hit by a car. And when she has jumped the fence, she just has SO much fun that she won't come up to me. I have to go get her in my car, and that still takes a little while. I agree that it would be great if Nassa could run loose. She could get more exercise and I'm sure it would be more fun. But it's just not worth the possibility of her getting hurt or lost or whatever. Good luck with your pretty girl!
7. You could always check the Better Business Bueau. I think they could tell you how much is used for the actual shelter.
8. Okay, the Google translator translated the intro paragraph better than the first translator I tried (but it's not as funny).
"With exception of the Akita, there is no another dog that understands the feelings of its master" --Helen Keller Welcome to the Special one of Akita, we invited to nevegar and to discover to him to this Great Race
9. Here's the website that I did a Google translation on. It should at least give you the general idea.-LOL http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.perrosdemexico.com.mx%2Fespeciales%2Fakita%2Fhistoria.html&langpair=es%7Cen&hl=en&ie=ISO-8859-1&oe=ISO-8859-1&prev=%2Flanguage_tools
10. Here is the "official" translation. LOL! I gave myself another asthma attack when I read this. I think the translation leaves a little to be desired. LOL. You think I should get a job as a translator? :niewiem: ******************
The Akita With exceptional
11. I checked back today to see if there was any more information, and there wasn't. Very sad.
12. Sugar, I just have to comment again on how absolutely beautiful your Collies are! They're just gorgeous!
13. While we're talking about doggie shampoo, what would be a good shampoo to use on Pooh Bear? The skin on his butt is flaky where the hair is growing back after being shaved for his surgery. I suppose some type of moisturizing shampoo? Anyone have any good recommendations for that? At least he's not itchy.
14. I've never had a dog with separation anxiety, but I agree with Court about saying the same thing every time when you leave and when you come back. I've always done that with all of my dogs. One time when I had to leave Jackie and Maya at the kennel, they took Maya back first, and then when they went to take Jackie back, she didn't want to leave me and was whining and pulling back on the leash. Then I said "Jackie, I have to go to work now," and turned and walked out of her line of sight. Then she was okay and walked right back with them and was fine, because that's what I always say when I leave to go to work. Everytime I leave for work, I always say "I have to go to work now," and they know that I'll be gone for about 8-9 hours. If I'm just going to the store or something like that, I say "I won't be gone very long." Then they hang around in the living room and know that I'll be back in a few hours. Those are the two things I say when I leave. And every time I come home, when I open the door (this is kind of silly), I say "Who's there? Oh, it's Jackie, Maya and Pooh Bear." And if Jackie has something in her mouth (which is 95% of the time when I come home), I say "Look at what Jackie has!" and she gets all wiggly and silly. So my kids are used to my good-byes and hellos and I think it's a comfort to them to hear the same things and know what they mean. I always wave hello and good-bye to my pups when they're in the window too (I'm sure my neighbors think I'm nuts), but I don't know if that would be the best thing for a dog with separation anxiety or not. I also leave a t.v. on when I'm gone (usually on Animal Planet).
15.
I groomed this dog, he'd been coming to my work since he was like 5-6 months. Im so upset right now, for the dog, for the owner. He was such a great dog. Im gonna miss him. :( :( :( http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/articles/2005/06/25/neighbor_is_charged_in_killing_of_pit_bull/
Please tell D-Bo's owner that all of us at Dogo were horrified by the story and very saddened at the loss of such a beautiful dog.
16. There are so many things that I could call my favorites about each of my puppers that it's hard to pick one, but here goes: My favorite thing about Jackie is how wiggly and smiley she gets when I come home. She HAS to have something in her mouth when she greets me, even if it's a tiny little piece of paper. And when I say "Look at what Jackie has!" she almost wiggles right out of her skin. My least favorite thing about Jackie is that because she's an extremely well-behaved dog and she gets a lot of privileges the other two don't get, she flaunts it. I let her be off leash when we're at the lake, and she'll jump back and forth from the water to the shore. Of course, Maya wants to jump out too, but she's on a check cord. My favorite thing about Maya is how cuddly she is. She's a very touchy-feely-leaner doggie My least favorite thing about Maya is that I can't trust her off leash. My favorite thing about Pooh Bear is how cuddly he is and his puppy curiosity which REALLY shows in his face. He's my little shadow and follows me everywhere. My least favorite thing about Pooh Bear is, of course, the barking at squirrels. I actually could go on and on about all my favorite things about my three dogs, but there really aren't too many things about any of them that I don't like.
17. Jackie might start out on the bed with me, but she doesn't stay because she prefers to sleep alone. If you pet her, she won't fall asleep On the other hand, Maya and Pooh Bear like to be petted as they're falling asleep. Sometimes one or both of them will sleep with me. They both like to be touching me when they're sleeping. They all like to sleep on the furniture, beds, and floor, depending on how warm they get I suppose.
18. That story is awful enough for those of us who never knew him. I'm sorry the loss of your friend.
19. This article doesn't give much information, like who owns the pit bulls, why they were out, if they were provoked, etc. http://www.kstp.com/article/stories/S8983.html?cat=1 ******************** Hero saves dog attack victim Teresa Catlin came by at the right time. She helped scare away one of two pit bulls who were mauling David Deziel alongside a road in Crow Wing County last week. She saw Deziel was in trouble and stopped her van. Catlin told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS she armed herself with her flashlight and scared one of the dogs away. The other pit bull grabbed hold of Deziel's face. It wasn't until authorities arrived when that dog was shot and killed. Deziel estimates he was being attacked for 30 minutes before help arrived. He suffered 200 puncture wounds all over his body. He is recovering at Hennepin County Medical Center. Deziel says while he's thankful Catlin stopped to help, he is not sure he would have done the same for someone else. "He's the one who hung on, you know and he's the true hero...I was just put in the right place at the right time by God," said Catlin. 20. I started a new thread in "Pictures" for pictures of everyone's porno dogs! ("You show me yours; I'll show you mine")
21. Here's my porno dogs: Jackie and Maya and Pooh Bear
22.
JM, you'd seriously better stop looking at that website!
No kidding! I don't know why I do this to myself!
23. I thought I heard that dogs that sleep on their backs all the time is a sign of good hips. Well, all three of my kids sleep on their backs, but ESPECIALLY Pooh Bear! He sleeps on his back all the time with his back legs spread wide open.
24. I think that a great way to get education and training for being a dog trainer is by apprenticing with a reputable professional dog trainer. I have no idea about any of the schools, so I have no advice about those. And if you "require about $75K" for income, you'd better check out another profession.
25. I can already see that this is going to get very confusing! LOL Anywho, your feline animal is very pretty!
