2. we do with Free...the tug-o-war is her favorite game...but she knows when to quit, and the toy is put up till next time. Laurel has no interest..she gets scared being out of her box... 8)
3. no., I said HF will like this, because the weirdo's always seem to like me, and you pointed it out...    this is an odd neighborhood...all kinds, all tracks, and me...the animal activist....AC thinks I'm fighting a losing battle...I bet they cringe when they see OUR cell phones show up on their calls...
4. theres a woman around here with a Shep Mix. walks it down our sidewalk, and lets it poop on our parkway. My son has confronted her quite a few times, telling her topick up after her dog? her reply? "your a gearhead, what do you care about your property?" now, yes, my son is a mechanic....thats how he makes his living (he's 1...but our yard is clean, there is no junk laying all over it, bushes are trimmed, lawn is mowed (by him or his friends) but he does sometimes fix cars for people that dont have the money for a certified shop. they're mostly teenagers, and older people who have heard of him thru the grapevine. apparently she has come by during the day, seen him working, and assumed we dont care about our property. or she hates car mechanics, hard to tell. this usually happens during the day while I'm at work... anyway, tonight there are3 big trucks here, and lots of kids and trailers. they are loading up to go 4-wheeling tomorrow, at an approved place. she shows up with the ShepMix, and in front of my son and his friends she lets it poop on our parkway. this time he said nothing, came in to get me, and said "You better handle this. I might hurt her sorry @ss..." so I went out. and said "pick up after your dog, you've been told this before..." she LAUGHED. said"why should I clean up YOUR property, you let gear heads hang out here and cause trouble (none of them have ever been in trouble with the law, other than traffic tickets) and I said "because it IS my property, and your dog isnt welcome to poop on it" she actually said "SO, what you gonna do?" just then the cops showed up. I didnt know it, but Kyle had called them from his cell when she first showed up, about 15 minutes prior. AND they had AC with them, who checked the dogs collar, found no rabies tag and ticketed her on the spot, for not picking up, and for not having the tag. a sterongly enforced law here... she got angry and said "you're ticketing ME? what about these Low lifes here?" and the cop smiled at me and said "These "low lifes" havent broken any laws...YOU have..." myself, my son and all his friends just cracked up. she was looking very emabarassed and she stomped away... turns out Kyle had told them on the phone there was no rabies tag on the collar....big NO-NO around here...
5. ok Laurel is my ex-hunting foxhound. who has always liked to run in the yard, but never made an issue out of it. for the last 4 days, she has been jumping on me, clawing, bouncing up and down, to go outside and run. BUT she wot do it unless I go out with her, and in every case, she runs to the back of the shed, and doenst come out till I call her. last nite I went out and looked around the back of the shed, but saw nothing obvious since my flashlight has no batteries. I took the hurricane lamp, and it was useless...so tomorrow I buy batteries...what do you think? she is so hyper about this I'm almost afraid of what I might find... it isnt bothering her, whatever it is. we have had coons and possums under the shed, and for those she just tried to dig under it.....this is giving me the creeps. I dont get home before dark, and dont have time to check it out in the morning...since I dont remember it til she acts up...
6. I wonder if Alan was thinking of one of my sons favorite quotes: I dont trust anything that can bleed for 5 days and still live..." I dont know who the original person who said it was....
7. 6 as well. I didnt know about the mulch, and although I knew about the onions I didnt know what the symptoms were.....is that onlyraw onions by the way, or cooked real onions? cuz I cook with dried and my dogs never have problems...of course, theres not a ton of them either.....
8. :bday: :bday: happy Bday big guy...and many many more. 8)
9. they wont usually take on a dog or dogs close to their own size, unless they're desperate, but little dogs and cats get snatched all the time, so you have to be careful. a really hungry one might try to take yours on, but at that weight thats not likely. seems pretty well fed. not a coyote at that size, more likely a wolf.
10. he's really cute!! even with the scrunched up 'do'.... its hard to tell in the picture. is he a standard, or a smaller one?
11.
I'm sorry to hear this  Is sub-q fluids part of his treatment? Gladysse is doing amazing with them. PM if you want details. Of course, you / your evt may have already ruled it out, but I had to ask because it has done wonders for her.
he didnt feel the need for them yet. PC drinks a lot as it is and always has. they are hoping the low protein and pepsid AC type stuff will help him get a lttle better....but they told me while we could extend his time and make him comfy, the end will come eventually. he seems fine, he still plays, but he's just very skinny. he eats well if I soften up his food and mis it with canned, and tuna and salmon. he can only eat the fish now, chicken and beef and such dont stay down....most of his nutrition is coming from the dry. thanks everyone for caring so much. I may become a basket case when he goes, so dont be surprised. I love all of my animals, of course, but there is just something about his pigheaded attitude, his "my-way-or-the-highway" personality, and the fact that he was almost dumped that endears me to him thanks again... 8)
12. you all have new signatures....I feel left out... you dont love me anymore???? 8)
13. PushyCat's kidneys are bad/failing...it finally showed up in tests, altho I have suspected it for a long time. he is now on a low protein diet and some meds...but he is 18....hopehe hangs in there forever, but I know he wont.. I have a real problem with this. I've had this cat for 17 years...thru my son growing up (he cut his whiskers with baby scissors) thru Free, now thru Laurel..and and Ford...I am having a harder time with this then any other pet, because of all the emotions involved...and the time, and the memories..
14. yea!! we are a non-censored group, so add opinons to our posts.
15. au contraire....I have a swiffer wet jet (I also have hardwood floors) and its phenomenal. I sweep up the hair, then wet jet and the floor comes out nice ad shiny....now I cheat. I dont use the wetjet cleaning product, I use Mr. CLean. I washed the wetjet container in hot water, let it dry, and then filled it with Mr. Clean for hardwood. works wonderfully.
16. from the news: "At the Galveston Community Center, where 1,500 evacuees had been put on school buses to points inland, another lesson from Katrina was put into practice: To overcome the reluctance of people to evacuate without their pets, they were allowed to bring them along in crates." "It was quite a sight," said Mayor Lyda Ann Thomas. "We were able to put people on with their dog crates, their cat crates, their shopping carts. It went very well." amen.

18. I gave my money to Noah's Wish...a foundation of people who's sole purpsose is to rescue animals after catastrophes...and in some cases, they were stopped in NO by HSUS people, who didnt want their efforts to be "upstaged" NW came in with cages, food and people ready to go out and DO. thats their charter. they fly in with nothing, and build shelters on site and with little other than peoples donations, and sheer strength of will...
19. Free is bad, if it runs and she can catch it, its history. that includes squirrels, possums, mice, and a raccoon. for which I almost had to have her quarantined. because of that, I shot it. it was acting so weird I wanted it rabies testes, and it was causing major damage to my stupid, "aint givin' up" Lab X.... *sigh*
20. LOL - here its "ridies"...my dogs respond best to anything that ends with "ie"....(ridies, walkies, sprinklies....having kids does that to you) I love hounds. I also have a lab X....boy, we have stories. you write better than I do...
21. good idea and congrats. also, if your HOA put this into affect you should be grandfathered unless it was in your sales contract, so they cant really do anything anyway. Make sure your homeowners insurance knows as well, if they are one of the ones that have clauses about dangerous dogs. you might get a break on the rates. 8)
22. he is a cutie....glad its all working out. I too am curious if the bitchy neighbor is still complaining. now that he's stopped barking, make sure she doesnt find something else to rant about. some people.....ok I realize maybe they dont like dogs, and they dont have to, but they have no right to demand other people not have them because they dont like them. My son is all grown up and I no longer care to hear babies crying and little kids screaming...and I have little kids and babies on all sides of me. I dont have the right to tell them to make their kids shut up during normal every day hours, so I dont think people should have the right to make dogs shut up for occasional barking incidents. all day and non stop is one thing, but not for just once in a while...
23. once she feels better she'll be all over this. and if the powder helps it stop hurting she may let you do it again, when she realizes that the powder = less pain... 8)
24. glad she wasnt hurt. keep the stories comin'!!   "I believe I am 2 inches shorter"
