LOL K! I was wondering how the rabbits even see? :o All that fur!

I read on the site that people raise them for their wool... :o

(You learn something new everyday!)

OK Rowie - you got me going - I had to look it up. I have known avout Angora sweaters, but never knew the wool came from rabbits...or that rabbot fur could be spun like wool....

Angora rabbits are not only a source of enjoyment and quiet company, they are also the source of a wool that is incredibly soft and warm. Handspun into a durable yarn, it is eight times warmer than sheep wool, and so light it provides warmth without weight. Angora wool is continuously renewed and gently harvested during the rabbits natural molting process; thus, the Angora rabbit need never be harmed for it's wool.

almost any animal hair can be spun. i have two friends who own sweaters knitted from the brushed-out, spun wool of their dogs - one a samoyed and one a kuvaz. :)

i think that is THE coolest "souvenir" to have from your own dog. too bad i never owned a dog with a coat long enough to do this...

well that explains something. When I had my malamute/BC mix I would have him "thinned" every year to make summer easier on him...his coat would get to be 3 and 4 inches thick over the winter....and one day they came out with this 30 gallon garbage bag half filled with Fur (bad winter that year) and asked me if I wanted it...what would I want it for?

She said that some people want the fur to make sweaters with...

I'm in LOVE! :loveu: :iloveyou: :iloveyou: :loveu: I love them, the are soo cute!

And coutnek your absolutly right, angora's are never to be hurt or killed for there fur..that is a BIG no no. Ya just brush them and the hair comes out naturally. But they do need to be brushed EVERY DAY. ANd you have to be careful because they can get hairballs very easily and die (they can't throw up hairballs like cats and dogs could). I've seen a woman on tv who had a bunch of angora's and made sweaters, scarves and hats out of there fur. Very beautiful and VERY soft. :P :krolik:

OOOh, OOOh, OOOh - I knew what they were right away!!
We raised and showed rabbits for a while - we actually showed Flemish Giants (we had one over 20 pounds!!) and my daughter showed Netherland Dwarfs (had to be under 3 pounds) - talk about extremes!

ANYWAY - at a rabbit show I got to talking to a breeder of angoras, and got to hold some. They are AMAZING - because you think you are picking up this HUGE rabbit, and they are really tiny inside all that fur! They are really sweet, though, and just love to cuddle! Of course, these were show bunnies so they were handled a lot, but as a breed I burss they have really good temperments. If we didn't have the Flemish at the time, I would probably have had one (I'm such a sucker for a cute furry face! )

We had those come to my kids' birthday party earlier this month! LOL  We had a pony ride and a petting zoo and some of the animals besides the pony consisted of bunnies (some angora as you've shown) and goats and japanese chickens. It was such a crack up.....

These pics were great and brought back some funny memories from the day LOL!

Have a good one

, I'd have trouble deciding if I was looking at the front or the rear of that critter
Hey Carol maybe you could put a bow at both ends...just to be sure
Yeah, one bow that said FEED THIS END and one that said CLEAN THIS END. 8)

I think I'm going to save up Sasha's fur this winter and spring for a scarf or something. I saw that on TV a while back, and I've been tempted ever since. :)
