1. I got bit by a collie once so I'm most afraid of them. No offense to anyone who has one lol. My dog has beaten up one of the neighborhod pitbulls before on his chain. My brother went out there to scare it away but it was obvious who'd win the fight, Smokie likes to fight- unfortuantely. But then again you'd never here about a lab kicking a pits ass. And yes the pit did try to fight back but Smokes too viscous around other animals-- except for small dogs. He doesnt care much about them. Thats a fearless poodle, I'll tell ya! Too bad people will find humor in this though.
2. Does your dog get spooked easy?? Like thunder or just loud noises or things in general? Smokie is afraid of more stuff then average I think. He's deathy afraid of thunder, and loud noises that sound like thunder. Once a guy came to repair the roof and Smoke probably thought it was thunder and jumped in the shower with my little cousin Cassie and wouldn't get out. Ofcourse my mom was laughing too hard, to get him out to make things worse. He's afraid of the bass fish too that sings. I think the moose one they came out with would seriously give him a heart attack. The kitchen magnet is a play payphone that rings, and he's afraid of it. He's really just afraid of lot of things, it seems unusual, because outside he is the big protector - and fearless.
3. Sending positive thoughts, and thats heartbreaking. She's beautiful!
4.

because my dog is VERY animal aggresive when they come in our yard. He beat up a pitbull before on his chain and made a boxer walk away bleeding. Luckily theres been no serious incidents. While we are out walking he does not try to fight any dog he ignores them-- it's just if they come in our yard - he's fuming mad! And guess what-- my dogs a lab! He's the sweetest animal towards most people but he does not like other animals at all. Except for little dogs - he just pretty much ignores them.
I just wanted to say, it sounds like your dog is TERRITORIAL aggressive, NOT animal aggressive since he's only aggressive when dogs come onto his property. I had a Dog/Human aggressive dog and she was aggressive to other dogs and people no matter where she was. BM - It sounds like you think the Pit Bull Owner Population is doing nothing about BSL... is that what you think, honestly? This is an honest question, I'm not trying to start a fight. Because there are a LOT of people out there working their a** off for these dogs. And like Alan said, sometimes the best thing to do is take on the situation one dog at a time. Getting just one of these dogs (or ANY dog!) out of a bad situation may not make the biggest dent into fixing the problem... but to that one dog it means the world, and that in itself is more than enough for me. You would not believe the ammount of letters that get written to "higher athority" who try to crack the whip on BSL. You would not believe the amount of organizations out there dedicated to saving these dogs, educating ignorent people and making a difference in the lives of these dogs. There ARE a lot of things happening to try and fix this problem. There are a LOT of people busting thier balls to make a difference. And the more people who do all they can the better. The more people who are educated and understand where this problem is comming from the better. If we can boost the population of educated people, and boost the population of people who love, cherish, and will do anything for these dogs then we have a bigger chance of fighting it. If we have more people doing all this, and less people wanting these dogs for all the wrong reasons, then we CAN make a difference. It's just a matter of who's side you (as in people in general, not YOU BM  ) want to be on. You can sit there and do nothing... you can join the "good side" and try to help these dogs, or join the "dark side" and make the problem worse. The dark side doesn't just include dog fighting thugs on the streets... it includes IGNORENT people who don't know better, and people who are all for BSL. Now that's a big group of people... because the majority of that group are ignorent people. The more GOOD media about these dogs the better, because then maybe... just maybe... we could get more GOOD media than bad out there, and people will start to believe that good media... cuz lets face it, a LOT of people will believe what they are told through the media, without trying to further educate themselves on the subject.
Yeah I guess your right, he's territorial aggresive. I wondered if people think that he's agressive because he defends his yard, though. You read a lot into my short reply. The only thing I want for the animals is proper care. That's the same thing I'd hope for all animals. I don't believe pitbull owners arent doing anything-- that's simply not true. Theres a lot of great pitbull owners out there. I think some are lazy and don't take good care of their dogs - but that goes for any breed. I have to go my econ class now, bbl to explain more probably.
5. Maybe you could try pressing on it a little to see if he's in pain? Ifso I'd take him to the vet. Once when Smokie hurt himself the vet had us give him half a apirin for a couple days seemed to help him out. Ofcourse it had to be inside a hamburger..for him to eat it lol.
6. I have completely changed my stance somewhat in pitbulls. I don't think they should be in residential neighborhoods without a fenced yard, because people are stupid and don't know how to take care of their dogs. I look at pitbulls and how they can be agressive to other dogs-- but yet it's kind of being a hypocrite. . because my dog is VERY animal aggresive when they come in our yard.
7. Ugh! My friend Hallie could never keep her dog leashed up in the yard. I'm so suprised they didn't get that dman dog taken away from her I was walking home one night froma friends and her damn dog started growling at me and trying to bite me. I did something I shouldn't have. I kicked the dog by the head because I didn't want to get bit. I didn't do it hard but enough for him to yelp and run away. Her dog was huge too I wasn't kicking a little dog. He was at least over 70lbs. Edited to add, the dog was fine I called my friend right after it happened. I kicked it on it's side by it's head to turn it away from biting me. That sounded all wrong. I'd call the cops- and have them warn him to keep his dog on a leash. Just think if your dog got seriously huirt they would be responsible for a vet bill. Maybe they can warn them about the leash laws.
8. Awww those are all cute stories. I don't have any to share like that. Smokie had a toy puppy he liked for a while.. We'd call it his baby because it was his fav toy (I think cuz it was soft) at least until he ripped the head off (him and my dad playing war)- and the toy had to go in the garbage.
9. There should be laws protecting this kind of idocracy.
10. Awww he sure is cute! I hope he gets a happy home!
11. What a great story. I'm so glad she found a happy home!
12. Sorry to bump an old topic - Really I didn't know that? I mean I could guess it with cats and all the black cat superstition. Actually the first dogs I'd probably go to our the black ones. I just happened to I guess prefer those. Yeah I just want more of a barker that alert me so I can grab my gun. I'm JUST KIDDING. I don't condone personal ownership (other then hunting) of guns in fact I am very much against them.
13. Awwww that was so beautiful. You made me miss Smokie even more. Happy birthday to her
14. That is adorable! When I go home and Smokie's tired. He makes sure I follow him to my bedroom and he hops up on my bed and wants me to lay up there with him lol. It's cute how he wants to cuddle.
15. Awww that sounds so fun! Hope you see you guys on the news tonight {I live too far away}
16. Well I'm glad she took on the tough task of animal control. It's something I could never do. I think she'll learn with time. Not everybody knows everything when starting a job. Give it time and she'll learn.
17. Do your dogs play with them? Or show no interest? We bought smokie one last time we went home and he didn't realy show any interst. That toy was an expensive one too, 8 bucks! I bought him a toy slipper that was like 88 cents and ofcourse he loved that one! Well today I found out that he got two treats out of it-- after like a week of showing no interest.. I think my mom or dad probably helped him get them out and neglected to tell me that part lol.
18.
I think that all the Animal Cops shows are wonderful. The people who work for the ASPCA love animals and try to do whatever they can to rescue animals from bad situations and to find them forever homes whenever possible. Unfortunately, not all cities have sufficient facilities to be able to save all the animals. The animals who are aggressive (no matter what breed) are often termed unadoptable because they don't have the manpower to rehabilitate the animals. I saw one show where two small breed dogs (don't remember what breed) were confiscated from their owner because they let them loose all the time and they bit several people. One of the dogs was deemed adoptable and the other was deemed too aggressive and was ordered put to sleep. In Detroit, any pitbull that is confiscated is put to sleep because that is the law there because of the huge dog fighting problem there. It's not what the Animal Control people want to do, but they have no choice. Like someone else posted, the NY ASPCA has rehomed many pit bulls and has shown that they can be a great family dog. Unfortunately, most of the people who watch the Animal Cop shows are animal lovers, not the animal abusers/horders/idiot owners who SHOULD be watching the show.
I totally agree with you. I love animal cops and animal precinct. I'll come back and post more later didn't get to read the 2nd page.
19. Oh no no. I don't want a serious type of guard dog. I just want one that will be protective over my family. I will not train it to bite, I mainly want the dogs to bark and actually warn me when somebody's coming up. Akita's are really pretty... The ones that are popular mixes up here are black labs/german shepards, so I bet thats what I will probably end up having. I do think Rottrielers are pretty and a friend of mine has boxers which are adorable. Now that I really think about it a little more, I think I want something along the line of German Shepards/Labs. I'm defiently going to do my homework before I decide which type of breed I want. All the dog breed quizes I do online come up with labs.. lol! I'd love to hear any more kinds of suggestions. And I'm checking out the Akita site as we speak! Thanks!
20. I don't even think I really know what an Akita is, but I'm off to do some research. Wow 100 lbs? My boyfriends gonna love that one, lol. I'll keep in mind those rescues but kind of right underneath Canada, in the Midwest? Im interested in St Benards! I think they are fascinating but they just seem so big and sweet. DrJ I don't mind a shedding dog. My black lab is a bit of a shredder at all. My black lab Smokie is a bit of a shedder, you should see my bed at home when he jumps off... lol. He loves being brushed too! GMama I will look that up on Amazon right now. I go to the library a lot and check out the dog section, I've never seen anything like that but I may have overlooked it. I'm not that expierenced of an owner but until a couple years ago I mainly took care (I moved away from home) a high energy level black lab. Well he's lazy equally as well as the energy level. Before him we had a mixed mutt, and a german shepard. And my lab Smokie -- he sometimes sleeps through when people comes at night otherwise he growls if it's dark and he can't tell who you are. All the person would have to do is say go get your toy, and his tail would start wagging and they'd be his friend lol. I guess it don't really matter to me but I kind of did want something along the lines of protection dogs. I also want 2 dogs not just one.
21. Protective Breeds? Kind of like guarder dogs but they wouldn't be subjected to that kind of life believe me. I will get them from a shelter, so mixes are wonderful.. but just want to get a general idea of what breed types. The dogs will be indoor dogs but I would like dogs that like to be outdoors too and keep in mind that we do have COLD winters especially where Im from in MI. and tons of snow! When I'm finished my 2 years of school here, and my boyfriend will be away on some weekends, so I want to get some type of breed I will feel safe with. I prefer they be large like 60lbs and up.
22. Well.. In the next couple years when I plan on getting dogs. I will most likely adopt from a shelter but the show dogs do kind of interest me (i know bad right).. I want to live a little out of town ,and sometimes I'll be by myself so I want either My boyfriend would probably faint if he saw this list. German Shepards Bulldogs (too cold for them here though I bet) Pitbull mixes Rott Reilers Labrador Retreivers I really want to look into a good protective breed... and get that kind of personality. And as for a smaller dog Cavalier King Charles Spaniel deffinetly.
23. I didn't read all the applies yet but German Shepard stuck out with me.
24. I'm happy to hear that you adopted from a shelter as well. That's the biggest crock ever, im with these guys!
