My dogs would never go in a puddle (unless it was in their way). -

Kat, what a beautiful happy girl! Great smile! LOL -
The shelter where I got my three kids has a litter of Australian Cattle Dog/Beagle puppies, and they're the coolest color! Aren't they just adorable? I talked to my friend, Dawn, tonight and she said that Red was just wonderful on the ride home from my place to her place. And he took a nap with her on the couch. She said that he gets a little nervous if you stare at him (like all new dog owners do). She said that he's THE ONE. I'm just thrilled! -

Oh what a ferocious animal! LOL When Jackie talks, she uses growly talk. The first time my youngest nephew heard her do that he said "Jackie was growling at me!" Jackie also doesn't have a mean bone in her body. But someone who didn't understand dogs might think that she was growling (of course they would have to ignore the wiggly butt and the whirlybird tail). -

Actually, I think most small dogs act tougher than big dogs! Kind of like short man's disease. -
WOW look at that little muzzle. How adorable! Your friend is pure class. She fosters a child and has the gorgeous piano.... have her join in pleeze pleeze! Edited for typoids :drinking:
I agree that my friend is pure class, but the girl in the picture is Red's foster mom's daughter, not my friend's foster daughter. LOL! And the gorgeous piano was at Red's foster home. The whole house was absolutely gorgeous! And I agree about having her join Dogo. I'll work on that one. She's coming down to the Dogo get together in September with me too! So I guess she'll just HAVE to join! :) -

This is an old thread, but now I can participate! As of 11 days ago, I have an Aussie mix named Pooh Bear! He's black and tan with some white. Do purebred Australian Shepherds come in that color? I'm just amazed at how smart he is and how eager to please he is, and how happy he is!
he sound like a black tri to.the are black with white and tan points (copper)
Oh, I just love the color of that Aussie! Similar to the coloring of a Berner. Here is Pooh Bear, my Aussie mix. Court, I'm so glad that Free is home! Even though on house arrest, at least she's home. My dad used to go hunting, but I've never even shot a gun. I would love to go to a shooting range sometime and see how I do. But I've never had an interest in getting guns or getting certified. It's sure good that you did!
you have another Meg y'know......   good jobs, both Kes AND Kat....I dont think its a coincidence that Kes is becoming as good as you trained Meg. 8)
A big ditto to that! Congratulations! But I'm sorry to hear about Meg. Poor girl doesn't deserve to get treatment like that.

Red is just the CUTEST little thing! I just love him! We were both crying when she got him. I'm just so happy for both of them. She's been so lost without her other dog, and I know she's going to give him the most wonderful forever home he could ever find. He's very sweet, and not as shy as I was expecting him to be from what they said on the website. He's been at the foster home for 3 weeks, and the daughter REALLY wanted to keep him, but they're already over their city quota of dogs. Here are some pictures: My friend is on the right with Red, and the foster's daughter is on the left with one of their own dogs. I found a dog for my friend who had to put her 17 year-old Lahsa/Shitzu boy down in May. And we're going to pick him up in about a half hour! I found him at the same shelter I got my three kids from. His name is Red and he's a 3 year-old Shitzu/Pug cross. He was there with his brother, but his brother got adopted right away because he was cuter. Red is kinda goofy looking, but my friend is just in love with him. He's very shy (which her former dog was when she got him). He weighs 10 pounds. I'm going to take pictures when we go get him and will post them when I get back. See ya! Here's a picture of Red!

Poor Free. I hope they let her come home soon. If a coon was attacking one of my dogs, I wouldn't have a problem with killing it either. I'm with Lucky Chaos. Since you brought the coon in, shouldn't they be able to test it for rabies so that Free can go home?

Jackie and Maya got into a fight last night. I was in the bathroom with the door open, and everyone had a toy in their mouth. Jackie was in the bathroom doorway, and then she went over to the futon, which Maya was lying next to. Then all of a sudden they were fighting. I hit them over their heads with a pillow to make them stop. Maya got a puncture on the bottom of her foot, in between the pads, and Jackie got a couple of punctures on her muzzle, right above her nose. Since their injuries obviously weren't life-threatening, and they both stopped bleeding, I didn't take them to the emergency vet last night. The two girls literally kissed and made up last night too, and were lying next to each other. They really love each other, but once in a great while (about 4 or 5 times in 3 years) one of them will piss the other one off and they'll get in a fight, just like sisters. But Maya was still limping today so I took her to my my vet this afternoon. He gave me some Panalog ointment to put on her owie and Jackie's owie twice a day, pain pills for Maya and antibiotics for both of them. The vet said that to save money I didn't have to bring Jackie in after I described her wounds. Jackie's nose is a little puffy, but she's not in any discomfort. Then I took Maya to Petsmart and let her check stuff out, and so I could buy two bark collars and more dog food. So I ended up spending over $300 on my puppers today. But some good news is that Maya has lost 10 pounds from her highest weight (which is good)! She was up to 85 pounds, and now she weighs 75 pounds, which is the perfect weight for her. The last time Jackie was weighed (when she had her anal glands expressed) she had lost 4 pounds (from 90 to 86), and she's probably lost a little more since then. So we're all getting in shape!

The barking has gotten out of control!
JackieMaya replied to JackieMaya's topic in Everything about dogs
refresh my memory JM have you tried the citronella collar? i know you have tried many things in your quest to quiet the dogs, but i can't remember if citronella was one of them. if not you could try that before you go all the way with shock. is the barking as bad if you let your dogs out one at a time?
The three dogs have so much fun playing together and hanging out together that I really don't want to have to put them out one at a time. And if the squirrels are in the trees chirping away, Pooh Bear will bark like crazy even if he's the only one out there. I'm out with them the whole time they're outside. I've been going up to them and making them come to the house when they bark. I have a big yard, so I've been doing a lot of walking back and forth, and then they end up starting up again anyway. -

I tried the citronella collar on both dogs, and it worked on Maya longer than it worked on Pooh Bear, but now Maya ignores the spray. I also tried a sonic anti-bark collar on Pooh Bear that would emit a high-pitched sound when he barked, and that didn't work long either. I'm also planning on switching back and forth between the shock collar and the sound only collar and the citronella collar. That way they'll always get a "special" collar on, so hopefully after getting a few "corrections" with the shock collar, just getting a "special" collar on will work. Their barking has even been driving me nuts, so I'm sure the neighbors aren't thrilled either. I haven't gotten any new complaints, so I definitely want to try to put a stop to the noise before I get any complaints. By the way, my sister used a shock collar on her three Irish Setters who all barked a lot. She just got one collar, and switched dogs every day. After each of them had been shocked by the collar, once the sound went off, no matter which one was wearing the collar, they would all stop barking. Hopefully it'll be that way for Maya and Pooh Bear. Believe me, the shock collar is a last resort. -
I REALLY hate to do it, but I'm going to have to resort to a shock collar for Maya's and Pooh Bear's barking outside. Their barking has really gotten out of control. And the two dogs feed off each other when one starts barking. They get barking at the little yappy dog in the yard behind us and Pooh Bear goes nuts barking at the squirrels. Hopefully I'll be able to have the collars on just the sound correction very soon. They're both smart dogs, and should both figure out very quickly that barking is NOT a good thing to do. I'm trying VERY hard to be a considerate neighbor with my dogs, and I need to nip the problem in the bud now before I get any complaints or visits from the cops. Jackie doesn't bark outside, so I don't need to get her a special collar.
Grrrr...about some thinking shelter dogs are defective. I've noticed that myself. An excuse I've heard time and again is "why would I want someone elses problem?". I hate that!
Yeah, that chaps my a$$ when I hear that! I've had so many people tell me they can't believe how wonderful my three shelter dogs are. Most people seem to think that shelter dogs are bad dogs when actually most of them have just been surrendered because of a change of mind of their stupid owner. -
For the Boxer lovers - Look what Merlins breeder got!!!
JackieMaya replied to Aroura's topic in Boxers
Merlin is getting to be such a big boy! I just LOOOOOOOOOOVE his coloring! And I love his tail! I'm another one who doesn't believe in docking tails or cropping ears. I like to see dogs with the parts they were born with (except of course the reproductive parts).
