Congratulations, DAL! He's just gorgeous! I'm so glad you got him, and I think the name fits! -
I'm so sorry to hear about your Gemma. What a tragedy, and what a freak thing! You'll have Gemma's memories with you forever.
-
She's absolutely gorgeous! And you can tell how sweet she is. Congratulations! (More pictures please!)

DAL, I'm so very sorry you lost your little Boonie. At least you can rest assured that for the short time he was with you, he had a wonderful life and was loved.

Here in Minnesota (where we usually have tons of snow), we've only gotten 2 inches TOTAL of snow! It's pretty pathetic! I posted a picture of Jackie and Maya in the snow on the Pictures board.

Jupiter is just gorgeous! I'm glad the home visit went well, and good luck in getting him!
Mine must sit for a treat as well, but once they get it, they both take off in different directions to eat it!
Jackie and Maya do the same thing! If they get their treats as they're going outside, they go their separate ways out there. But if they're inside, Jackie goes downstairs to eat her treat and Maya stays put and eats hers.

My sister is on her second Great Pyrenese. The one she had before (about 25 years ago) was just a pet, but the one she has now lives out with and guards her flock of sheep in Texas. My sister is allergic to dogs, so all her dogs are outside dogs (with shelters). Her Pyr is extremely friendly to people, and I don't think he barks more than any other dog (UNLESS there's a coyote or dog pack out there). She doesn't let him out with her other dogs. I love the giant breeds. I especially like Newfies. Another giant breed I really like is the Tibetan Mastiff. They're just gorgeous dogs. Good luck and keep us posted!

DAL, the Golden Retriever I used to have, Cracker, had heartworm when he was 2 years old, and had the treatment, and he made a complete recovery and was a very healthy, happy dog!

Why people need to pass a test to own a dog...
JackieMaya replied to Seijun's topic in Everything about dogs
Unfortunately, that is a real common reaction for lots of dog owners: call your dog to come and then hit him when he comes to you. Before I started cabling Maya in the back yard, every time she would jump the fence, I would get in my truck to go get her. She was just having WAY too much fun running around the neighborhood. I would call her, and when she FINALLY came to me, I praised her and told her what a good girl she was (even though I was mad at her). She's VERY good at coming when I call when she's on her harness (or when she was at the doggie picnic). But if she gets over the fence, she gets mommie-deaf. With dogs as well as horses, temper NEVER works! Patience is the key! Many new dog owners think that discipline is the same as hitting, so some of them don't discipline at all, and others do it to extremes. Wouldn't it be wonderful if you had to take a test to get a dog? In a perfect world, everyone would know how to take care of dogs and there wouldn't be any unwanted pets out there! -
I don't know if this would work with liquid medication, but when I had to give pills to Maya when she got sick, I smeared peanut butter on the bottom of her food bowl, then sprinkled the crushed-up pill over that, and then her food over that. She licked the bowl clean every time!
Motto of this story, don't mess with the small bitches.

-
Maybe he scraped up against some poison ivy or something like that? That would make him keep licking it because of the itchiness. I know that witch hazel works real well on horses for bug bites; maybe it would work for dogs too?
-
I second the bathroom idea. As long as you can ensure that he can't get into anything, it would be a good place for him to be. He wouldn't feel as confined as he would in a pen.

Here's a list of t.v. shows and movies that had dogs in them. It lists what breed they are and some other info. http://www.geocities.com/doug-tricarico/moviedogad.html

Okay, the movie I was talking about (I did some searching) is called "Man's Best Friend," and the dog is a GORGEOUS black and tan Tibetan Mastiff. Here is what they said about the movie: Plot Summary for Man's Best Friend (1993) A genetically mutated dog is accidentally released from the lab of Dr. Jarret and ends up at the home of news reporter/animal rights advocate Lori Tanner. The dog, Max, endowed with intelligence and other special abilities, is at first lovable, but also proves to be a ferocious, unstoppable killer.
-
The coolest dog I saw on t.v. was in a movie about a dog who was being used in experiments, and escaped (with the help of some humans) from the lab. I can't remember the name of the movie, but the dog was huge, some kind of mastiff, maybe Pyrenean Mastiff? Gorgeous dog.

Yahoo! Little Boonie is on his way back to health! Congratulations and good luck to Boonie!
-
DAL, I'm SO sorry to hear about poor little Boonie's latest diagnosis of heartworm. Poor little guy has been through so much. Whatever decision you make will be the right decision, as you know best what Boonie can handle. My most positive thoughts are sent down to you and Boonie.

Good reminder! I'm a bona fide chocoholic, and I always keep my stash either in the freezer or in the cupboards.

I decided that I'm not going to send Jackie and Maya to the kennel any more when I go out of town. I know that it's hard on Jackie (since Jackie had been in "jail" before I adopted her). And it's WAY too expensive. When I went to Florida last month for I think 5 days, my kennel bill was over $400! I'm going to go to Las Vegas the beginning of February for a 3-day trip (my brother and his family live there), so that will be my first time having people come to the house to take care of Jackie and Maya. I'm going to get it all planned so that someone will be coming over to the house AT LEAST 3 times a day to feed them and give them some TLC. They're both SO good in the house, and it's THEIR house, so I know they'll be MUCH happier that way. It'll probably be 2 or 3 different people who will be taking care of them, so I'll make sure they all have each other's phone numbers, and will get it real organized beforehand. We used to do this with Cracker, my previous Golden, and it worked out great.

Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia...... boonies diagnosis
JackieMaya replied to a topic in Everything about dogs
DAL, I'm so sorry to hear about Boonie's diagnosis. Poor little guy! I'm sure glad that the meds appear to be helping! Crossing fingers and paws for a healthy life for Boonie and for a safe return for your hubby! -
Congratulations! What a beauty!

Awww, sorry you had to let the pups go. But now you'll be able to help another dog get a new start on life! Congratulations on doing such a good job with the puppies, even though there were some real tough times.
