1.
http://www.topperlynkennels.com/ I really like this one. These people are serious about their pups' well being through out life. What do you guys think?
I like the looks of this one. (They also have colors besides Orange.) The other one probably doesn't have anything other than the basic "Orange" do they? Also, I personally HATE breeders that try to tell you what to feed your dog. IMO, they should give their opinion and some FREE kibble that they have been feeding the pups and let YOU go from there. Since you don't want an Orange one, it would probably be best to stay away from your "basic" Brittany breeders. (Meaning those that breed to the AKC standard. ) As my guess is that it will be VERY tough to find any color other than Orange from one of these breeders. (Even Liver and White really isn't THAT popular. Let alone Tri.)
2.
Black GSD- I KNOW it has to stop immediatley..thats why i came here for help. And THat Vet With A Degree And I Disagree With You, She is Not A Moron, says it is because he was seperated rom his mom at an early age.
Ok, hows this: The vet is WRONG!!!!! As far as the neutering him. That WON'T fix the problem. As has been said. It is NOT hormonal(sp). It is a dominance issue. Neutered dogs and even females (spayed or not) do the exact same thing. (I'm not saying he shouldn't be neutered. Just that neutering him will not stop this behaviour.) If you truely came here for help as you claim. Then LISTEN to what you are being told rather than getting defensive. And my guess is that the puppy IS a brat. (They ALL are at times.)
3. That is really a "no brainer". Keep the male AWAY from her.
4. That type of behaiuor un a pup that age is a dominance thing. NOT because he thinks everyone is his mom. No offense, but the vet that said that is a TOTAL moron. Telling him NO won't work because my guess is that at that age, he doesn't even know what NO means. That said, I would put a stop to it IMMEDIATELY. It is annoying at the very least. (I HATE dogs that do that cr@p! And most of the ones that do that are little dogs. Mainly because people with big dogs don't think it is cute or funny.) If they don't stop him from doing that NOW. He WILL do it his whole life. (Or until someone kicks him for it.)
5.
..... the idea of intentionally breeding several dogs together to create a mishmash of genotypes honestly turns my stomach. :(
I couldn't have said it better myself!
6. See that is the thing. According to the AKC standard. Black (either on the nose OR coat) is a disqualification. (So I would think that there aren't many breeders that breed them. At least I HOPE there aren't)) But Liver Tri are "allowed but not preferred." On the first site she listed they DID have black tris. And according to the site, their dogs ARE AKC registered. Have a look here.http://french-brittany.com/champs.htm
7. Actually from the sounds of it those "french" Brittanys ARE the same thing. The dogs from the first kennel you posted are AKC registered too. When you say it must be "within driving distance" driving distance from WHERE??? (I know where you are. Are your parnets here too?) Just wondered since tht first site is in SD. Which sounds a little farther than "driving distance" from WA. Also , I'm sure you know that you had best be looking for breeders that breed FOR hunting ability. (Right? :D ) AND, since you want a Tri-color it may take a LONG time to find since this is NOT a popular color for the breed. Is a Liver and White not an option? Also when you say Tri colored, do you mean TRUE tri colored (BLACK, Tan(or orange) and White) or do you mean a Liver Tri? (Liver, Tan(or orange) and White.)
8. Why? Aren't there enough mixed breeds in the world without encouraging people to breed more? Because after all that is what an Ori Pei is, a MIXED breed.
9. What a CUTE puppy! That said, I don't have breeds with cropped ears. Can't you ask the breeder about the ear issues? I do know that with breeds that have erect ears, (Like German Shepherds.) a lot of times their ears don't stand and stay that way until they are done teething. Don't know if dogs with cropped ears are the same way or not. Maybe someone else on the board that has a dog with cropped ears will see this and be able to help. :D
10. Rowie, Glad that you found a breeder. I really hate to post things like my other post sometimes since I feel like I am "raining on your parade". BUT, I post anyway. The last thing I want is for someone to fall in love with a pup, then find out what the "small print" says.
11. OK, here goes; "Diva", Because I liked the name. (She is a solid black GSD.) She "goes by" "Hogger". (Since I got her in the summer and it was HOT. So I started calling her a little "sweat hog" and that got changed into Hogger.) "Wrangler". Because I wanted a "western" sounding name since he is a "heeler". Wrangler also fit since Wrangler jeans are generally blue and he is a Blue Merle. (He is actually a ACD/Australian Shepherd mix. But looks like a blue merle ACD.) I call him "Sweetness". (Actually is called that more than his real name.) "Crazy" 8 month old Black Sable GSD. His "real" name is "Xavo" (because I liked the name.) But due to his personality he is now called Crazy or Craze. (He is NEVER called Xavo anymore.) (Won't get into the horses names.)
12. I agree with Goldenluv. I don't agree with early spaying/neutering either.
13. This statement alone would cause me not to buy a puppy from this kennel: ""The buyer agrees to feed Iams Puppy Food and at the appropriate age (as advised by your vet) to switch the puppy to a food recommended by the breeder or, in special circumstances by your veterinarian. " NO ONE(especially a vet.) will tell me that I HAVE to feed my dog a certain food. (Espesially if it is Iams.) And the REAL stickler, If you DON"T feed what they tell you to. The guarantee is NULL AND VOID! Here is another think "I" don't like. "Puppies sold on an Agreement of Sale of Pet Puppies shall be spayed/neutered by the Purchasers before the dog attains nine (9) months of age." (This info is located on their "Agreement of sale" page.) If I was you, I would tell them that Iams isn't available where you live and see what they say. (Just for curiousity sake.)
14. Seperate them. seperate play time, seperate feeding spots, let him go out alone. ect... YOU are the boss of that house NOT Bella. And if you don't teach her that NOW it will be that much harder later. If you don't want to crate her, put her on a leash and don't let her get to Ben. He shouldn't have to be tortured by her all of the time, and it is up to YOU to see that it doesn't happen. Also keep in mind that if you don't put a stop to this, one of these days after Ben gets used to her and isn't so afraid anymore, HE may put a stop to her cr@p with his TEETH. And that is NOT something that you want to happen.
15. One thing that a lot of people I know do is to teach the dog to look at them when it sees a strange dog or person. With a pup, sometimes if you just ignore the behaviour and dont' reward it in any way they will stop on their own. I wonder if you are sneding "signals" down the leash to him? Are the people that he reasts to scary looking to YOU? If they look like "bad guys" to you, you could very well be sending him signals that there is something to worry about. Do you tighten up on the leash when you see these people? Sorry for all of the questions. :D Also what breed is he?
16.
I would love to get a second dog but I think that anyone who takes that on has to be prepared for the possibility that the dogs may have to be seperated when not supervised.
Good point. Also keep in mind that IMO a small puppy should NEVER be left alone with an older dog or pup. It only takes an instant for things to end badly. And like I said before, there are a LOT of dogs that won't hesitate to hurt or kill a puppy let alone the possibility of the puppy being injured accidently.
17. First off, NO it soes NOT always work out. Even if the second dog is a young puppy when you get it. And not ALL dogs won't hurt or kill a puppy. (And I am NOT talking about Pits here either.) While dogs are "supposed" to be "pack animals" there are quite a few breeds that do NOT do well in multiple dog households.
18. Poochster, I think you should REALLY rethink this one. The more I read the more it sounds like this breed has a LOT of traits that you said you DIDN'T want. And the coat and shedding is just the start of it. When they say double coated breeds "blow their coats" twice a year, you have NO idea how bad that is unless you have experienced it. And with double coated breeds. (Which the Kees is.) They DO shed at least a little year round. And even if brushed EVERY DAY you will STILL have dog hair around your house. (Believe ME, I have had "double coated" breeds for over 20 years.) They are supposed to be fairly quiet in the house. BUT, also have a fairly high need for exercise. (Meaning OUTSIDE.) And they are "needy" dogs that like and DEMAND a LOT of affention. (Which is something you said you DIDN'T want.) I don't mean to burst your bubble. But after reading the past posts about what you do and don't want in a dog this really does sound like a "disaster in the making".
19.
hey there, especially since this breed can be trusted without the masters presence. poochster a.k.a adil
What exactly does this mean?
20. Have you checked out this page? http://www.k9web.com/dog-faqs/breeds/keeshonden.html It is a FAQ page about the Kees. It also says that they are moderate to high in their need for attention. I thought that was not a good thing in your book?
21. Minimal shedder? WTF???? They shed BIG TIME. You will have constant dust bunnies all over the place. And shaving the coat off is a BAD idea. They have that coat for a reason. And saving does NOT make them not shed they just shed tiny hairs that sitck in your skin like slivers.(sp)
22. So I was RIGHT!!!! :P :P (JK) I was the one that said he was freaking out over Bella and not "Mom". I was also the one that said they should NOT go out together because they WOULD play.
