That is a great cross, my husband had one before we met. I think the dog is like 14 or 15 years old now. Yes he is still living. He is very smart and very sweet. I don't think they ever had any problems with him. Even around babies he is very gentle. He is also very protective. He barks when someone he doesn't know gets near the house, but after he sees you a few times and knows your not gonna hurt anybody he is sweet as can be. He barked at me the first 4 or 5 times he saw me, but now he just sits there and waits for me to pet him. I think you have a great dog!

Huskies like to roam; they have high prey drive, are very independant thinkers, very high energy, and also good escape artists. They can be wonderful companions for the right people, but be aware that a husky is not an easy dog and does take a lot of work. The GSD in the pup, hopefully, should be enough to water down the husky temperament a bit for you if the temperament of a pure husky seems too imposing.

This reminds me of the sign at Petsmart a couple days ago...

2 GSD/Husky crosses for sale, one male and one female. Both socialized with animals and kids, great dogs. For sale for like 650. Father on site. Mother recently sold, but they did have pictures of her with the litter

It was soon torn down and thrown away, since For Sale ads are not allowed, but it gave me a :o   moment

They require a lot of mental and physical stimulation, their work drive is pretty high and needs to be taken into account, they are really smart - hence able to get into some really good trouble, they can be quite dominant dogs and are not for first time or inexperienced owners.

We have two GSDs....if they don't have anything to do, they will destroy the house. And a dog that large will do a lot of damage if their mind is set on it!

We have two holes in our brand new carpet because we are stupid and did not watch our younger (now when I say younger, I mean 4 YEARS OLD....not a puppy) GSD for an hour. He got bored. And when they get bored, they will make their own fun.

And man....so will a Sibe!!! I saw some of the best pictures on a Rescue site for Sibes.....it was one sitting in total destruction. books shredded, walls chewed through, beds eaten to pieces..... A bunch of pics of all different dogs. And the caption below was something like,
"Do you really want one now?"

Sorry... I'm not a GSD expert. My relative had 3 or 4 though and they were WAY easier than what I have read on sibes. I guess sometimes it depends on point of view also. What is easy for one person may be a nightmere for someone else (my relative was fine with the GSD's, but is having one heck of a time with the little chihuahua mix she just adopted).

it also depends a lot on the dog. owning a lab who NEVER acts like a lab has made me believe that they are all individuals. however, as far as traits go, both GSD's and Sibes are strong willed, physically powerful, and
loyal. protective. this is a dog that will need a "top dog" presence in gour household, and it better be you. some of the worst cases of dog aggression i have encountered were GSD's and Sibes allowed to be alpha in the household.

Here be the difference between a GSD and a Sibe....

You can ask a GSD to "Sit" 50 times, and he'll probably go "Okey dokey :D ".
Ask the same thing of a Siberian, he'll sit once, maybe twice if he's feelin' real good that day, and then look at you as if to say, "I did it once already, what the hell do you want me to do it again for :P ?".

The GSD has more of a desire to please it's handler, thus better execution of a given command. The only thing that pleases a Sibe is to be able to run to the next state. The Sibe is much more independent in nature, but is very much a pack oriented dog, meaning it does better when with another dog or it's people. And since it's a very high prey drive breed, please watch any cats or small animals you may have, they'll be no match for most Huskies.

Good Luck with your new pup. There have been some very good comments made and I would have to agree that it is most important that you socialise and train your pup/dog. As with all breeds it is recommended that you do dog obedience but more so with breeds that have high working drives as they enjoy having a job so to speak. Training may be hard work but the results will speak for themselfs. If you put the effert in you will have a most loving, caring, happy, healthy compainion for life and he will be a plesure to own.
This comment may not apply to you but many people often think that by socilizing and training that there dog wont make a good guard dog. This is incorrect.

This is an excerpt from Animal Planet on GSD temperment.

Thank you all for replying to my post, by the way his name is Blade.

I have a Cocker Spaniel and he is about 13 weeks old and Blades already dominating him.

Once again thank you all for your constructive feedback.
