1.

Yeah, but would you ever own a Dalmatian? ( I swear, you guys are trying to kill me here.)
I guess if I ever got a DalmatiAn I'd have to learn how to spell it right? 8) Believe me, I understand. I seen and heard the Belgian Shepherds called BelgiUM Shepherds many many times.
Precisely. I am VERY disappointed in my fellow Dogo'ers for not recognizing my comment. Except Jessashelony. So Carol, how is that Belgium of yours?
2. Yeah, but would you ever own a Dalmatian? ( I swear, you guys are trying to kill me here.)
3.

I don't care for Dalmations, I know there are lovely, well mannered Dals but so far all the ones I have met have been a bit too snarky.
Better not let Corrie see that!
Yeah, well actually I don't care for Dalmations either.
4. Are there any breeds that you wouldn't own? I don't mean just breeds you dislike, but breeds that you like but that don't fit into your lifestyle. This isn't a mean thread by any means, but I am curious as to other people's preferences. Nobody should take anybody elses choices personally because it isn't an attack on anyone's dogs. I know we all love ALL of the Dogo dogs. ;) I love Australian Cattle Dogs, but I don't think I could cope with the cattle part of them. I can appreciate a good Golden or Lab, but once again, I would not be able to deal with thier "retrieverness". I also can't see myself owning a small dog anytime soon, but one of my favorite dogs is Ryan's parents' Sheltie/peke mix. My preference, for myself is just for larger dogs. And finally, my most controversial statement. I will probably never own a Pit Bull. Not because I dislike them, ( heck I go to more pittie sites than my other dog sites combined.) but because I think that one day I would just snap on some anti-pittie person and beat thier a$$ into the ground. That really is not the PR that the breed needs. I can see the headlines " Psycho Pit Bull Owner mauls upstanding family man." So out of my dedication to the breed, I do all that I can to provide good PR in the ways that I am able to and do my damndest to fight BSL. All of that put aside, I am pretty dedicated to my breed and can't really see myself owning a different one. ( Though if Sizzle keeps posting those &%$#*$ Dobe pics.............) When I was choosing the breed that I was going to get as my future dog, I went to sooooooo many sites and looked at so many breeds, and had it narrowed down to just a few I realized that I kept coming back to Dalmatians. I finally admitted the truth to myself. And when Ryan and I were talking about getting a dog, I asked him what characteristics he was looking for. Fortunately Dalmatians legitamately fit into that list too.
5. Some breeds, as already stated are just pretty vocal. The nothern breeds, such as Conar, my dad's Samoyed is the most talkative dog we've ever had. He woowoos a lot. If people come over and we are talking, he has to be part of the conversation. If he wants to play fetch, he will drop whatever toy at your feet and woowoo at you. He is a dominant dog with other dogs, but never with people. He will do whatever you tell him to. Granted you usually have to phrase it as a request, like "Conar why don't you sit." instead of just saying sit, but he doesn't have any problem accepting people as "boss".
6. Sizzle! Stop and desist, I am a DALMATIAN person, you posting horribly cute Dobe pics isn't going to change that...........much.
7. Seijun, are you even considering that the dog may have had its tail docked, or amputated for that manner, for a different reason altogether? Perhaps due to some medical condition or a freak accident that had nothing to do with the line of work? Any of the pictures I have have seen of explosives dogs, they have all had thier tails unless they were Dobes or another docked breed. Detection dogs, depending on thier task are all trained to alert in different ways. Some like drug dogs and the FDA's Beagle Brigade, are trained to just sit as an alert. Some dogs are trained to just bark as an alert, etc. I just doubt that the dog you saw had it's tail docked due to it's line of work. Out of the many canidates for detection work, not all make the grade to work. Not to mention that many dogs used for detection work are actually rescues. ( Generally dogs that had too much drive to just be "pets".)
8. Tammy, I wish I was there in person to give you a physical shoulder to cry on and a big hug. I have PM'd you my number if you need to talk. {hugs}
9. Because I said it FIRST! And I'm older than you, little missy! Oh and did I mention because I said it FIRST?!?!? Yes I am a Dalmatian person but I like GDS too. Sheesh.
10. YAY Ilsa's daddy! Now we all know where she gets her good looks.
11. Why WOULDN"T you go get that adorable mini Jackie? :evilbat:
12.
I can't get over how lovely his face is. It's quite striking, especially with that eye color. Hmm... I wonder how long it would take to drive over and steal him.... :loveu:
Wait a second, are you trying to steal him from right under MY dog thieving nose? Bad girl!
13. Since you never answered my question, that means yes right?
14. So does this mean I get to steal both of them now?
15. Tammy, I don't know what to say other than, he knew real love for the time that you had him. I know that is a small comfort to you right now, but it was a huge comfort to him. He left being loved and cherished, and that is never a waste, whether it be a day or a year. They KNOW when they are loved and cherished. The fact that you are so torn up over this proves that you are an excellent doggy mom. I know that he would thank you if he could. My thoughts are with you darlin. If you need to talk, we are here. ( My contact info is in my profile, it is centralhellside on AIM or centralhellside@ hotmail on MSN) I know you know that, but stating it just re-enforces it. Once again Tammy, you made this dog's life better, there is no wrong in that. He left knowing real love. He was lucky to have found you.
16. I am confident that Peaches will learn to be good in your home HF. For the simple fact that there are dog owners and then there are dog people. You are the latter, and it sounds like your friend was the former.
17.
Pizzle, like every year. They just don't like toys.......
But they like bull penis?
18. Methinks this problem has come up before... http://forum.dogomania.com/viewtopic.php?t=15743&highlight=belly+band
19. Several years back there was a team of Standard Poodles I believe that tried to race in the Beargrease.
20. Actually Crested, my breeder says that she almost prefers having her pups go to homes that handwalk versus those with a fence. Why? Because a lot of the time the dog in the fence just ends up curled up in a sunspot, whereas the handwalked dog gets more excercise. Theorhetically of course.
21. My favorite breed? Dalmatians, of course. I also really love Dobes, Rhodesian Ridgebacks, Great Danes, Catahoulas, Beaucerons, Bull Terriers and some more that I know I am forgeting. I grew up with a Samoyed/Husky mix, a Spitz/cocker/poodle/terrier mix, 3 Dalmatians and now a Samoyed.
22. I was talking to Sizzle the other day and her Dobe, Ilsa doesn't like "dog buildings." It sounds like pretty much the same problem you have dear. I imagine she can shed some light on this. SIZZLE!! Here girl!!
23. Has she had any formal obedience classes? Even if she has, you could still enroll her. I imagine it will build her confidence ( and further your bond.). Plus if she needs anything additional, presto, there is already a trainer there. Hey Sizzle, you have any words of wisdom?
