thanks so much, I couldn't be happier :iloveyou: well I could if the breeder was more responsible. I feel sorry for all of the other little dogs that go home with people who don't care or see them as a burden when they find out how much care they need

Terra I have great respect for you as do many other members on this board for asking when you needed advice or were unsure to make sure that your puppy is a healthy and happy little furbutt. Enjoy her and we will look forward to hearing about her adventures and sharing her photos too. You are doing a great job with her and are being a very responsible owner. :fadein:

Ok all, well I had me a scare last night. I notices Bell was not eating very much yesterday. I thought well she is not all that hungry. That was at lunch time. Diner time she ate even less. Then we took her outside to go potty and she had diarrhea shooting out of her. when we thought she was done we brought her back in. and she did it to more times on the wee wee pads. She was still playing and running around. A friend of mine was here and we noticed that she was twitching when she laid down on us, it was like she could not get comfortable. But for her last feeding she still did not eat... So I stayed up late last night with her to make sure that she would at least drink a little something and gave her Nutri-cal. She did go to bed great last night and then ate wonderfully this morning. Now I had used someone's suggestion about putting a little bit of milk in her food. So I was wondering if maybe it was the milk. Or if I should be worried. Other then not eating last night and the little diahrea she is fine. She did eat this morning, still waiting to see if there is more diahrea

I am having a hard time getting her to drink water. I think I am going to have to start giving it to her in a dropper. And force her to drink. I know yesterday she only took a couple drinks. And today she has not drank anything. But she is still going to the bathroom. I think because I put so much water in her food.

I sure will do it. I am willing to try anything.
Can you try chicken broth or pedialyte to get some fluids in her?
Yes, try that even with an eyedropper if need be. They can become dehydrated so easily. I had to keep a cat hydrated with an eyedropper & chicken broth once, if not it would have died.

I'm waiting for pictures too!

Wow! We deffently need more responsible owners like you in the world! :D

I'm thinking maybe your babe should go get a check at the vets? Since she has shown improvement, but is still having problems, it may be good to get her into the vet and checked over to make sure nothing really serious is going on

Other then that, keep up what your doing and what people have suggested! You've gotten a lot of good advice here, and I'm so glad your taking it! :D

P.S.
Pictures please! :P

I was the one that suggested milk, but some dogs dont handle cow milk well. You may be better just using the rice for a while...

hope my suggestion didnt make her sick...

You gave her cow's milk? Please do not give cow's milk to puppies or kittens. It just gives them loose stools, and a puppy as tiny as this could dehydrate very rapidly.

If this puppy has diarrhea and is not drinking, I suggest you take her to the vet very soon.

she's been mixing (hopefully) a small amount of cows milk with her food. at my suggestion, she has blood sugar issues. we were hoping to stabilize her blood sugar this way. I knew it was a risk...but maybe worth a try.

apparently, didnt work. sorry, Terra.

maybe the rice would work better...

she has low blood sugar issues.

Hypoglycemia is not unusual in teeny Chi puppies. If someone else posted this or I am repeating advice, sorry. I didn't read the whole thread.

This is from a Chi site:
Hypoglycemia is a condition in which the chihuahua's blood sugar level drops to an extremely low level, causing "sugar shock." When levels of glucose in the blood drop rapidly, the dog's body and brain are deprived of essential nutrients. The results of hypoglycemia can be weakness, seizures, coma, and in severe cases, death.

Because chihuahuas are so small, they can be prone to hypoglycemia, especially when they are very young. Hypoglycemia is usually caused by stress, illness, lack of food, or by using up stored energy without it being replenished.

It is important to make sure that young puppies and very tiny chihuahuas eat regularly throughout the day. Another preventative for hypoglycemia is regular feeding of a high-calorie supplement called Nutrical, available from your veterinarian or your local pet store.

If you suspect that your chihuahua is hypoglycemic, call your vet AT ONCE as this condition can be quickly fatal.

she's been giving her nutrical, and a little milk, because milk offers both high carbs and protein at the same time. I sugested it. she needs both. She was taken from her mother at 5 1/2 weeks and has shown typical low blood sugar issues. shaking, low water intake, low urination. I did say at the beginning some dogs dont tolerate cows milk well. I also suggested rice, both for carbs and water intake. the milk isnt working out, so I'm thinking the rice and the nutrical may be the best way to go.

I wanted to say thank you so much to everyone for all of the advice. You all have really helped me and made me feel so much better. I love this site so much and all the people that have left me posts. You all are wonderful :iloveyou: :loveu: :laola:
As for the milk. I did only put maybe a teaspoon with his food to soften it. I think I will stick with water and maybe a very small amount of broth.
I will put some pictures on, but can't copy and paste. I need to figure out how to do it first.

A teeny bit of Karo syrup can also be given between meals to keep tiny puppies' blood sugar up. Not sure if that's already been suggested, but worth a try if not.

Go to your MSN pictures, click in the picture you want to post to make it full size, then RIGHT click on the picture, when the box comes up click properties (at the bottom). When THAT box comes up you will see some gibberish & one of them will say Address URL on the right, hightlight the WHOLE address beginning with http:\ and copy. It will be a long address to be sure to get all of it or it won;t work. On your post click on the little grey box up top that says URL (it is at the end under the subject line). It will place it on your post. THEN PASTE the address of your picture & hit the URL button again & it will placed on your post. It sounds harder than it is. You can practice by clicking "preview" instead of "submit" until you get it right. I hope I made sense!
