1. I wouldn't give one thought to what family and friends who don't live with you or take care of the animals think. But I would make sure the people in your household are alright with it. Other then that as long as your able then do what you want. My Aunt and Uncle think were nuts for having 3 dogs. But who cares they don't live here or take care of them. It's none of their business they don't have one dog because my Aunt thinks dogs are too smelly and hairy. Whatever.
2.
Sorry about that... (Computer problems :x )
No big deal just my lame attempt at humor.
3. Wow!! four multiple posts. That has to be a record. I think my record is 3.
4. Toto is often called a scottie or a snauzer, and Shadow is called a collie but then I think he might have collie in him anyway who knows. He weighs 40lbs a little big for a sheltie and a little small for a collie. We call him a Shollie. Mandy no one even tries to guess her breed we know she has terrier in her and a bunch of who knows what.
5. You know that must be a popular breed mix because that looks like our dog Blackie when I was a kid too. I remember I used to climb in his doghouse with him. Then later on I saw how small the doghouse was and was shocked I could ever fit into it. He was a great dog.
6. Never mind I just realized if I put my mouse over the picture it says the names. I voted too!
7. I wanna vote but I don't know which one is your dog.
8. I call my girl Mandy a mutt too. (pictured in the middle of my signature)I have no idea what she is I know it's some sort of terrier but other than that who knows. To me she reminds me of every little stray dog that comes along on a t.v. show with the little fuzzy face. She was a stray too.
9. Oh yeah they aren't for everyone that is for sure. When I got my cairn I had never heard of one but I did a lot of reasearch good and bad and thought what have I done. We always had someone at home. We enrolled in obediance school and went through every class they had. It's been almost 5 years and I think we have an understanding although sometimes he doubts that. He will sometimes look at me with those wise eyes that seem to be saying your not very bright are you? He's personal negative qualities are that he acts up by barking and growling at other dogs when we walk although he can go to a dog park and be fine. He barks not as much as they said in that piece but he does his fair share. He comes only when he feels like it. And he every now and then chooses to pee under my desk where my feet go. There are a lot of good qualities though that make up for any negative. He is unusual in that he has never dug up anything or chewed up anything. He knows the difference between my nieces stuffed animals and his own. He sits at the table sometimes when we eat  but never goes on the table or tries to get food. I have left food in front of him and simply say mine and he doesn't touch it. He is always ready to get going and have fun even if it's just following us back and forth and watching us put away the laundry. He loves to sit right next to you to cuddle all day if you'll let him. He loves my niece they are the best of friends. He loves people and makes human friends wherever we go. He is the smartest dog I have ever known. Would I recommend him to the novice dog owner? No Way!! I just wish they could make a list like that for every breed rescue so that people can see the bad and good in the dogs they want to figure out what is best for their lifestyle.
10. I haven't run into anyone on here that has a cairn terrier like I do but if there is anyone who has had one or known one I found this hiliarious and so true I love him so much and he is the smartest dog I have ever had and has given me the biggest headache I have ever had. I found it on the Col. Potter Cairn terrier Rescue Group. [b]Aren't Cairns just like Toto? TOTO: The Other Side of the Story So, "The Wizard of Oz" is your favorite movie, you just LOVE Toto, and have always wanted a dog just like him? A dog who's small, cute, lovable, and doesn't shed all over your couch? You've done your research and learned that Cairn Terriers are (take your pick):
11.
Dog farts usually are pretty horrible. My boyfriend's dog is very cuddly...she lets you lay your head on her. So one night, she was up on the couch and I had my head laying on the lower half of her body. Suddenly I smell something horrible, and she turns around, looks at me with that classic pit bull smile, then jumps off the couch and runs away, leaving me with the awful smell. She actually has a habit of doing this...I guess she thinks it's funny.
Sorry I will have to side with the dog. If your going to take the chance of putting your head down there you must except the consequences. Just tonight Toto had some fierce gas. My God how could such a small butt create such a smell. It was the same when my niece was a baby she never did those little baby putt putts it was full blown whoppers for her. She used to make us all look at each other like please tell me you did that.
12. I have two footstools that Shadow demolished when my mother was watching him one day. She is a terrible sitter she falls asleep in the chair. I have learned my lesson don't trust mom not to go to sleep. That peppermint idea sounds good for Shadow. You know what is funny though I was just talking with someone the other day that Toto still loves toys but never touches my nieces stuffed animals. Shadow gets a hold of them but Toto has always seemed to know the difference. He'll hide them in different places and always remembers where each one is. During movies (I swear he only takes it out during movies)it's his squeaky yellow ball because Lord forbid we should watch a movie without squeaking. And no one knows where he hides it because he puts it in a different place everytime. Not even the other dogs have brought it out. I swear that dog is scary sometimes.
13. I forgot to mention don't let up on him. He might try to test you again just to be sure the rules are the same. But you can get him back on track quickly. I have had similar difficulties with Toto my cairn. Right around 10 months my sweet little boy turned into a beast. I had always been able to take away anything but this one day I went to get him out from under the bed and he had a chew bone and I didn't realize it and he didn't just snap he bit me a good one. I was bleeding all down my arm. That is when I learned about NILIF. Thank God for that. Now I can pick up anything without worrying. He's almost 5 now and a couple of times since he has tried to growl at me when picking something up and we get right back on track. It's my fault because as he does better I will get easy on him and he takes full advantage of that.
14. Alright!!It's always wonderful when you get a breakthrough. I am very happy for you and for Zebra. They just want to please us and it's up to us to figure out a way to help them understand. And you did it!! Good for you.
15. A few days ago we found a dog wandering the neighborhood. We managed to catch her and bring her home. She had no collar on so no tags either. A woman who walks her dog daily says that she sees this dog every few days so she knew where she lived. Today the dog got out again she was outside my garage when I opened the door. She isn't easy to catch so my niece and I sat there with a biscuit luring her near us until I was able to grab her. I got a collar and a leash and against my better judgement we brought her home yet again. I told the man that he can have the collar and leash and to perhaps he should put tags with her name and address on it. And to please fix the fence. Now here is the question if I see her out again would it be wrong for me to take her somewhere that could find her a home. She is a medium size beautiful little dog. I think she would be highly adoptable. I would take her if I didn't already have my legal limit and the neighbors would figure it out when I walked the dogs. Dang if only I were moving. What would you guys do?
16. Before my printer took up the space Toto used to lie right there next to the monitor. Now he sits in a chair next to mine.
17. Just because the dog is hyper doesn't mean it can't be trained it doesn't surprise me at all she was the top of her class they are very intelligent. People act like that is such a negative trait but I love that their active dogs. It sounds like what you did was find a way to channel the energy by taking her to training classes and training her at home. I think the ones that do all the repetitive behaviors just don't have a constuctive way to channel their energy. My cairn was a high energy puppy and would go and go. Then when we started a really good training schedule and had a great teacher who knew a lot about terriers he was so quick to learn. The instructor was very impressed with him. There was a Jack Russell terrier in his advance class and the two of them were the stars of the class. These little terriers are highly intelligent. I have never met a dopey terrier they like I said just need an owner who is experienced enough to channel the energy into constructive activities. Sounds like you have done a fantastic job with your dogs. Toto is going on 5 in a couple of months and he isn't going and going anymore unless there is activity in the house. He is always interested in what we are doing. He watches up whatever we are doing and has to be right there with us. Every dog I have ever had before after puppyhood would just lay there in the corner when your putting up the Christmas tree or sweeping the floor. He is interested in everything. I bet your dogs are too.
18. Wow!! today must be lost dog day. My niece spent an hour today trying to catch a neighbor's dog that got loose. After she caught him we were told by another neighbor that he gets out quite a lot and with no collar or tags. And the owners didn't seem very upset. He wouldn't even come to them. He was such a pretty little guy about medium size. I want him. If I didn't live so close I would take him and keep him next time he got loose. At this point I am not so sure if I find him again I want to return him to them. I don't know what to do.
19. Oh that first picture I love the look in his eyes. He is going to be little stinker. I have a little stinker myself they have a tendency to just wiggle themselves into your heart and stay there no matter how much trouble they get into. He is a beauty and I love his name.
20. Can I ask you a question Rotten Two? You said there was a female cairn in class I haven't ran into too many. But do you have many in your class. If so which to you find to be more wild and independent a male or female. I was told that cairns would be very independent and not interested in sitting in your lap and relaxing. But to my surprise Toto has been nothing but a love bug wanted to sit with us all the time and he was never wiggly when you held him as a puppy instead he would just lie down and relax when you held him. I was wondering if all males cairns are like that or perhaps he is just an unusual one. I keep debating whether I want to get another one some day but I am afraid I would compare them too much and mine doesn't seem to follow any of the breed guidelines.
21. That's so cute!! Toto was the smallest one in his puppy class too. It was 4 years ago but I remember a Golden retriever, a black lab, and a german shepard those are the only ones I remember but I know there were others. By the time they got to intermediate Toto was so tiny compared to all these guys. But he would come in and just take over the place he had all the dogs attention when he walked in there. He always had to tease them in some way. He would run up and get them to chase him or go under their bodies, I remember one of the dogs would just go crazy when he would do that. He was the center of attention he had this routine we made up for the last class were we had to come up with a trick. He would roll over, jump through the hoop, then sit up at the end. I miss puppy class. :(
22. I knew those were a hazard I am so paranoid I won't even leave it out unplugged.
