1.

"we cannot be seperated" nonsense in the bud RIGHT NOW.
I think Crested means it's a jealousy issue mummy is outside with the new baby why can't I go to, it's my mummy
Well that could be. BUT that is not what she said. She said "everytime I let Bella out on our yard Ben panicks!" And "He screams from the top of his lungs when he sees Bella outside! " That, to me, says that she thinks he is freaking out over BELLA being outside and not MOMMY.
2. Well I could be way off base here but I would think there would not be a big demand for service dogs that the dissabled person would have to pay for. Most folks aren't made of money, and they very well may not be able to afford to buy a trained dog. My guess is that that is the reason most service dogs are free. I think if there was a market for selling service dogs, someone (More like a LOt of "someones") would already be doing it.
3. Ok, I will be the "odd man(or WOman in my case) out." :D I would NOT take them out together. Ben has GOT to learn that it is OK that he and Bella are seperated. They are NOT conjoined twins. And IMO, it is best if he learns that NOW rather than later. What happens if he is allowed to be with her 24/7 and for some reason later on, Bella has to go somewhere that he cannot go. (Say for instance the vet.) Best to nip that "we cannot be seperated" nonsense in the bud RIGHT NOW. If you are afraid that he is going to injure himself, crate him. (And for the other posters.) One reason "I" wouldn't take them out together is that Bella is probably "supposed" to be doing her "buisness" rather than playing. Which is what she would be doing if Ben was out there too. They would be playing and she would think that her trips outside were playtime rather than time to "go". I forgot to add. I would NOT bring Bella back in while Ben is "freaking out". All that will do is reinforce his behaviour.
4. I agree with the others as far as the sex thing. It is "usually" best to go with a dog of the opposite sex.. However, IMO it is "usually" best to wait on a second until the first is approx 2yo (at least). That way you are OUT of the "puppy stage". And have more time to devote to the new puppy. It is VERY tough and (IMO) AWEFULL to have 2 puppies at the same time. Not only that, but if they are very close in age, they will also be OLD at the same time. And it can be doubly hard when it is time to "let them go" to have to loose them both at close to the same time.
5. Believe me I know all about what SchH IS and ISN'T. I have been involved in GSDs, SchH, and Police K9s since the 70s. And I still say that your statement "a GSD will always protect its owner or handler at any costs." is NOT true. And the three phases of SchH are Tracking, Obedience, and Protection. Not Agility. (There is retrieving over jumps in the Obedience phase, but there is NO seperate Agility Phase.) Schutzhund was developed to test the GSD. And in Germany they MUST have either a SchH title OR an HGH title(Herding) before they can be bred. (As well as a conformation rating, breed survey and an AD. An AD is required BEFORE they can get their breed survey.)
6.
a GSD will always protect its owner or handler at any costs that is why there are so many shutzhund certified GSD
This statement is so NOT true! And just because a dog is Schutzhund titled does NOT mean that the dog will bite a person in "real life". They are trained to bite the sleave ONLY. And there are more SchH dogs that WON'T bite in real life than there are that will. There are a lot more GSDs (or any breed) that will NOT protect you from TRUE harm than there are that WILL. There are plenty that will run for the hills and leave you on your own. There are plenty of SchH titled Goldens, Labs, and even Border Collies. These dogs got SchH titles because they are highly trainable. Not because they are dogs that will protect their owners in "real life". A SchH titles does NOT mean the dog is a "Real" protection dog. Schutzhund is a SPORT.
7. You guys forgot: :( ACD = Australian Cattle Dog Aussie= Australian Shepherd :D
8. Breeds I've had: German Shepherds. (6 total.) 2 right now. A 5yo black female(spayed.) And a 7 month old black sable male. I also currently have a ACD/Aussie mix. 3yo male. He looks a lot like an ACD, But has a natural bob-tail and is Blue Merle(Like an Aussie.) 2 Catahoula Leopard Dogs. (Black Tri female and BLue Leopard Male.) Standard Schnauzer. She was an AWESOME obedience dog. Got 3 scores of 200 and one 199.5 in Obedience Competition. (The judge that gave her the 199.5 said that the reason she got that score is because he doesn't believe in a perfect 200.) When I was a kid we had mixes until I got my first GSD when I was 11. (One of the coolest mixes we had was a Boxer/GSD mix.) "Maybe someday", (Actually these are the ones I would choose from if I COULDN"T have a GSD or ACD.) Dutch Shepherd Caucasina Ovtcharka Beauceron Giant Schnauzer "When I am old and can't control a large dog", I would choose from these: Schipperke Cardigan Welsh Corgi Cavalier King Charles Tibetan Spaniel Norfolk Terrier
9. Coulee City. (I do all of my shopping in Moses Lake.) What breed/breeds of dogs do you have?
10. My guess would be no. Even IF you took your dog to a trainer, if the instinct isn't there, it just isn't there. Does your dog bark when someone comes to your house when you are home?
11. Amanda, Just wondering WHERE in Washington you are? I saw the EXACT same add in the paper yesterday. (I am about 40 miles North of Moses Lake.)
12. OK, I added my 2 German Shepherd Dogs to the list AND my 3 heelers. I also changed to to "heeler" (Blue and Red) :D since they are not seperate breeds just different colors. Shetland Sheepdog: 1 German Shepherd:3 Keeshonden: 3 Shiloh Shepherd: 1 Boxer: 1 Kelpie: 1 Labrador: 5 Mini Poodle: 3 Papillon: 1 Foxhound: 1 Standard Poodle: 2 Toy Poodle: 1 Lhasa Apso: 2 Mini Schnauzer: 1 Chihuahua: 1 Pit Bull: 1 1/2 Malamute: 2 Border Collie: 4 Maltese: 1 "Heeler" (Blue and Red.): 4 Samoyed: 1 Saint Bernard 2 Staffordshire Bull Terrier 2 British Bulldog 2
13. I agree with Mary's Mama. About the person that supposedly knows so much about the kibbles. For one thing, Nutro Nat. Choice has several different kinds. They are NOT all Lamb based. I wouldn't call the Chicken Rice and Oatmeal one Lamb.
14. Black GSD

Puppy food

I agree with Alicat about the food. I just wanted to add that you really shouldn't be letting her do any high jumping at her age. (I'm thinking that "jumping over the sofa" is NOT a good idea.)
15. Dog Paddle is EXACTLY right. The site I used to post the pictures went weird/away. (Not sure which.) At any rate. I will put some pictures on another site and start a new "types of GSDs" thread so the pictures will be on the first post. Hopefully I will get to it today.
16. Maybe next time he needs to get dog bit!!
17. Why not just keep all paper out of your dogs reach?
18. What I wondered first off is: Are those all dogs the OWN or just dogs they have bred?
19. No, I do not do yearly boosters. Just puppy shots.
20. Rosebud, I hope you see this. Sorry it took me so long to reply. I have been busy with my new pup and haven't been on the site lately. Anyway, there is no such thing as an Alsatian Shepherd. "Alastian" is what German Shepherds WERE called in, (I believe England and maybe other areas close to there.) Around WW2. They didn't want ANYTHING to so with anything associated with the Germans. So they changed the name The personality difference you see is just the difference in the breeding of the dogs. I have had several GSDs, including the 2 I have now, and they have ALL acted totally different.
21. ILUVMYDOG, I sent you a private message :D .
22. Check out this... http://www.vipoodle.org/WPindex.htm Hopefully the link will work. All I did was do a search for "Working Poodles". A LOT of links came up. Good luck in your search.
23. I agree with Hobbit, I would be afraid to use a Cat. on sheep. Those that I have had (I have had 3) and those that I have seen are WAY too rough. While you MAY be able to teach them to not be so rough, IMO you would be better off using with a breed that is not bred as much for their toughness. (Not to mention that Cats are VERY hard headed.) They aren't much for taking orders. They are more the type that you "turn them loose and let them do their thing". (I am talking about working stock or hunting critters here, NOT running the streets.) :D
24. I am a "dog person" that also like cats. I have had my current cat for 8 years now. She doesn't get on the counters or table, nor does she scratch on the furniture, and thinks she is a "dog". She follows me everywhere just like the dogs. Even when I am feeding the horses. She also "answers" when I call her or say her name.
