Guest Anonymous
This may be a long post but if you are interested in inexpensive, no preservative, easy to make, high protein, muscle building treats, for training, or, just to let your dog know how much you love them...please view this cause it took me awhile to do haha If you do not like any of the listed ingredients, or do not have them in your area, you can substitute to your preference. Blitz' Home Baked Liver Bites Blitz says they're barktabuloussSssSssSSsSs! If you want to make the entire pound of liver which is what I do, you will obviously need double what is listed, or, you can use the entire pound for one batch instead of two. 1/3 cup of milk 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil 1 tablespoon of garlic salt or you can use a clove or two of fresh garlic Step #1 Preheat oven to 350f degrees Grease or butter 13x9 inch baking pan so treats will not stick to pan Empty box of Jiffy Corn Muffin Mix into large mixing bowl Step #2 Add liver, milk, oil and garlic to blender Blend a few minutes until you have a well blended liquid with no chunks of liver Step #3 Add the well blended liver mixture to the bowl with the Jiffy Corn Muffin Step #4 Use the electric hand mixer or large bowl mixer to mix the liver mixture and the Jiffy Corn Muffin Mix. Mix well until there are barely any bumps then pour mixture evenly into 13x9 inch baking pan Step #5 Let the observant and anxious doggy lick the bowl and save you some time doing dishes haha Step #6 Bake at 350f degrees about 15-25 minutes or until golden brown and edges are darker. Remove from oven and let cool. Cut into strips and whatever size pieces you like. Put in sandwich bags and store in refrigerator (will stay fresh for weeks) Now make your furkids work for them and let Blitz and I know how your furkids respond to them! Liz
Now that is definitely male friendly haha. Or for anyone who claims they can't bake-all the steps are right there. :D Bogart says, mmmmm, liver treats........good. I like the picture of Blitz licking out the bowl. :eating:
AllAmericanPUP
I would make them but liver is so disgusting!!!
Guest Anonymous
I agree liver is pretty gross, but they are inexpensive and much better than anything you will buy at the grocery store. These treats are also high protein and keep a nice amount of muscle on Blitz. Garlic helps keep fleas away and well...every dog I have given them to just loves them! imported_Kat
I used to use liver cake to train with Meg, but the smell is totally foul and really turns me so she settles for dry kibble that won't stink out my pocket. I can remember at Crufts 3 years ago I was in an Obedience comp and we were made to show our hands to the judge before entering. So many of the competitors had their hands rubbed over liver and were made to go wash them haha!

ObedienceGrrl
B Bop.....I make those!!!!!!!!!!!!! Except, I use tiny muffin tins to pour my 'gunk' in. I really don't want to call it batter..... But you are right....my boys LOVE it. It's my obedience lure! Except, I WILL NOT put it in my mouth. I use cheese for that......
BuddysMom
I'll try it! I was thinking about switching to a natural treat. I'll have to use olive oil (it's all we have) and will subtitute the jiffy with straight corn meal because Buddy doesn't need the sugar calories. Thanks and I'll let you know how it goes! Hmmm maybe kitty Gladysse will like them too, cut in smaller bits ...
imported_nea
I tried it today. Was a bit of a disaster, as I got into the spirit of things and ended up adding a whole bunch of "extras", which was not such a good idea. But even though its a bit gooey, and smelly, and generally discusting looking, Webby LOVES it! :D I put some on his dinner to make it more appetizing (the dumb dog has become a bit picky :x) and he ate the "yummy" liver part and left the kibble.
Guest Anonymous
desertlady, if you don't want to use the corn muffin mix because of sugar, you can try corn meal or whole grain flour and add the flour to the blended mix of liver, milk, egg, oil and garlic and use the hand mixer, until you have a mixture that isn't too thin or too thick...you should be able to pour most of it and use a spatula or spoon to scoop out the rest. I don't mind making them anymore and Blitz just lovesssssss them!
Guest Anonymous
rofl hahhaha too funny! But here is the catch...bugs move, bite and sting! Liver doesn't haha I make hard, peanut butter and apple dog biscuits too.

Guest Anonymous
I have read many places that cheese is NOT good for dogs. If anyone else gives this recipe a shot be sure to let Blitz and I know how your dogs respond to them.
imported_Matty
I find liver so cheap I just boil liver and slice it up in small peices for training treats.
imported_Matty
I have read many places that cheese is NOT good for dogs
As far as cheese goes, most animals like cats and dogs are lactose intolerant. In "some" animals milk products may cause diarrhea. Even with humans milk products are the #1 reason behind allergies and other such problems (ie ear aches etc.). Some people cannot tolerate lactose either. Most animals when they are weaned never drink or have a need for milk again in their adult life. I give my dogs cheese and milk (left over from cereal in morning) my dogs seem to do AOK with lactose in small quanities. Of course, milk products like yogurts is really good for dogs with all that live bacterial cultures in it.

Malamum
That recipe sounds really good. I've printed it out with the intention of making it at some stage. I don't know how I'm going to go blending the liver - I may vomit. If not I think I will at least stand there heaving   My dogs have offal night once a week. Liver nights are the worst. I usually shut my eyes when I'm putting it in their bowls - it's that gross.
Malamum
I have a question. Does an egg need to be added? I see an egg in the first picture but there is no mention of an egg in your text.
imported_Kat
when I train Meg, I always treat her with cheese and have had no problems. The only instances where I would advise against cheese would be for animals that have severe allergies as dairy products can make a situation worse. ObedienceGrrl
Mal.... I have made these for a long time....and I never use an egg.... In fact, I just made them Tuesday for class. They come out nicely without one....but I do'nt see what adding one could hurt!
Guest Anonymous
Yes Mal I use an egg...just didn't add it in the text my bad. When you follow the recipe on the Jiffy package it will call for an egg.
TDG
for any of you who can't stand dealing with raw liver, you can buy human grade liver powder at the health food store or order it online. a good brand is "now foods", 12 oz will cost you around $6 or so. it's a very light weight powder, so you get a lot in one container.
