1.
For me it's the white dobie bit AND the 5 year old and 3 1/2 -4 year old having their own dogs, that they can BREED LATER IF THEY WANT TO. The whole idea just kind of skeeves me out. What 4 or 5 year old , or even if they wait til the wizened age of 9, is mature enough to handle or make that decision?
IMO, by the time those little kids are old enough to have a "clue" about breeding, those shelties will either be dead or too old. What about the fact that they are also breding some kind of mutts? Did everyone see that too??? And those Shelties, while they may be cute, are NOT good examples of the breed (Judging by the one picture of each on the site.) as far as being something that should be bred.
2. Personally I think, "If someone wants a smaller Border Collie, get a small Border Collie. That is a "No Brainer" as far as I am concerned. What ever happened to having a "smaller" dog (Like a JRT) on the team so that the jumps are shorter? That doesn't mean that all of the dogs have to be small. I guess I just don't understand peoples thinking. (I am not talking about you. I am talking about the individuals that breed MUTTS! No matter what their reason.) Personally I can see no RATIONAL reason for this. By the way, the breeders of the Poodle mixes TRY to rationalize their breedings too. Meaning as far as THEY are concerned, they breed the "poos" for a REASON.
3. NO, NO, NO! You are NOT mean for not wanting them to have one of your puppies. It would be mean (to the dog) to LET they buy one. IF they ask why you won't sell them a puppy I would tell them the TRUTH too.
4.
excuse me for asking, but how much do they cost?
How much do who cost? If you are talking about the Czech bred dogs. Most breeders sell their pups from Imported , titled sire and dam, for $1200 and UP. Though you can find dogs that are from Czech breeding such as import grandparents for $800 and up.
5. Believe ME! I know all about Poopsicles. Only here they are "Horse poopsicles". The dogs don't mess in the horse poop in the summer. But when it is frozen they LOVE it. :-? Thank dog they don't try to bring it in the house!
6. Sounds to me like you aren't doing anything wrong. Might just be a tough one to teach her. Keep up with the practice. I would also work with her without the other dogs around. She needs to concentrate on YOU not what the other dogs are doing.
7. Gooey, Have you tried sitting on the ground when you are playing fetch with her? It may be easier to get her to start putting it in your hand since she is so short. It is much easier for my dogs since they are a fair amount taller. When they walk up to me their mouth is AT hand height.
8. Gooey, I would NEVER let her play with the dumbell. It is for "work" only. If you use a toy as a reward, just use her usual reward toy. The dumbell is NOT for "playing and chomping on". You do NOT want her to learn to "mouth/chew on/chomp on , the dumbell. She should hold it with NO mouth movement. I would have her in a "sit". Afterall she will HAVE to be in a sit before you take it, if you do decide to show her. If she won't take if from you while sitting in front of you, I would put it in her mouth. Even if you have to pry her mouth open. (I mean the old pinch the lips against the teeth until she opens her mouth. Just open her mouth with one hand and say fetch while you put it in her mouth. HOPEFULLY she will just take it from yu. You dont' want her to decide this is no longer fun. I have had 1 dog that had to be "forced" to retrieve. She had ZERO desire to fetch. BUT< she ended up the BEST retrieving dog I have EVER seen. She would fetch ANYTHING and EVERYTHING I told her too. She even used to fetch the kitchen garbage can. (You know the the regular ones that are about 2 feet tall.) Of coarse she was a German Shepherd so she was big enough).
9.
PS I think that the strange poster is just trying to make a pest of themselves, perhaps we should avoid feeding the wildlife.
I think so too. QUITE annoying. Also to Daisysmom, Is she the type of puppy that uses her feet alot. Meaning does she paw at things? Some dogs are VERY easy to teach certain tricks. Especially if they do the required behaviours themselves. The 2 "heeler" we have now are the first 2 dogs I have ever had that will "roll over" on command. BUT when they were puppies they were always rollong over on their own. What are you doing to try to teach her to "shake'"?
10.
Kavik is very kong motivated and we just wouldn't throw it till he brought it right to our hand. We did hold our hand out to him, below his mouth and say drop to start. Unfortunately we started this training in doors. Kavik will return to hand freqently (paticularly if I'm watching tv) in the house but never outside.
This is the same thing I do with my "recreational retrievers". (As in fetch for fun and exercise instead of for obedience competition.) If they don't put it in my hand, I WILL NOT throw it again. They catch on pretty fast. But my dogs are VERY high in prey drive. Don't know if Annie is or not. So she may not really care if the game ends.
11. I didn't realize she was a Dachshund. THANK DOG I have tall dogs. lol Anyway. YES, they do have to deliver the dumbell and hold it until you take it from them. And you CAN bend down to take it from her. Will she take the dumbbell if you hand it to her? If so I would hand it to her, say "Fetch" (Or the command of your choice), then take it back (tell her "Out", "Give" or whatever command you use) then "good". You just have to make sure you take it BEFORE she has a chance to spit it out. If she tries to spit it out immedately before you have a chance to take it back, hold her mouth shut for a second then take it back. Gradually increase the time she has to hold it before you take it. I wouldn't let her retrieve with the dumbbell until AFTER she is reliable about holding it. You don't want her to learn that it is OK to spit it out. Is this making sense?
12. Are you just trying to have her hand it to you so you don't have to bend over, OR are you training for a "purpose"? (Meaning are you wanting to compete with her?) The reason I ask is that "I" go about it differently depending on the reason. (Make Sense?)
13.
A pup can start learning things as soon as you're ready to teach them  . You have to remember though, that at first it will seem like a lot of repetition to get nowhere. Keep the training sessions short, and fun for both of you.
BINGO!!! :D :D I have had puppies that could sit and down EVERYTIME they were told by the time they were 10 weeks. Seems to me that tricks take a little longer since they are not "Natural" dog behaviour. (Meaning that you do not see an untrained dog in the yard "shaking hands" but you DO see them sitting there.) Keep working with her. She will "get it" eventually. How are you training her? By "Force" or with treats?
14. Black GSD

need some help

Why not just put one in a crate while you work with the other?
15. I forgot to say before, lots of people use beef liver too. We used to boil it, them bake it. BUT, it will stink up your whole house. Smells REALLY bad. That is why I prefer hotdogs.
16. Humbolt. It is actually better if you use people food. A LOT of folks use hotdogs. Chicken is also good. Just make the bites small. (The size that she wan just swallow without chewing.) You want her to be able to "scarff" up the treat, not have to take time to chew it.
17. Well, of the names listed, I like Lexis the best. I also really like Luna for a black female dog. BUT without a picture, it is hard to choose the best name for your new girl! :D
18. Personally I like prong collars a LOT better than a choke chain. You can give an MUCH lighter correction with a prong and get the same result than with a heavier correction on a choke chain.. That said, That trainer is a IDIOT. ( Just my opinion.) Your dog is a PUPPY. It is too young for those types of corrections. Puppies need "positive" reinforcement, NOT serious correction. Personally, I would use a flat regular collar, lots of treats and praise on a young puppy. The time for corrections is AFTER they have already learned the necessary commands. When the dog KNOWS the commands and then REFUSES to comply, THAT is the time to start with the corrections. You will have a much happier dog this way. :D
19. Here is a picture of Zany when she was about a year old. She had filled out since then.
20. If you go to the females page, then click to go their individual pages. On some of them it says "offspring", There are some really good pics there.
21. The mothers name is Zany. She isn't on their site yet. She is fairly new to them. If you want, I can post a picture of her too. She is due approx. Feb 9th.
22. The breeder I am getting mine from is at www.vandenheuvelk9.com Just about as far from you as you can get. lol I lived in SC for 3 years from 1985 to 1988. If you want I can list some more links for breeders of Czech GSds. Just let me know. Believe ME, I DO know Huskies. My ex-stepfather had Huskies. Very beautiful to look at, But just my cup of tea. :D
23. I don't care if she is 174 years old. She could have had her daughter or someone else come to her house and put the dog in the car. Heck, animal control may have even come and picked the dog up if they had known the story about her not being able to get it in the car. I hope they prosecute the H*LL out of her.
24. My dogs do the same thing. They also "Dive" for cheese. If I drop cheese in the wyer bowl they will fish it out. Not quite the same as "bobbing" since cheese sinks. They also bob for apples in the summer. I put them in a 5 gallon bucket.
25.
Will you be doing Schutzhund with your new boy when you get him?
Yes, that is the plan. Actually I plan on doing a ton of things with him. I HAVE to do AKC obedience, just so that the general public can see what a REAL German Shepherd looks like. LOL I am also going to show him in conformation (at least a few times just for fun, AGAIN so "Joe Public" can see the difference). It really just bothers me that when your "average" dog person is interested in a certain breed they are ALWAYS told "go to a dog show". If they happen to be interested in a GSD, and they go to a dog show what do they see??? Dogs like the "super slant" in the 4th picture. So naturally they think that all GSDs are supposed to look like that. How are people supposed to see the difference if someone like me doesn't get their "real" GSD out in public??? :)
