1. yeesh! I wonder what brought that on..:-? Good to know that all's well though
2. haha I feel lucky! Polo never had that problem when I had him :D Let us know how the trimming works out!
3. Ticks are the bane of my existence! At one point, Clea had every parasite known to our garden latched on to her, but since frontline all's clear! I'm actually due to reapply it today
4.
jeez i never knew i was such a tease! i thought about pics half way thru class too little too late. next time i will definitely get pics for ya! you realize we (dogo) are like crack hos for puppy pics (i mean that as a compliment)!
it is true   Your day sounds amazing! ohh the puppy breath :loveu:
5. a lot of people mistake Clea for a Lab!
6.
That color test scared the blank out of me! :o
I was so freaked out I jumped up and RAN to the kitchen! (don't know why, kitchen was my first reflex!)
7. Trading dogs for HAY? My how quaint. Her husband is an idiot, but shes an even BIGGER idiot for going along with it!@
8. I know this girl too-absoloutely RIDICULOUS. First of all she's spoiled ROTTEN, I mean there's nothing wrong with being privelleged but complaining because you don't like the color of your cadillac Escalade? When I heard she said that, I thought it was just her obsession of the moment, but after I found out she got the dog, i was SHOCKED. ok, nothing wrong with dyeing your dog's fur, or buying it gucci collars and what not, but the thing is, the list of reasons she wanted a pit, ends there. It saddens me to think that this dog will be obsessed over for 1 week, and then be ignored forever..because believe me it WILL happen.
9. good thinking JM  let us know how that goes!
10. Again, so sorry for all you're going through DAL, I can only imagine how hard it is, but IMO? Take Zoey with you, Cody, and Stryker. If when he gets back, Justin still wants her, then give her to him. I highly doubt he will be able to care for her properly, and given his situation, probably won't even want her.. wishing you the best!
11.

The whole tinkering around with Mother Nature is kind of a moot point don't you think? I mean the basis of selective dog breeding is outside of nature's design, there are only a hanfull of breeds out there that have any sort of a natural morphology. Just look at Bulldogs for a prime example, an animal that cannot regularly give birth unassisted is far far from anything natural. I'm not trying to be critical, I'm just raising the point that there are better reasons not to have unnecessary surgery performed on your pet. A better reason is to not increase exposure to anestesia risks. On a side note, back home in Calif we had a client who came to our clinic to have his dogs debarked. He bred beagles, and I don't know that you could call him a mill breeder because I think think he kept more puppies than he sold. Anyway about once or twice a year he would come in to have a handful of puppies debarked. A shame really, the dogs weren't problem barkers, the guy just wanted to save himsalf the trouble of having the possibility of loud beagles. The vet I worked for was by far the best in the area (outside UC Davis), but he could be rather unscrupulous at times.
That's sort of what I meant about people abusing it.. And I completely agree about the "tinkering with mother nature" issue. But I think what was meant was that debarking sort of tinkers with dogs in general's true nature. Dogs are MEANT to bark.. no matter the breed's authenticity
12. Clea, being a golden is a bird dog too, and has caught 2 birds since I got her thankfully both survived! She's very good with the "DROP IT!" command, I've found... She goes absolutely crazy for piegons! We'll just be walking along normally, when all of a sudden there's a violent *tug* as she tries to run after one!
13.
I've never been bitten.. but I was chased by a bull once. :o Okay, it was a young bull but it was still scary!
Chased by a bull? Please, go on...
14.

I also agree that while debarking may not be the most inhumane surgery out there, it seems like it is widely abused.
Really? How many dogs do you personally KNOW that have been debarked? While media hysteria would like you to believe debarking is widely abused, I highly doubt it is actually done that often. You can't believe everything you see on tv...
What I think nadooshkinz meant was that when people are given the option, they abuse it. It seems to me that people use it as a first resort instead of a last one.
That was my point exactly. And while were on that, the media "hysteria" focuses more on promoting debarking. But anyways, my reason for saying that was based on what I've read and researched, I don't believe everything I see on tv-don't worry I'm not that naiive  And to answer you're question, I don't personally know any dogs that have been debarked, only because its against the law here.
15. I've been bitten by a dog.. twice! :o (never really thought to count) First time was by our Pom Polo, he bit my hand, on the soft spot, sort of between your thumb and index finger, don't really remember why though  and the second time was when I first got Clea, she was sort of play fighting with the neighbour's dog, and i got bitten by her(neighbour's dog) whilst trying to seperate them when it got too rough..Again, on my thumb!
16. Definitely better than the police :) Let us know how that goes!
17. Sorry to hear that! But I'm sure Gilligan will have lots of fun, and at least you know he's in good hands
Oh I'm sorry that he is leaving but I'm sure he will have a wonderful time with your sister-in-law and playing in the garden. But think of it this way because once he is with your SIL that means you'll have room to take in another dog. :evilbat:
too too true!
18. Is a shock collar completely out of the question?
19.
The lady with the Shelties made me angry. She had FOUR of her dogs debarked and was really nonchalant about it as if it were no big deal. It really stuck out to me when she said something about it being a great alternative as a last resort. While I can kinda sorta see a point in that, how in the world did she need it as a last resort for FOUR dogs? I do think she did it as more of a convenience.
That woman absoloutely INFURIATED me! I highly doubt that debarking was a last resort in all 4 cases
Two: Debarking doesn't do the job reliably. I don't know any statistics but lots of times the procedure doesn't reduce the barking volume by a whole lot, and sometimes not at all.

Q: Is the surgery always successful? A: Sometimes scar tissue forms and heavy barkers will become louder than when first debarked. The skill of the veterinarian is also a factor.
I also agree that while debarking may not be the most inhumane surgery out there, it seems like it is widely abused. I don't believe that every dog that has ever been debarked was led to that after:- a)an attempt to train the dog not to bark. b)some control of exposure to the stimuli(if any), causing the dog to bark. c)the use of citronella bark collars, shock collars, or bark activated alarms.
20. Everything will be just fine JM  And can I just say, I really think its great that you're doing all of this for Pooh Bear, I can think of so many people who would do everything in their power to relinquish responsibility of him, but I'm so glad you aren't. :D Pooh Bear couldn't have a better mom
21. I'm sure there's been a post about this before, but I just saw this on the CBS news. Dog owners actually take their dogs in for a surgery called "debarking" in which the dog's vocal chords are cut, in order to soften his bark. When I heard the poor Collie bark, I was sick to my stomach  How could someone do that to a dog! Did anyone else catch the report? It terrifies me to think of ever doing something like that to my dog.. any thoughts?
22. Great news JM  the day I am fully able to walk 3 dogs will be one of great achievement!
23. Just wondering, who here on dogo owns a Beagle? :D If so, anything to say about the breed?
24. So sorry to hear that Shannon.. :( But he is in a better place now! RIP Zak  run free :)
25. Pics indeed! Good luck Kat! :D I love the feeling of seeing your puppy for the first time!
