Pooh Bear's citronella collar isn't working any more
JackieMaya replied to JackieMaya's topic in Training
Well, I would rather not use a shock collar, but I do still have the one that I tried on Maya at one time. I guess it would be better than having the neighbors call the police again! -
Now when Pooh Bear gets barking at something, he just keeps barking, even with the citronella collar on. The spray obviously doesn't bother him any more, and I suppose he's figured out that once he empties the chamber, the spray is gone. So I'm going to have to come up with another way to stop his barking. :confused1: I also need to work on his "come." When he's not focused on birds or squirrels or whatever, he comes great, but if he's really focused on something, I have to call the girls in, and then he follows. In general, he's a very well-behaved little guy, but I still have a lot of training to do with him.

OhK..I think I've figured out why I've never been bitten....
JackieMaya replied to courtnek's topic in Everything about dogs
Well, who better to break up a bitch brawl than a bitch? LOL I've never been bit by a dog, but my last horse bit me. She (beautiful but a major bitch) bit me in the boob, and I still have a scar from that one! -
A few hours ago, Maya was on the sofa looking out the front window, and all of a sudden she started barking and growling like crazy and wouldn't stop. Then I saw the terrifying creature that she was barking at: a rocking horse in the next-door neighbor's driveway! LOL! You know, the kind that has the springs on either end. She just couldn't figure out what it was. And the darn thing just stayed in one spot and taunted her!

Yay! Loopy is good! You stay loopy, Penny, and keep getting better!

Here is the treat ball that I have. It doesn't make noise, but you put treats in it and they roll it around to get the treats out. Maya just loves it because she's a food hog, so it keeps her occupied for quite a while. I haven't put treats in it since I got Pooh Bear. I got it at Petsmart. Well, the other day when Maya was at the vet, she weighed 85 pounds which is up 12 pounds from last fall! And today Jackie got weighed and she's 90 pounds! She's NEVER weighed that much! So I'm cutting their food way back, and ONLY giving them light snacks (and limiting those), and add lots of exercise! And I want to keep Pooh Bear slim because of his hips. He's about 50 pounds. So we're all dieting! But at least they get to actually munch on something! :tard:

I have various wiggly giggly balls in the back yard. I also have a treat ball that dispenses treats, but that one doesn't make any noise. Maya LOVES the treat ball, but Jackie could care less. Pooh Bear likes ALL the toys!

Sometimes I wish Maya and Pooh Bear were debarked, but I could never imagine doing that to a dog. They're both getting better about the barking with their citronella collars. Dogs are SUPPOSED to bark, just not all the time.

Today was Jackie Day! First she went to the vet for her distemper shot, gave some blood for her heartworm test, and got some ointment in her ears for a minor ear infection (no big deal on any of those). But then it was time to get her nails clipped. OMD! You would have thought the vet was pulling her nails out! I've never heard such noises from a dog before! And he didn't get the quick at all, she was just being a real baby! My vet is very nice and he loves Jackie. He's very gentle with the dogs, so I know it wasn't because of him. Then Jackie and I went out to the barn to see my horse, Jerry. Jackie had a blast out there! She got to play with Sadie, a young Border Collie, got to visit with everyone, got to roll in freshly cleaned stalls, and got to hang out with me! She just has so much fun out there. She's my regular barn buddy now. When we got back home, Maya was SOOO glad to see her! And she was sniffing and sniffing and sniffing! I'm sure Jackie had all kinds of smells on her! So the last part of Jackie's day was great!

Have fun in your new home, Gilligan! Hopefully you'll let Izzy come and visit you!

Getting nervous about Pooh Bear's surgery next week!
JackieMaya replied to JackieMaya's topic in Everything about dogs
Okay, I talked with the vet who will be doing Pooh Bear's surgery, and he said he didn't think I would need to take any time off work the week after the surgery. The week after the surgery, I'll be taking Thursday and Friday off for sure, and maybe Wednesday, for my horse's horse show. And of course I'm taking the day after the surgery off. He also said he didn't think that Pooh Bear playing with Jackie and Maya will be a problem. I'm sure he'll let them know that he's sore, and they'll ease up on him. And now that I know that I can walk all three dogs together, that will take care of some of the exercise. And I can take him to the lake (about a half block away) for exercise too. I don't leave for work until 4:00 p.m., so that leaves plenty of time before that for his physical therapy. Okay, I'm starting to feel a little bit better. :o -
I love him! I hope he gets a forever home soon!

Hey Goo hows the Harness?
JackieMaya replied to CincoandDahlilasgirl's topic in Everything about dogs
Well, I can't tell you how the no-pull harness worked on Pooh Bear, because he chewed it in half before we got out the door! :tard: But Pooh Bear really doesn't pull much at all once we get going, so I just attach a leash to his regular collar. But I've switched from Gentle Leaders to Haltis. I think Haltis are a lot more comfortable for the dogs than the Gentle Leaders, and they work just great! I walked all three dogs together today, and Jackie and Maya both walked on a slack leash with their Haltis on. I HIGHLY recommend the Haltis! -
I walked all three dogs together today!
JackieMaya replied to JackieMaya's topic in Meetings & dog parks
With the three dogs, I probably have around 225 pounds of dog! If I didn't have Haltis on the girls, they would pull, but with the Haltis, they're just great! They were both walking on a slack leash, and so was Pooh Bear after a while. -
I do the shovel thing too when Jackie kills something (squirrel, bird). I don't want to pick it up, but with the shovel I can do it.

Have you checked with that place that sells the Wysong to see if you can have it delivered? That might be a possibility if you don't have transportation to get there. Good luck!
-
This is very frusterateing. The only place thats close to me that sells Wysong is 35miles away :o I'm going to be looking into a natural diet soulution..
Do you think that's far? I drive 40 miles round trip out to see my horse! I don't think 35 miles is that far. If they have what you want, you might as well drive over there and get it, as it sounds like they're the only ones in your area.

Today I walked all three dogs together for the first time, and it went great (once we got out the door). I was going to use the no-pull harness on Pooh Bear, and I made the mistake of putting his harness on before I put the Haltis on Jackie and Maya. Well, he chewed completely through the harness before I was even done with the Haltis. So I just attached a leash to his collar. We were all discombobulated when we first started our walk, but after we passed about 4 or 5 houses, then we all got it together. I had Jackie and Maya on my left and Pooh Bear on my right. Jackie and Maya walk together just great, so Pooh Bear walked great too. They were a very good example. Pooh Bear is just fine with just his normal collar (and he can't eat that!), so I'll stick with that. Today is the first time I've walked any of the dogs this year. We all had a good time, and we all got hot. I'm sure the kids will sleep good tonight.

I'm taking Jackie in on Friday to get her heartworm test and distemper shot, and I'm afraid to see how much she weighs if Maya weighs 85 pounds! That's what Jackie weighed last fall! Geez, I hope she's not into the 90s! I might have to put my dogs on a liquid diet along with me! :drinking:

Should pit bulls be banned in the U.S.
JackieMaya replied to AllAmericanPUP's topic in Amstaffs & Pit Bulls
Should pitbulls be banned in the US? Absolutely not!!! Should stupid dog owners, backyard breeders and puppy mills be banned in the US? Absolutely!!!
Ditto! -
Poor Fred. I hope he starts feeling better! It's hell getting old!

If I were you, I would ask my vet if there is another prescription food I could give my dog. Or is there a "recipe" he can give you so that you could mix up your own?
