A friend of mine on another forum is rescueing two blind Pug pups. I'm going to give him the usual advice for sibling pups, but does anybody have tips for the blind aspect? I was thinking that maybe hecould scent his furniture or something so they know where stuff is or something.

So........they didn't have any of the booties of "our" style in stock, so they are being made. She is going to call me when they are done.

Tomorrow. They are closed on weekends and close at 4 on weekdays. The past week, my work schedule has been all over, allowing me just enough time to go home, sleep, wake up and get ready and RUN to work.

This reminds me of the parvo thread where I posted some advice, keeping in mind that many people read this forum and do searches on various topics and also keeping in mind that John Q Public might not be so informed. Instead of being thanked for being concerned, I was lambasted for implying that the people who had posted were being "dumb" ( or at least that's what I got from the tone of the replies.) We get all types here, from very knowledgeable to not very knowledgeable at all. I personally would be thanking Rumi for being concerned and pointing that out, or at least be a bit more gracious about pointing out that I was already aware of that hazzard.

So we all agree for the most part that a responsible breeder has maybe one or two litters a year. Since this woman has been breeding for about 40 years, it is ALSO entirely possible that she did only breed once a year regardless of what was acceptable and standard practice back then. What I was saying about the breeding back then is that they didn't have all the testing and other resources that we have now to help determine quality. ( OFA, CERF, etc.) They had to rely on the actual breeding. The world evolves. Many things that are acceptable and standard paractice now, won't be in 40 years.( And that relates to everything, not just dog related.) I know for a fact that the Dobeman Club of America is one of the most strictly run clubs in the US. They have a longevity program, a working aptitude program, a health foundation, a rescue and population control program, a program that's trying to educate and wipe out the breeding of albinos, a public education program. Oh and someone mentioned Sieger shows. They aren't just for GSDs, I know Rottweilers compete in them too. Not sure of what other breeds do though. Dogo is supposed to be a place for ALL dog lovers from all walks of life, purebred and mixed, show and rescue. As I said before if this kind of all inclusive bashing was going on about rescue and mixed breeds, there would be a riot. Maybe this is why some of our purebred showing members left, they didn't feel welcome to openly discuss thier side of the dog world without getting it bashed from one side to the other, even though they weren't doing anything wrong. In my opinion, yes there are some bad people who show, but there are bad apples in every bunch everywhere, in all aspects of the dog world, recuers who become hoarders for instance, but do I post stories about them in threads related to rescue? No.

Especially if you factor in that breeders back in the 60's and 70's didn't have all the testing and knowledge that we have available now and bred a lot more. Breeding was fairly different back then. The process for responsible breeders in the intervening years has changed drastically. And Cassie, this isn't a debate on how show breeders have "ruined all the breeds". We all know your stance on these things, so for just once, could we have a thread that relates to show dogs where you don't come in and slam on it?( IE the show world) Could you PLEASE just chill out for a bit? I don't mean to be curt, but I do find it fairly offensive. About as offensive as a mixed breed owner constantly hearing that mutts aren't good enough and will never compare to purebreds. I realize that everyone here is entitled to their opinons and free to express them, but if someone was saying comparable things about mixed breeds and rescue there would be a riot. It is just as offensive to me ( and I'm sure many of the other purebred fanciers here ) to see posts like that everytime ( well maybe not EVERY time, but often) when dog shows are brought up.

You also have to take into consideration how long she has been breeding. She has been breeding for about 40 years.

And for anyone with a sharp eye, recognize the dog? :wink:

Why the heck wasn't she spayed from the get go? As far as an abortion pill not being available, you STILL could have had her spayed, even with pups. :evil: Since you have been a longtime member here, you have no excuse, you KNOW BETTER. And you expect us to ohhhhh and awwww over a litter of pups that could have been VERY easily prevented? Not likely.

You adopted Boonie to care for him [i] for life[/i]. Heartworm is treatable. Many dogs live through the treatment. Why WOULDN'T you do everything possible to get him through this? So he can't fly, why not rent a car or stay put where you are or have your parents take care of him until things are sorted out? From what I remember you saying, you don't really have a job with set hours. If he has a chance of living and getting better, why [i] wouldn't [/i] you take it?
