1. Dog Paddle, Aren't they called the "Grey Ghost"( or something like that?)
2. Like has been said, Catahoulas come in most all colors. I have had 3 Catahoulas. 1 was a Black Tri.(Black with tan and white trim.) One was Black and Tan. (Like a Dobie or Rott.) and one was a Blue Leopard. There are several breeds that have, or can have, blue eyes for instance (But not limited to): Siberian Husky(but NOT Malamute) Alaskan Husky(sp) Australian Shepherd Catahoula Border Collie (Blue merles) Collie and Sheltie (Blue Merles only) Cardigan Welsh Corgi (Blue Merles only) Also, most breeds that have dogs that come in "Red" (or liver or chocolate what ever you want to call that color.) It is most prevelant that the red dogs have more "greenish" or amber eyes rather than blue. They CAN have blue eyes in some breeds, but they are harder to find. Weimeraners don't have " Bright BLUE" eyes like the other breeds though they can have blue-grey eyes, (They look more grey than BLUE.
3.
Severe meaning he was swiftly "apprehended" by sweeping his feet out from under him and pinning him down on his back. I realize that this may be a stupid thing to do with a severely aggressive dog, or with a really dominant breed,
That is the thing. If you were to do this with a dog that is TRUELY dominant. You WILL get bitten. (Afterall you HAVE to let them up eventually.) It is one thing if the dog is just being a "butt head" and another thing all together if it as a very hard, dominant dog. There are dogs that you CANNOT get physical with or they WILL bite you. Doesn't mean that they are a "bad" dog. Just that they have their own idea of what is and is not "acceptable" behaviour. And to them, a person getting physical (whether that is jerking the heck out of the choke or pinch collar, or physically trying to get them to do something, like the old "pull UP on the collar and puch DOWN on their rear" to get them to sit.) is NOT something that they accept. But this same dog may very well be a GREAT dog as long as positive methods are used. Once this dog is taught with positive methods, a QUICK correction on the collar (when they "refuse" a command) can be given and they will "get the picture". I don't necessarily agree that you can "train them out of aggression". You can train the dog using positive methods. But if anyone ever resorts back to the "old methods" the aggression will come back.
4. IMO, the LAST person that should be trying to tell you how and what to feed your dog is the VET. Most know next to nothing about nutrition. And what they DO know they learn from kibble manufacturers! Why do you think they push Science Death? I agree, if the dog is fat, feed them less. (And or exercise them more.) Besides, the foods you feed are for ALL LIFE STAGES. Being fat is a "life stage" as is being "old". That is why they don't have "diet" formulas. As far as changing food every so often? That is up to you. Some folks do and others don't. I have had dogs that ate the same kibble their whole lives and never had any issues. Have seen dogs that didn't have any "issues" UNTIL they changed kibble. Just do what is best for you and your dog. If the vet doesn't like it, TOUGH. It is YOUR dog. The vet works for YOU.
5. NO!!! Your dog is NOT "normal" for a Husky (Sounds like a nice dog though.) They generally ARE jumpers and think nothing of running off. They are BRED to be "runners". For a lot of them, a 6 foot fence won't keep them in.
6.
I personally don't like dogs on furniture because of the hair and because I just don't really think they need to be up there. Guests don't sit on my bed, but they do sit on the couch and I hate for them to be all hairy when the get up.
Well, anyone that doesn't like dog hair doesn't need to come to my house. With 4 house dogs, (2 GSDs and 2 Heelers) there is BOUND to be dog hair. BUT, the couch is leather so the hair doesn't stick to it anyway.
7. I have always had breeds that are known for their dominance. (GSDs, Cattle Dogs and Catahoula Leopard Dogs.) All have been allowed on the bed and I have NEVER had a problem. But I work with and train my dogs and they KNOW that I am the boss and that they better listen to ME! If they are on the bed or couch, and I say "Off", they DO IT! For folks that baby their dogs and don't make them mind, they CAN have even more problems if the dog is allowed on the furniture/bed. But, IMO being allowed on the furniture is not the CAUSE of the problem.
8. Judy, AS far as giving a refund in the case of aggressiveness. Do you do this to get the dog away from the people and hopefully be able to give it a better life? As we know, aggressiveness can be caused rather than genetic. If it is caused by the treatment of the owner, in reality you are NOT responsible. (Though I can see how you would feel that way since you sold them the puppy in the first place believing that the puppy was going to be treated properly.) BUT, I can totally see taking the pup/dog back and giving them their money back rather than giving them aonther pup to ruin. (Since the DOG is the most important thing.
9.
Exactly, but I would say they are not only *reputable*, but *knowledgable*. Even some reputable breeder's will agree to selling two puppies to someone because they are not *knowledgable* about the pitfalls.
You are ABSOLUTELY right!!!!! :D
10. Sounds to me like Dixies days with that family are numbered. And truthfully, if they can't keep their son under control, they shouldn't have a dog! Sorry to be so blunt and mean sounding, It just REALLY pi$$e$ me off when people get a pup/dog, let the kid harrass the dog, then get rid of the dog because it has no manners. It is THEIR fault that the puppy is like that. But until they ge control of the kid, there is NO hope!
11. I forgot to mention that a lot of "reputable" breeders will NOT sell 2 littermates to the same person.
12.
Well said, KP and Kendalyn. Had to laugh at your last sentence Kendalyn, because while I expect my dogs to behave around guests, if someone else's dog is a *holy terror* around me, I just laugh weakly and say, "oh, that's o.k"..while inside I am seething!!
I say "it's ok". If it is a small dog or puppy (And I reallty mean it is OK.). If it is a big obnoxious dog, I knee it in the chest! However if the owner is trying to teach the dog not to jump on people, I do not encourage the dog or pet it when it is jumping on me. One of the Sheffifs Deputys that lives in town has a HUGE Rott. (He is over 100lbs. Not only is he a BIG dog, he is also FAT.) He is a VERY friendly dog. EVERY TIME I am over there the dog jumps on me. I knee him everytime. And the owner has NEVER said anything. Heck, it works a lot better than they saying "NO". Since he doesn't listen to them anyway. I also know someone that has a HUGE Mastiff. He is the same way. He jumps on EVERYONE including the owners. But he doesn't jump on me anymore!
13. Well I am of the "other side". I say don't do it. I have done it. And will NEVER do it again. For one thing, the pups will most likely bond to each other rather than you. (Unless they are seperated for most of the day.) The good thing about ours is that they were seperated all day. They were only together at night. They NEVER have to "go" at the same time. If one is sick, they are BOTH sick. You think looking after one pup loose in the house is tough? Try it when there are 2 of them and they ALWAYS go in different directions! They wil both be old at the same time. And most likely will go to the Rainbow Bridge close to the same time. SO, you will get a "double Wammy" as far as loosing both of your friends at the same time. There is NO guarantee that they will get along forever. Even if they are neutered. Ours are both males and they DO fight occasionally. And they really DON'T like eachother. (They are now 4yo.) What would you do if they grew up and HATED eachother? Believe ME, It is NOT fun to have 2 dogs in the same family that can't stand the sight of eachother. I have had this happen in the past and it WAS with dogs that grew up together. Personally, I think it is WAY better to get one at a time. If you still feel the need for a second dog, wait until the first is at least 2yo. You have more time to devote to the raising, bonding with and training of the pup if there is only one. And you don't have to worry about them being SO bonded to eachother that one can't function without the other. I have seen dogs that were raised together get SO bonded to eachother, that they have seperation anxieity(sp) so bad that they would do damage to themselves if seperated. (NOT a good thing.)
14. I agree with Autunm., And also say, No drugs! I really think that rehoming her might be the best for all involved. IMO, it is NOT going to teach your kids that you just "throw away" pets. It will teach them to do what is best for the PET even if it is hard on the owner. Not only do yu have a "wild puppy", you have a wild "teenage" puppy which is 1000x worse! It sounds to me like you already think that rehoming her would be best for all involved. If that is what you decide to do. Do NOT let anyone make you feel guilty. It takes a big person to do what is best for the pet. It is obvoius that you love her and want HER to be happy.
15. Well personally if it isn't too late, I wold go else where. Did you ask them WHY the price difference among the pet puppies? If it is a pet, it is a pet. PERIOD. Unless they give an additional discount if the pup has an "issue" such as being a cryptorchid. WHY did they breed this bitch? What makes her so great that she NEEDED to be bred? Apparently she isn't a show dog and neither are a fair number of the dogs in the first few generations of her pedigree. (Not saying that only show dogs should be bred, just WHY this bitch?) Have you check into her OFA rating? What is it? They seem to me like someone that bred their "pet" and now want to get money for the puppies. (Even though she was bred to a Champoin stud.) As far as their contract, as far as they are concerned, as long as the dog has it's health clearances you can breed it. NOTHING is said about faults, temperment ect...
16. Maybe she was scruffy ect... because she was hit by a car. (Or was she too far from cars?) Being hit by a car would be painful which as you know can make a dog act strangely. Besides, a lot of "moms" don't like strangers to mess with their babies. (I know this is "pretend" just trying to help.) :D
17.
As far as the destruction of a house would go, there are always ways around it. Thats what they make crates for....till they can be trusted without the use of them.
You're right, that IS what crates are for. BUT, some dogs can NEVER be trusted loose in the house all day. (Unless they are 15yo, blind, deaf, and have no teeth. )
18. Right off of the top of my head, I would say no. IWs are not prone to dog aggression so what would be the point. (I'm not saying that they wouldn't fight back if attacked, just that if you put 2 IWs together, chances are they aren't going to fight eachother.) However, it is totally possible that someone that is into fighting dogs may use an IW as bait.
19. My pup gets 2 meals a day. (He would eat himself to death if allowed.) The other 4 have food down 24/7. One is a "grazer" the others usually only eat at night even though they always have food. Also the 3 house dogs that have food 24/7, won't eat if no one is home.
20. If you work all day, it sounds to me like with either of these breeds you would probably come home to a destroyed house. Cockers are hunting dogs and Corgis and herding dogs. Neither is known for being a very calm couch potato type dog. How do you feel about having a Cocker groomed VERY regularly? Yes, a Corgi is a "big dog in a small body", but they also have a big dogs activity level. (Though I do love Corgis.) If you like big digs, have you thought about a Greyhound or another Sight Hound?
21. With the kitten, I would use a squirt bottle. And never leave it loose around the tree unsupervised. Same thing might work on a dog/puppy too. Providing that they don't like the water.
22. Try this. http://www.irishwolfhoundclubofcanada.ca/ (There is at least 1 color picture. The one on the main page is a fawn.) Also, have you gone to google.com and typed in Irish Wolfhound? That is where I found the site above.
23. Have you tried the Irish Wolfhound Club of America? www.iwclubofamerica.org I have never been to that site. But that is where I would start.
24. Well I live in "the middle of nowhere" ()there are only about 500 or so in the whole town.)so i don't have to worry about dog parks either. Besides, we have 100 acres here at the house and another 5000 across the lake on the ranch. So I don't have to "go" somewhere to let the dogs run. I just have to open the front door. :P  :D
25. I don't know about Canidae, but when I was feeding Solid Gold, I swear my pup pooped 3 times as much as I fed him. He was only getting 2 cups a day, but was pooping 6 cups! (Or so it seemed.) I changed to Natural Balance, (not because of the poops though, but because the closest place that sells SG is over 100 miles one way. And the "thousand" poops a day went down to 2 or 3. I now feed him Chicken Soup for the Dog Lovers Soul. Same thing few poops a day and very firm. He just was increased to 3 cups a day. Our other 4 dogs eat Nutro NC and they too only poop a couple of times a day each.
