Shannon_C
He definately has some Bernese Mountain Dog in him Elephant :D not sure what else though!
Luka-pop
Before I got to the 2nd and 3rd pics, I saw some Dachshund in him. Just from the color and ears tho.
Rosebud
:) I would definately agree with the Bernese Mountian Dog, definately has the markings. I would also venture to guess from the head and ears there might be some golden retriever in there. You have a very pretty baby, sweet face.

DogPaddle
Could have BMD or similar in him, but around her anyway there are almost no BMD crosses or BMDs in shelters - most of the breeders are very careful, they are not practical puppy mill dogs and they are relatively rare. Carolk9s
Whew, I have to go against the flow here, I really don't see too much Berner in this dog. Perhaps some English Shepherd or a collie type mixed with some heavier built dog. Just don't see any bone structure of a berner.
Carolk9s
English Shep/Golden? Aussie/Golden? Very pretty whatever the parentage!

Guest Anonymous
Thanks to everyone who has replied and comments on Jax. We are so happy with him and he is great with the family cats. He is our faithful campanion. I stubled on to this apparently rare breed flipping through books on the weekend that has striking resemblances to Jax. One of the only differences is the connecting light coloured fur on his front. Some photos have the connecting fur and others not. The breed is called "Hovawart" Anyone familiar to this breed that might be able to rule this in or out? Guest Anonymous
Same here, not really any BMD. But I can defiently see some Hovawart!

meehs
You can look at any mixed breed and find a resemlence to some purebred dog. Since the Hovawart is a pretty uncommon breed I'd say it's highly unlikely that your dog is of Hovawart lineage even though he does look like one. I'd be inclined to think that he's a mixed breed that just happens to look like a Hovawart. Just my opinion. He's a great looking dog. Good luck with him! Guest Anonymous
I am leaning towards meehs comments as being correct in that Hovawart is very uncommon and perhaps it is a coincidence.Jax's strong markings on the chest are too bright for that breed. I guess it is possible he has some in him. Its a mystery :P Thanks to everyone who has commented. Based on his gentle nature and endless desire to run and retrieve all types of items one can only guess. A very happy dog though.. 8)
Lord_Pik
I think the "Hovawart" has got it on the nose!...although it still is likely crossed with something else...maybe BMD as you suspected earlier :hmmmm:
yellowlabsrule
Ok, I don't know anything but if the Hovawart breed was created by mixing a lot of breeds together, isn't it possible that you could get one after a lot of mixes? :-? (I think he's probably not one, but just curious)
