I'm sorry to be a bit blunt here but weren't you just asking for book suggestions to train your St. Bernard? If your current dog is already a year old and not trained how are you planning on training two dogs at once? It sounds like this pup needs a LOT of work and training...

How do I make my puppy do the "stance"
Lucky Chaos replied to Edgar's topic in Everything about dogs
Here's a GSD show stack, but I'm not sure how to teach them to stand like that. -
Consider a breed that is less touch sensitive and can tolerate small children. Labs are know for this.
But labs, especially young ones can be very hyper and accidently knock a young child over. If this person would want a lab (which I doubt, going from a "mini" yorkie to a lab  ) I would suggest going through rescue and getting a slightly older more mellow dog. :D

Update on neighbor's Bulldog (K, better grab a smoke)
Lucky Chaos replied to Horsefeathers!'s topic in Group 2
If you took her yourself the owners probably wouldn't even notice her among your pack  No seriously I was gonna suggest Aroura's idea but wasen't sure how you'd feel about it. I wish I could help, but I'm way too far away. :( She is a pretty one, with her beautiful blue eyes. I'm sure you wouldn't have any trouble finding someone who wants her. -
"I have not met another dog as gentle, intuitive, caring, and intelligent as the labradoodle," said Caren Cioffi, a labradoodle owner and Stanford University MBA student who did a business internship with Manners last summer.
So this is supossed to refer to all poo mutts and mixed breeds? Cause my friends $1400 "shih-poo" bit her on the arse not long ago. They figured he would have a beautiful coat like a shih-tzu, but be smart and basically train himself like a poodle, well it just dosen't work that way.
:o Wait, which one of those piles of fur is the actual dog? Seriously that is a lot of hair.

AWE!!! What a cutie!! :iloveyou: Can I have her? No? Oh well I tried. :(

That first pic is just so cute! :D What a vicious child-killer you have there
-
Fromt he pics I think he's definately a shepherd mix, and since he has a curled tail husky or malamute is my best guess. Whatever he is, he's a cutie!

What a touching and sad story. And everyone else too. I think everyone has that special dog that really stands out, even though you love all the others with all your heart.

Dogs head has a skull shape...
Shouldn't all heads be shaped like a skull?
   Yes it should but if you read the whole thing, its saying that the skull should be shaped flat at the ears and with prominant cheeks, not the skull should be shaped like a skull
Dogs head has a skull shape which is flat and at the ears with prominet cheeks
-
Omg poor kitty! I'm definately sending an email tonight, shelter workers of all people!

You might not be able to stop private citizens from riding horses near there
Private citizens riding horses in downtown Toronto? :shocked!: :shocked!: :shocked!:
Heh, I've actually seen private citizens with their horses ride down to the park along the road, probably not in the winter though. Its a different sight to say the least.

How cute! I can just picture him all hunkered down hoping you won't spot him. :D Our dogs aren't allowed on the main couch, but they have their own. Though one couch for 3 dogs and 3 cats can get pretty crowded and I know at least one of the dogs keeps going on the couch in the daytime, (the pillows are usually all over the floor and theres a dog shaped dent on the seat) though I've never caught them so haven't quite figured out who it is yet, between Chaos and Riley.
Thanks DP. :D
May I ask what methods you used, I am still working through some issues with my boys?
Well for agility classes I simply started out by using the gentle leader. It REALLY mellows Abs out which was what I needed in order to be able to take the class at all. In addition to her being more calm on the GL, I could also control her head which is a big plus. So I just used that and gave her treats if she was good when other dogs came close. Soon I was able to take the GL off and as soon as she made an aggressive move it went back on, so soon she just picked up that if she simply ignored the other dogs then the GL would stay off. (And she despises that thing!) And then with situations when I'm walking her I've just been distracting her with some of her favorite treats, doing whatever I can to keep her focused on me and not the dog. And often walking in the other direction, until recently when I've been trying just to walk right by the dog while keeping her attention on me. It's a long process and there's been a lot of set backs but I'm seeing some progress which is good of course. :D :D :D I hope some of this helps. :D Goodluck! :D
I think I'm gonna try this too, Chaos was getting so good lately but yesterday she started snarling at this one dog. I thought she was getting so much better, and she was but it seemed just this paticular dog (maybe cause he was a mastiff, the same breed that attacked her and got her scared in the first place) even though this dog was such a sweetie she really hated him. We used the gentle leader a while ago, she was always a puller but stopped now that she heels nicely, but I guess its time to try it again. Plus our agility lessons start in Feb and I can't take her if she's gonna be aggressive, its one of the requirements, we might even have to postpone it for a bit.

If she learned not to bark at buffalo's, horses should be a breeze! I've been though that little "zoo" and my dogs go nuts so we usually avoid it. Did you know about the stables not too far from the park? I think the're called Sunnybrook stables, but can't remember for sure. Its a bit of a walk, but if you went there pretty often and just walked around with her on leash I'm sure she would eventually get used to the smell of the horses.

And the ignorance continues... What a load of cr*p
Yeah, sure, as if I could train my Pomeranian-mix puppy to become an attack dog.
You don't have to train it, you just have to NOT train it. I've been bit by a yorkie and a miniture poodle, both untrained, for the simple reason that they were little dogs.

Hmm I signed and posted this morning...#68 but somehow my post never got posted.

Lucky was neutered at 6 months as well, and never lifted his leg till about 1 1/2 - 2 years. Even now at age 5 he still does half and half, sometimes lifting his leg and sometimes squatting. Also, I'm not sure what breed Jesse is, but some dogs with hip problems will act normally at least for the first couple years but never lift their legs.

am i too young to help out at my local shelter?
Lucky Chaos replied to delh1's topic in Dogs in need
It really does depend on the shelter, at our shelter you have to be 16 to volunteer which really sucks cause I have another year to go. :( But the animal control will let people under 16, though not unsupervised and only jobs like cleaning cages and not stuff like walking the dogs. -
You guys have to help me! Crystal said she won't show us pics of Apollo! We can't let that happen can we?! Now come on everyone say it with me, WE WANT PICS!!! :D
