1. I don't blame you for being upset! She IS a moron! I'm surprised they're still letting her be around the dogs. Maybe she should work with the cats instead. Or maybe she should volunteer in the office so she isn't around animals at all!
2. This morning when the girls were in the back yard, they both started barking (and Jackie doesn't bark outside very often). Then I saw a few people running down the street on the block behind me. Then their white poodle ran into the yard behind my yard. Jackie ran up to the fence and did the whirleybird tail and made friends with the poodle through the fence until the people were able to pick him up. There were about 10 people trying to catch the dog! Jackie was quite proud of herself!
3. I had moved back into my parents' house to take care of my dad when he was dying of cancer. It's a big house with a big fenced yard, and my dad (and my whole family) has always been a big dog lover. I had been dog-less for about 20 years when I was living in apartments, so I figured it would be great to get a dog to keep my dad company when I was gone to work. And we had just put my mom in a nursing home with Alzheimer's. I saw Jackie's picture on Petfinder.com and just fell in love with her. Her big ol' tongue was hanging out, and she just had that happy face and eyes that just grabbed me. And I really liked her coloring too. My dad, brother and I went to the foster family's house to meet Jackie, and we all fell in love with her. I filled out the paperwork, paid the money and took her home that day. Jackie made my dad laugh just by being a goofy dog during the worst time of his life when he was very depressed. And she helped me deal with the grief of basically losing both parents at the same time. Six months later, I decided to get another dog for Jackie, and saw Maya's picture on Petfinder.com. I took Jackie to Maya's foster home to meet her, and they got along great. I had to go to work that day, so I went back the next day and brought Maya home. She and Jackie have been best friends ever since! 4. I have two females who are the best of friends. I adopted them six months apart, when they were 1-1/2 years old. Now they're 4 years old. They've been best friends since day one. It worked out fabulous for me.
5. My girls are the pros at weird sleeping positions (especially Maya)! Here's Maya in the recliner: Here's Jackie (her tummy was red because she had just been spayed): Here's Jackie and Maya:
6.
he looks nothing like a husky though, except he sticks his tail up and it kinda curls a little towards his back.
Maya is Golden/Husky and her tail does the same exact thing! She doesn't look Husky at all either. So..... Where are the pictures of Toby! We can't wait much longer!
7. Bummer! I know you can't use a lot of things on puppies, so that's unfortunate. I guess in the meantime you'll just have to stick with the medicated shampoo, and hopefully that'll help. Good luck!
8. Wow, she's really pretty! I should bad myself from Petfinder.com, because I always end up finding a dog that I would really like to get, but I DON'T need 3 dogs! Hillside, how can you leave balmy Minnesota? And for balmy Iowa? LOL
9.
As far as Thoughbreds and Standard breds I think they are just plan high strung. Just my opinion, as I said before I aint no expert Im just telling it as I reads it
Just to let you know that I have a Thoroughbred gelding, and he's the most laid-back, well-behaved horse I've ever had! And he was a race horse when he was 3 years old too! But I did have another Thoroughbred gelding (who was a jumper) about 10 years ago, and he was pretty hot, but he was a blast to ride!
10. Congratulations on your new puppy! How exciting! I can't wait to see pictures and also to see what you end up naming him! How fun!
11. Congratulations on making Cinco a part of your family and giving him a new, happy life! He looks like he's definitely made himself at home!
12. I'm so sorry to hear that Bongo is approaching the end of what's been a wonderful, happy life with you. Please give him a hug from me, Jackie and Maya. And have someone give YOU a hug too!
13. ... is that probably about 95% of the people who watch it are responsible, caring pet owners like us who are appalled at the animal abuse that we see on the shows. I doubt if many of the viewers are the ones who really need to watch the show: the animal abusers, collectors, etc. And that's really unfortunate. Just a personal observation here.
14. The owner of the stable I used to board my horses at had a lab who had to have a leg amputated due to bone cancer. The dog could run just as fast on three legs as he could on four, and he didn't know he had a problem. But one day the dog came into the barn and one of the horses just freaked out when she saw a three-legged dog come into the barn, as if he was a creature from outer space. The horse's owner said it was like having a little kid pointing at someone in a wheelchair. Some animals accept odd things differently than others do. You shouldn't feel embarrassed or bad because of how Zebra acted. It sounds like the ladies understood dogs and how they can be afraid of different things. And it sounds like Zebra got over it too.
15. I also think that it would be better if you waited. And since Stryker can come over for playtimes with Bailey, that would help with his boredome. Jackie and Maya were 1-1/2 years old when I adopted them, and I think that's the perfect age. They were all housebroken and out of the destructive puppy stage, yet they were young enough to still have a lot of goofy puppy left in them (and they still do at 4 years old). If you don't have the time to devote to bringing up a puppy (which I didn't) it's a great age to adopt.
16. Good for you and your mom for volunteering at the shelter! I don't know if I could do it. I would want to take all the dogs home with me!
17. Just voted for today, and Travis is behind first place by only four votes!
18.
Then to top it off, the guy who won was talking about how one of those girls was crying over "it" and how that made him want "it" even more, and I cannot stand it when people call their dog an "it."
Grrr, that drives me crazy too! To me, that indicates someone who's dog is an "accessory." If I'm talking to someone about their pet, if I don't know what sex the animal is, I still don't refer to him/her as it. I would rather say "her" and get corrected on the sex than to say "what's it's name?"
If the show producers were really concerned about rescuing animals, they would show the 2 families that didn't "win" the main dog going to a shelter to adopt a different dog.
Amen to that!
19. Personally, I'm against any cropping or docking, but I know that with some breeds it's standard practice. But cropping a mutt? Get real! Let the poor dog be a dog!
20. I like watching all of the animal cop shows on Animal Planet. They're all very passionate about making sure animals are cared for the way they should be, and to get them away from bad situations.
21. I just voted again. Travis is still in second place but only needs 7 votes.
22. This is what they say about Pooh-Bear:
Notes: Pooh Bear is a 10 month old neutered male Australian shepherd mix. He has a fluffy black and tan coat that will need regular brushing, and he will shed. Weighs about 50#. Pooh is as sweet as a dog can be!!! He is still very much a pup, and will need a bunch of his own chew toys
23. Just voted again. Travis is in second with 73 and the first one has 79. Getting REAL close!
24. I would love to adopt him, but I really think that 3 dogs would be too many for me. I'm going to be competing in horse shows this summer, so I just don't think I have the time to devote to 3 dogs and a horse and a full-time job and my own business that I just started up. If I won the lottery and didn't have to work any more, then I could do it (like that's going to happen). I should just stop looking! Shame on me! I can't save ALL the dogs! My heart is bigger than my brains!
25. Remember this dog that looked like a mini-Jackie? I think he was adopted out from the shelter I got Jackie and Maya from, but now he's back. He's just the cutest little thing, and he could be Jackie's little brother! He's a 10-month old Australian Shepherd mix (probably a year old now). Why do I do this to myself! I should know better than to look at the dogs on Petfinder.com. I really can't adopt another dog at this time in my life.
