I saw them on a tape I had of the 2002 Nippo Championships (this is the biggest Shiba/Japanese dog show in the world.) There were a ton of Shibas, but not many Shikokus there either. Just getting one to this country would probably cost a small fortune. I think they are basically a bigger Shiba, and instead of using them to hunt birds, they hunt wild boar with them. Quote

Luka-pop Posted May 15, 2003 Posted May 15, 2003 I love all Japanese breeds. - shibas, akitas, shikokus, and the ainus (hokkaido) I was actually almost going to get a shiba, but decided to rescue Luka instead. According to this Japanese website, http://www.na.rim.or.jp/~ako/shikoku.html, it's 49.748yen (about $500) to ship one from Tokyo to New York, in a 60X45X50cm cage. Plus the price of the dog. Quote

Luka-pop Posted May 16, 2003 Posted May 16, 2003 Yep! They have a bunch of colors. The most common is red, but they also have red with a little black overlay (sesame), or black with tan markings, which are all preferred by the AKC. However, I have seen all tan ones too. Quote

imported_Debbie Posted May 17, 2003 Posted May 17, 2003 My all time favorite Japanese breed is the Akita, they are gorgeous !! My last dog, Nakita , was 1/2 Akita and 1/2 Rottweiler. She was the best dog, her only fault was being dog aggressive. She was my faithful companion/shadow for 15yr. :angel: Quote
