1. here ya go. send them a wedding card that says on such short notice you are not comfortable with the arrangements they have worked out for your dogs. then print this and put it in the card... "My dogs live here, they’re here to stay. you don’t like pets, be on your way. they share my home, my food, my space this is their home, this is their place. You will find dog hair on the floor, they will alert you’re at the door. they may request a little pat, a simple “no” will settle that. It gripes me when I hear you say “just how is it you live this way? they smell, they shed, they’re in the way….” WHO ASKED YOU? is all I can say…. They love me more than anyone, my voice is like the rising sun, they merely have to hear me say “C’mon girls, time to go and play” then tails wag and faces grin, they bounce and hop and make a din. They never say “no time for you”, they’re always there, to GO and DO. and if I’m sad? They’re by my side and if I’m mad? they circle wide and if I laugh, they laugh with me they understand, they always see. so once again, I say to you come visit me, but know this too…. My dogs live here, they’re here to stay. you don’t like pets, be on your way. they share my home, my food, my space this is their home, this is their place… ~Katy~ "
2. I know someone interested in a FH, after meeting Laurel and seeing how gentle she is with kids, cats, and dogs....so I researched some stuff for him..this set me off...
Feet--Fox-like. Pad full and hard. Well-arched toes. Strong nails
STRONG??? STRONG??? those damn nails are INDESTRUCTIBLE.... I had to buy a special clipper to do them. they are as hard as damn rocks.... and BLACK!! COMPLETELY BLACK!! :o :o :o :o :o clipping her nails is like doing surgery... :o
3. what kind of dog was the clydesdale? I honestly couldnt tell...
4.
tx said she was confused by other posts saying napping with dogs is a good way to bond. I have a solution for everyone as I have just installed this rule in our house: Occasional napping with the dog will only take place on the floor, he will not be invited up onto the bed or couch. As we have been doing up on the bed more lately, Buddy has gotten more pushy with us ... trying to herd and bark when he sees us getting ready to go out, giving me a warning signal when I hit a tender spot in grooming, and forgetting to wait as we go through doors.
and thats the first sign of a takeover. its good you noticed it, most people just ignore or think the dog is cranky. its not. these are calculated moves, a little at a time, trying to see just how far they can get. its easier to demote themnow then when they have taken over. TX, you need to demote star asap....
5. I know you posted this about a small dog, but now I have this visual of Laurel and Free's "litterbox"....the combination of two large playground sandboxes, filled3/4 up with sand or litter, and taking up half the basement....
6.   its making me SICK just thinking about it..drowning is a horrible death...drowning like that? Godspeed that they went quickly, without pain. and GOD FORBID I ever come across these people, for any reason.... maybe y'all better start saving bail money for me.... :evilbat: :evilbat:
7.
Court, I swear from reading some of your stories that your area is saturated with jerks. I mean, can that many a**holes all live in ONE localized area? I don't know how you put up with it as much as you do. :o Screw the busybody and the high horse she rode in on. :P
*sigh* welcome to my world.....all the nutcases appear to live here. or maybe I'm just a nutcase magnet...I do run into them frequently it seems...
8. I agree with Kendalyn. fortunately your son is ok, but the dog could very well have considered the stare down as a threat, and reacted. dog should not be on the bed when the kids are there, IMO. see what the vet has to say, then make some serious decisions on what you will do. the wounds arent too terrible, looks like one knick and some scratches from the pictures, and another dog would have been unfazed by it. however, in my household, dogs are NEVER allowed to lay teeth to flesh. This is a rule since I have always had large dogs. until you decide what to do, this dog needs to be demoted immediately. no beds, no couches. you go thru doorways first. institute NILIF immediately, dog gets nothing without earning it first. you eat before the dog, and make him watch you do it. you need to re-establish pack rules in your house for your childrens safety. good luck and I hope everything works out. until he has been demoted completely, keep the kids and him apart.
9. thanks Newfie. that helps. Free has "issues" with other dogs if crowded, I know I have posted that before. if the room wasnt so packed, she would have been fine. and I had both girls on a V-leash, which is what I walk them with, so I would have had to drag Laurel through as well. if an incident happened, it would have been bad. 8)
10. I picked the girls up from the kennel today. the waiting room is tiny, and there were 8 people and 4 dogs in there, waiting to pick up dogs and drop them off. there were 2 goldens, a lab puppy, and a GSD, who was basically nice, but did raise hackles once at the goldens....her owner had her sitting and under control in no time. the goldens owner couldnt keep them still...big goofballs that they are usually.... anyway, with the waiting room so packed, I asked if I could get my girls from the side door, rather than take them thru the lobby. I explained that Free is claustrophobic, and that if the GSD hackled-up to her, there might be an issue. the GSD owner was cool with this, and thanked me, but the Goldens owner went ballistic and said I should not have my dogs out in public if they couldnt be trusted to get along with other dogs..... I was afraid that Free would get too anxious, in that small crowded space, and would react badly if the GSD reacted.... the kennel was more than happy to accomodate me, and I picked them up at the side door. I could STILL hear this woman ranting about her. telling the receptionist that they shouldnt allow "vicious" dogs to be kept at their kennel, etc. the lady (who I have known for 10 years) finally said "she is NOT vicious....she cant tolerate enclosed and crowded spaces. yes, its unusual, but not unheard of, so please stop making a scene so we can check your dogs in and clear out this lobby..." Now I feel bad....
11. what a cutie....and see Coal? I'm NOT the only one that brags about knowing DO! except HF put it in the correct room....
12. the KIDS are home!! WOOO HOOOO!!!! they both got excellent report cards, even Laurel. I was afraid she would be really timid, but with Free there she was good. even played with the female kennel staff. One of them wants a Foxhound now.  she let a young guy bring her out, no tail between legs or anything, so slowly but surely she's getting better.....this trip may have been good for her. made her socialize more... 8)
13.
Seriously BK there is something wrong with you. Of all the people you can dream about..David Hasslehoff? I always knew you were off but now I know for sure that you arn't right in the head.
I WANT THE CAR! KITT! I'll take David if its a package deal (he is kinda cute) but I WANT that car!!! I can make KITT like me better, and then we can dump David...
14.
:o Poor dog...
why "poor dog"? its just a cut with some additional "clothes" added...I dont think it hurt him any.. 8)
15. I'm bbbaaaaccckkkkkkkk!!!! and SOOOOO glad to be home!! the kitties need lots of attention, and I get the dogs tomorrow....YAYYY!!!!
16. wait til K sees this..."another one bites tjhe dust..." LOL - welcome to Dogo addiction. it only gets better now... :)
17.
With Labs and Goldens, unfortunately many ignorant people think that they're born already trained, so they don't need to do anything with the dog. Would that be a reverse stereotype? "Labs are always friendly and smart so I don't need to do any training." GRRR!
and therin lies the whole problem. yes, AS A GENERAL RULE, Labs and Goldens are gentle souls, wanting only to please...however, they NEED someone to please, i.e. an Alpha in their lives. without one, they go the same path as any other dog. No Alpha to answer to, they become Alpha....... and then dangerous. these are BIG dogs.....they can do quite alot of damage if given the oppotunity....
18. well, I found a way to get here, cumbersome as it is...I borrowed a wireless keyboard from work, and a a TV/Internet adaptor, since they have cable here, and jury rigged an internet hookup...basicllly a wireless router (also borrowed) and cable/internet. this is very slow and cumbersome....they offer internet service here thru dialup, I kinda, um...modified it.... LOL this TV makes a very poor monitor....
19. I'm in a training class, using their laptops and in-house network. I might be able to pop in a few times, but not for hours on end, and I have no internet access from the hotel.... :(
20. I'm with ya. and K, and the newbies SaraQ and Aussiemom. see ya in a different thread, next Friday....
21.
No banning.....she's neat. Try poking her with a stick next! Let's see what she does then!
     no K, dont ban her, I'm having too much fun with this tonight, and am going to miss it all next week... as far as your question, a bazillion pages ago, you cant type in caps on PF without getting a warning after about the 6th letter. you're "yelling"... (they have apparently never seen me REALLY yell...   ) I think maybe they dont realize that there are words that need emphasis that are MORE (theres me, typing in caps again) then 6 letters long... and again, I point out....I posted about ALL of us busting our butts to help DAL in PREVIOUS posts and issues....she has chosen to ignore that. it reminds me of my hound. Hounds have selective hearing, did you know that? If they are off on a scent, they wont respond to ANYTHING other than that scent... Kayshound, you on a scent? a mission? or just too full of yourself? I kinda think the latter latter, since there were 3 choices...dont want to confuse you or anything...
22. GO K!!! yes we love it here...must be something in the air, or the posts, or the fact that we're NOT treated like children who cant think for ourselves... IMAGINE THAT. (on PF, you get a warning for posting in caps...I bet Kays has that warning too...)
