as far as what SH&&&*&*girl says I'm with DAL....I wish there was a way to block posts by certain ppl.....advice from someone like that is like getting advice on breeding from a puppy broker!!

Why don't you spell it out? I'm not stupid, I know your talking about me. And my past has nothing to do with what I know about dogs.. I'm not the perfect owner, no one here is.. And I still think any dog labeled as Tea Cup is bad news..

ok guys? I dont see anywhere where DAL said she wanted a "teacup" dog, just a small one. Chi's Yorkshire's, Papillions, will fit in your purse. A big purse, yes, but still...

anyone remember the ads for Rufus? the Zyrtec dog? he fit in a purse. a big purse, yes, but still a purse. and he was not a teacup dog...

DAL, I didn't follow any of the links that pwrpufgrlz (sp?) provided but did you? I love petfinder.org from what I've seen so far ... I bristle when someone says they're goinng to "go out and buy" a dog, pup, cat, whatever ... and I don't think that is YOU at all!!! JUST my 2 cents.
LOL WOOHOO!!!!!! puppy shopping!!!! tea cup chi lol or somethign really small
It was in a different thread. I happened to remember it and just brought it up, I honestly wasn't trying to start anything. But DAL has posted a few times here and basically said she'll do what she wants even if it means buying from a BYB. I can't stop her, no one can, but we were trying to help and educate. If I am wrong then I will apologize.

I think there may just be a difference in perception. Sometimes people think "teacup" meaning a really small dog when it really refers to "toy." Hopefully, this is just a case of, what, mistaken identity?

DAL, I don't think anyone means to come off as personally attacking you. I think that we, as a group (which includes you  ), are generally very pro-rescue and people tend to bristle when they think someone might be planning to support poor breeding practices (which deliberately breeding/buying "teacups" would be). I'm not saying I believe that about you at all at this point... just saying I can understand the "alarm." I just don't have a mental image of you as being someone who would support suffering.

I give you a lot of credit for having intelligence, so I'm sure you'll buy or adopt responsibly. I think it's just a difference in perception... some people perceive toys to be teacups and vice versa. I hope it's just a simple misunderstanding.

Now...

I don't typically worry about the difference in sizes of my dogs in the house. I have dogs ranging from my Toy Poodlet (7-9ish lbs) all the way up to Standard Poodles, a Lab and a Dobe in the house. I've not had many problems with the smaller ones getting trampled, at least by other dogs (can't say I haven't trampled them a time or two  ).

I love being able to put my little Peanut Poodlet in a "purse" and take her anywhere. My vet recently opened this really NICE specialty store that carries all sorts of pet related items and they have the neatest little dog purses with the vents and all that fancy jazz. I almost thought of splurging and getting one, but I'm making due with my catch all bag for now.

Good luck and I hope you find the portable dogger of your dreams. I'm kind of partial to *ahem*cough* Yorkies. 8)
My 2 cents.... is there any posibility that you can adopt a small breed dog instead of buy one?... i know whatever you decide, your new dog will be so happy with you.
i haven't read allt he posts. just to let you all know. you ALL jumped the gun thinkin iw as getting a dog from a breeder or BYB
well for your information Baileysmom and i were heading to the POUND.
i thought you all knew me. both my dogs are rescues from the pound/rescue group
The fact is ...that these dogs are out there...and the term "tea cup" could just means more than a BYB term. People often consider dogs under 7 lbs tea cups...this doesnt mean they aren't akc or ckc or a recognized breed...i.e a Yorkshire Terrier...(which is what I was going to suggest Dal..) You guys really need to give Naomi much more credit than you are....she isn't going to buy a dog from a puppy mill....come on....sit back and digest what she was saying...and as far as what SH&&&*&*girl says I'm with DAL....I wish there was a way to block posts by certain ppl.....advice from someone like that is like getting advice on breeding from a puppy broker!!

Now...how bout that Yorkie?...very cute, little and tons of personality :)
Thank you Scotty. and a Yorkie is one of the breeds i was thinking about they are super cute with a personality to go with it!

DAL,

You get a third dog first, and let me know how it goes, k?

We are thinking about a third addition. With the two boys (120 lbs and 115 lbs) we want to add a Chinese Crested. Like you, I want a tiny dog! I grew up with small dogs (lhasas) and I miss them! I love the Cresties....so why not??

So let me know how it goes....then I'll follow, k? :D

Why didn't you say in your first post that you were going to a pound instead of saying stuff like this
but again, if i want a dog i'm gonna get a dog. if i want a certain breed, im gonna get a certain breed.
didnt' expect such a negative feed back.
What if the pound doesn't have the "breed" your looking for then what??

Thank you DO, HF and Scotty.
i am not goign to buy a dog froma BYB you all know me better then that maybe i had the term wrong and should have said toy dog ..
i want a small dog and i am already looking on petfinder and will look at the popund once justin has left .. Baileysmom and I plan on doing that so no worried about me going to a BYB. AND i think yorkies are really cute and i'm partical to a long haird Chi.. poms are cute cute they can tend to get a little bigger then what i'm looking for. my mom's is like 14 pounds. i was looking more in the 4-8 pound range something i can bring with me and have it not weigh down my purse so that i have more back problems ;)

I apologize for mis-reading you, but it would have been a lot easier to tell us that instead of posting
gee thanks for you opnion. but again, if i want a dog i'm gonna get a dog. if i want a certain breed, im gonna get a certain breed.
didnt' expect such a negative feed back.
I just don't understand why you would say this and not tell us in the first place! I still stand by what I said about teacup dogs, but if you going to the pound thats great. I wish you luck finding your next best friend.

Ok guys, I'm not trying to gang up on anyone, but could we just drop this? Dal says shes not going to a breeder of any kind, so she wont! Maybe you mis understood her before. It's over! Lets all just be happy for her! :D :bday:

DAL: Dear I wish you luck. I hope that perfect pup is waiting at a pound or rescue for you. Or maybe even an adoption day.

I also hope you don't have nosy by the book neighbors.

Good luck to you.

And for the record...the weights of my dogs are

130
50
40
35
30
30
20
7

The 130, 40 and one of the 30 pound dogs don't go around the 7 pounder because they are pups and are rough with him.

The 50, 35 and 20 pounds are allowed arround him. The 20 pounder is Mac but he is respectful and careful around CJ.

DAL, that little black dog in your link is super super cute. I'm a big dog person, but seeing a cute little dog like that gets me thinking...

But then reality sets in and I realize that my one dog is all I can handle right now in grad. school.

Anyway, hope you find the perfect little guy/girl!

Congratulations on bringing in a new dog! Good luck with your search!

I'm relatively new here... so I'm not trying to take sides at all. I'm just adding some perspective. :)

Anyway, I have 3 papillons and one lab/pit mix. Having large dogs and small dogs is not easy. :( My 8 pound papillon was BUMPED by my 65 pound lab/pit and it damaged his patella. I cannot stress how fragile these little dogs are. :(

I also go to dog shows almost every weekend and am constantly seeing perfectly friendly dogs jump to play with a toy dog and severely hurt them. Even quiet older large dogs are still capable of hurting small dogs completely by accident. I never can allow my big dog to play with the toys. Even though she loves them and protects them, she forgets they weigh 3-8 pounds and sometimes a nudge with her nose sends them flying. I constantly am supervising their time together even if it's just sleeping. Had I realized how nerve wracking this is, I would have never brought my first papillon into the house.

I have to say with my three toys, I wanted to stick them in my purse and cart them around also. LOL And as puppies, I got away with it! They loved it! As they got older and more of a personality, they hated being in a purse. They hated strangers ooo-ing and ahh-ing over them 24/7. :( They wanted to get on the ground and romp. I'm guilty of trying to dress them up and stick them in a bag to show off... let me tell you, the dog quickly tires of it and wants to be a dog. They want to pee on the mailbox post, and trample through the mud. ;)

I think it's a very noble thing for you to do to bring in another rescue. :) I would just be extremely careful when you do bring one in. Would a sheltie be too big for your liking? They are still small, however they will hold up a lot more than a toy will if they're bumped during play.

Good luck and I hope you find what your heart desires!
