1. Oh how adorable is she!!! I love her cute little feet. Again, congrats Mouse.
2. WB Jeanne :D nice to see you again. Diego is very handsome. So are you out at the farm or are you still in town? (you can email or sms me if you want to :))
3. That's what I wish they'd all do!
4. LMAO! love those!
5. Hmm that is odd. I always thought rat poison worked pretty much immediately. Arsenic does take ages to kill someone, but where do you get that stuff these days? I imagine it would be pretty hard to get a hold of some...? Did the dog get into anyone's medication, perhaps? Warfarin is used to thin the blood in a lot of patients with AF, clots etc. Just a thought... and yeah, it could have been a number of things, with the dog being so old. Another thought: you probably don't want to do this but have you thought about reporting the vet to the AVA or similar body? If he really is as incompetent as you think he is, can anything be done? Anyway I am so sorry for your client. How awful to lose a pet like that. I hope you don't feel too horrible because it was sooo not anything to do with you.
6. She's probably a lot less nervous than you, that's all I can tell you from past experience. :D She probably has to fast or something for 8 or so hours before the op (I guess? been a long time since I had an animal spayed) but I guess the vet has informed you of any pre-op requirements you need to carry out. Just try to relax, I know it's hard, but that's about all you can do! Good luck and let us know how she goes. :)
7. OH she is cute. Just to clarify, are you keeping one and your friend wants to keep the other? Anyway I hope whoever wants to keep the sisters is able to do so!
8. Oh how sad and horrid and heartbreaking. You did everything you could, Izzy, and at least that poor dog had someone kind to look after him in his final hour.  I hope you have some luck with reporting that creep, I guess if you don't you can always go back to his place with some knuckledusters eh? :evilbat:
9. Hi :) I would call the vet and get his or her opinion, take her in if you have to. Better to be safe than sorry! And let us know how she gets on.
10.  @ Pumpkin. Summed up my thoughts exactly.
11. What great news you managed to get that poor little dog out of his living hell. I would still report them, obviously they know they have committed abuse, otherwise why would they be so worried? I have no idea how animal cruelty charges work where you live but at least now you have proof they pretty much knew what they were doing to that poor dog was neglectful. You may want to take photos of how he looks now to back your story up, too. Congratulations though!
12.
Why would anyone care if their mouse is a male or female? We had a mouse once and I had no clue if it were male or female.
You may as well say well why would anyone care whether their dog is a male or female? :-?
13. Sounds pretty wrong to me, though from what you say, Anne, it appears to be a common practice? It's very disturbing and heartbreaking. What's wrong with evolution? Though who is to say it's any worse than breeding dogs for money, or whatever other dumb reason, and leaving them at the shelter to be euthanased, or dumping them by the side of the road to either turn feral and kill wildlife and livestock or get run over, caught in kangaroo traps, etc...? I don't know. Both are as bad as each other but the show breeder should really know better, or at least you'd think so. :-?
14. Guys, please try and keep the squabbling down. If you have no constructive advice to offer, just leave it ok? We don't need any more infighting and all you are doing is adding fat to the pan. I would recommend a vet visit, personally.
15. How about speak? Or shake hands, or high five or something? Bear in mind I can't do any of those with my dog , but others here have dogs who know a lot of commands. Have you thought about formal obedience and/or agility, if you're not already doing it? They are very good for keeping smart dogs like border collies happy mentally. Though if you are a PETA fan what are you even doing with a companion animal, did you not know that is "cruel"... Obviously that is where you differ from their extreme views, which is good for you and your little doggie.
16. We call it poo patrol as well. It's yucky but nothing is grosser than scooping poo out of a cat litter box.... *gag*
17.
i am sure my opinions wont be popular with you posters. I am a vegan and a supporter of Peta. What i find ironic is that you are obviously dog lovers but subjecting other animals to death and misery is somehow justified? In Korea and China they eat dog and cat just as meat eaters in n. america eat cow and pig. Whats the difference? IMO it just depends upon how one is socialized. Personally i cant understand how one can be an "animal lover" and yet hunt or eat animals.
I do not mind if dogs and cats etc etc are eaten in China, though I could never ever do it. Far be it from me to impose my cultural imperalism on other States. What bothers me is the disgusting conditions they are kept in and the cruel fashions of their deaths, just as many abbatoirs and saleyards have similar practices in the Western world. I know a lot of people who are repulsed that we Australians eat kangaroo, or "Skippy". Besides humans have been hunting since the year dot, and as Mufasa so eloquently put it, animals hunt each other too. Do you think it is cruel when a spider tortures a fly, or a cat tortures a rat or a bug? Is it any better or worse than what humans do to cows, sheep, pigs...? What I find ironic is that all the vegans and veggos I *personally* know (and I know lots because every second bloody uni student is a vegan these days) wear leather shoes...
18. I can't comment on the deer, mountain lion, coyote, wolf etc (so exotic LOL). But there are plenty of kangaroos; in fact, there are way too many and a lot of them were culled not so long ago. The land couldn't cope with so many roos (drought etc) and the roos were starving to death as well. The culling was horrible becuse the people they used weren't great shooters and a lot of them ended up dying a slow agonising death, and there was no discretion with the shooting either. To shoot mothers with joeys I thought was particularly abhorrent. I don't know what happened to the carcasses but kangaroo meat is a common pet meat here and also you can buy it for humans. It's quite strong and rich. I can understand that a cull was necessary and certainly humane if done properly, but I think there were some cruel aspects to it. Same with hunting. I could never, ever hunt but my family used to and they used to do it so they had food to eat. PETA are living in a dream world. Can't they see that we, as inhabitants of the earth with an assumed duty of care to other animals, need to protect them by killing some of them off? That sounds weird and I probbaly could have said it better but you know what I mean. :)
