1.   Very moving and sadly all too true in our "throw away" society...
2. :o I had no idea that newfie was a derogatory term in Canada. :o I've always just used it because saying Newfoundland is such a mouthful... I wish they would have brought him to visit this evening, but there was some family illness that they had to travel out of town for so the visit was scheduled for Monday evening. My question is: Where is Chewie while they are traveling? I am anxious to meet him.
3. Yeah, I thought that was a low weight for a newf. :-? The woman that brought Chewie back to his first owner would have taken one look at your biggest male, piled back in her car without him, and headed back to the big city!! I am a bit excited about the possibility of having a newf in the fold (wondering about my hair-collecting stamina..   . My husband is thrilled at the prospect....saying things like, "It's up to you, honey." and "Wouldn't it be great to have three big dogs." Hehehe...he is so transparent! My only worry is that the boys all get along. We will find that out Monday evening if everything stays in place on their end. I wouldn't think there would be a problem because my two are so mild-mannered and friendly. 8)
4. It's so cool that Pooh's surgery is having such fantastic results!!! I remember how worried you were when you were deciding what to do. :D
5. Okay...here's the scoop! The lady who has the dog now bought him from a breeder to keep as a pet. Her son developed a severe allergy to him so she found a buyer from Detroit. The woman purchased him and brought him back the next day!! Saying he was too big!! He only weighs 113 pounds. :-? So, the lady who now has him back is really wanting to sell him, but is beginning to realize that she will probably have to just try to find him a good home. (My sister works with this woman's friend - who has the most darling Berner...sigh. She called my sister this evening to give her the lady's phone number to let us know about the situation. She told my sister, "As soon as I heard about him I thought of Brenda and Mark!) His name is Chewie. He's neutered but not chipped and is up-to-date on all his shots. They are bringing him over next Monday evening to meet the boys. I'm sure they will have a few conversations at their house over the weekend about finding him a good home vs. selling him. My husband and I are not wanting to purchase a dog, but if one comes along that needs a good home we are willing to provide that. If they decide to sell him instead, then that is their decision. But he just did seem to "fall in our lap" so to speak. Monday seems awfully far away..... :o
6. Right now my husband is on the telephone right now with a woman who is looking for a home for a newfie that she got. She wants to find him a new home because he is too big.... I will know more when he finishes the conversation... :o
7. Both my boys prefer a big sloppy, slurpy drink. Ben loves drinking from the hose outside...Jerry is very suspicious of the hose. He might actually get some water on his fur where it is not wanted, so he usually steers clear of it.
8. This seems like a tempest in a teapot to me. :D People will always think what they like, say what they like, and post what they like. There's not a thing to be done about it. It doen't really matter in the larger scheme of things. I've gotten to the age where I don't much care what people say or think. :kciuki: Life is full of real worries. Back to dirt: I like the dirt dessert served up in a brand new plant pot complete with a fake plant stuck in the middle of it. Sit it on your table like a centerpiece. Then when dessert time comes, pull out the plant, and dish out the dirt! :D
9. Kes just wanted to buy her own little packet of treats! All she needs is a little change purse to wear on her collar...
10. It is so hot here today that this poor little nutsy squirrel was doing this instead of eating at the bird feeder....and it was only 10:00 a.m. :o I tried to do some weed pulling around the same time. I had the same reaction!
11. It's very uncomfortable here as well. We've had the air on for a week with no let-up in sight. The boys don't want to go out much and I don't blame them. Stepping outdoors is like walking into a sauna... :x School's out as of yesterday, but I didn't get my room all closed up so that means I get to go back Monday for another day of sweltering in my stifling classroom. Wah! :-? The forecast doesn't look good until the end of next week. I hope it changes. :o I am not a heat person at all.
12. Those poor kittens... The cruelty of some children is astonishing. What kind of an example have they had in their homes? Oh, that's right...NONE! :x What a sad incident.
13. I'm sorry to hear Jackie is unwell. I hope she improves soon. Don't you wish she could speak?
14. I have no doubt she will remember him! Our boys remembered the in-laws after a two-year absence. You would have thought they were their dearest friends.
15. Jerry loves hugs, head and ear rubs, belly rubs, pats, and any other attention. He enjoys flopping down on the "couch" or bed with us and rolling his head around to look at us with the soppiest expression I've ever seen. Ben is a little more dignified. No hugs allowed, but everything else is okay. He also loves a good ear rub. The grunts, wheezes, and rumbles that he produces are unbelievable... Both our boys are "leaners"...
16. Ben is indifferent to the weather - he will go out in anything except a true downpour. Jerry peers out the door. If there is a snowflake or raindrop falling from the sky he is very reluctant to go outside. I'm quite sure he must have been an "outside only" dog before we adopted him judging from the filthy condition he was in when we brought him home. I think he really enjoys his "inside life" and thinks, "I've had enough of this bad weather stuff. Not going outside in it. No thank you. Nuh-huh!" He also has a cast-iron bladder and is willing to hold it far longer than Ben can. :-? It can't be good for him.
17. She's a beauty! She is going to feel so much better when you get done with her "makeover". I can't wait to see pictures of her when you are all done with your difficult task. :D
18. You will love privacy fencing. It turns your yard into your own little retreat. :D When I lived in town I had a six foot wood fence and I loved it! We had a very snoopy back yard neighbor and it was such a relief to know he wouldn't come out and pull weeds in his garden everytime we wanted to sit out on our porch or work on the flower beds that lined the perimeter of the yard. Out here in the sticks we can't see our neighbors. Yay! We just have a chain link fence to contain the boys so they can hang out on the deck and wander about freely in their area of the yard when the weather is nice. But if I lived in town with neighbors, I'd have a wood fence! Good luck on getting a good deal. :D
19. I like my Dyson....it really gets the hair up. The turbo brush gets a workout on the futon cover at least every other day (though it could use it every day). It's the best vacuum I've owned. :D I would buy another one. Congrats on the new vacuum! 8)
20. What awful news... It's hard enough to lose a beloved dog from illness, or old age, but a road accident is really heartwrenching. As a child we lost our black cocker, Colonel, in much the same way. I am so sorry for your Aunt.
21. A happy ending! :D Your son used his head - although a little note for you to read later when you woke up would have made your life a little calmer. You are such a good person, Courtnek! :D
22. Courtnek - You have given Laurel a brand new lease on life! Awesome job from you and awesome response from Laurel. Here's how I feel about your success!! :klacz: :klacz: :smilecolros: :klacz: :klacz: Absolutely GREAT!
