1. no I dont, but if you believe the mass hysteria about Pits, seeing teeth, even though we know its a grin, comes across as a threat... showing teeth is always portrayed to be bad. even when we know its just a smile, other people dont... 8)
2. DAL, I have backed you up before on a lot of issues, with hubby, and Boonie, and Stryker....but I'm sorry, I CANT on this one. this is not a responsible decision. you need to get your own life in line before adding other lives to it.... I know you wanted a lap puppy, but getting one could have waited till after the move, til yours and Justins lives have stabilized, and till all is well day to day.
3. my lab LOVES tennis balls....she defuzzes them, and then destroys them... :o
4. she's off of house arrest. tests came back negative, but the coon had some kind of infection so they have her on antibiotics now. but at least she can play outside again, with Laurel.... 8) 8) 8) 8)
5. my hound has that submissive grin, and also does the grumbly/growly thing. I always have to explain it, however, I cant seem to catch her doing it to get a picture. she doesnt do it to me, only people she doesnt know or isnt sure about...
6. thank you for that...I will watch her very closely. if the results come back positive she will have to be quarantined anyway, so glad to know. I will forward this to them. thank you.
7. I am REALLY sorry to hear that. there are sometruly stupid people in the world...her owners fall into that category, obviously.... :(
8. no I'm not in trouble. just got read the riot act, thats all. I said the same thing you guys did...what if that coon IS rabid? and attacks a child, or another dog, or a puppy before they can get their rabies shot? everyone in this neighborhood has dogs. I have 5 connecting yard neighbors; 4 of them have dogs, who like Free, are out in their yards to play and do their business. as far as I know, I am the ONLY one with a firearm and a marksmanship certificate. (the one neighbor I dont like much ignores me after finding that out...y'see, these things work out - ) so he kinda chilled out after that, checked out the documentation and said "ok, in this instance it may have been warranted, so no further action will be taken" (just couldnt break down and say I was right, now could ya?  ) I also pointed out that I did try to hit it with a broom first. I heard the fight and looked out the window, got the gun and the broom, tried the non-lethal action first. the AC guy stared at me and said ARE YOU INSANE??? and then started glaring at the cop..... I have a bad headache now....after all that, I started drinking....    but Free's here, albeit not allowed off the property til Saturday, and they should have the brain result mid-week.... I have been shooting for 10 years now...only once have I ever killed anything...a deer, hit by a car, three legs broken. I had been out target shooting. AC couldnt get there quickly, so I gave them my license number and asked that I be allowed to put it out of its misery. they checked the license and said ok. I came close to shooting the skunk that got my dog twice in one week...then thought "what if its a mom, nursing kits?" and couldnt do it. I couldnt even make the possum under the shed go away....I'm such an animal woos.....
9.
Tell your friend we love and admire her for adopting!...now she must join..we dont want to miss out on any more of Red's life!!!
what she said....
10. you have another Meg y'know......   good jobs, both Kes AND Kat....I dont think its a coincidence that Kes is becoming as good as you trained Meg. 8)
11. actually, she's home now. someone else suggested I look up the Ill code, and it says providing the biting animal was turned over to the county I can keep Free on "House Arrest"...so she's here now. also, when AC got here there was bloodon my hands, from washing Free's wounds, and he thought I had gotten bitten as well. I was not exactly normal last night after all of this....they are sending the coon to a lab to have its brain tested. the vet that examined her said just to keep the wounds clean. they are concerned about rabies. Coons dont normally act that way around a dog. well, big dog at least.... they are coming out today to search for a den. then I got yelled at for discharging a weapon within city limits. had to drag out the license and markmanship certificate.... my x taught me to shoot, and I target shoot for sport. here, to own a gun, you have to re-up the licensing fee every year, at 300.00 dollars a year, or get a marksman certificate, and re-up every 3 years at 150.00. the police put on the classes. and you have to be able to prove you have proper handling skills, know how to load and unload, know the laws (which is why I got yelled at),and prove you have a proper, lockable steel gun cabinet, with seperate compartments for weapon and ammo. gun has to be kept locked down while not in use.
12. I am SOO upset. I know it has to be done but she has all her shots!!! she tangled with a coon. got bit., not bad, I cleaned it up and she's fine. now, for the hard part...please forgive me, I shot the coon. it wouldnt give up. it latched onto her, and wouldnt let go, which is why they thought it might be rabid...I hit it with a broom, and it wouldnt let go. it was a major fight, Free wouldnt quit (not surprisingly), it wouldnt quit... I shot it,. up close. it wouldnt stop fighting with Free.... she is at the vets, under observation...I want her home. they wont release her for ten days, even with shots. I turned the coon over to them. they were surprised. "you SHOT it?" YES..it was hurting my dog!!!
13. to some extent I agree, but not to completely ban the breedingof dogs. I have said this many times before, but some of the newer members may not have seen it. there is the PAWS bill already on the table to try to put a stop to BYB's and excessivie breeding, by requiring inspections and I believe licensing. I have said all along that ALL breeders should be licensed. the amount of the license would depend on the output. the PAWS bill limits breeders to so many litters or so many puppies a year that can be sold. I think the limits are high, myself, but its a place to start. I would add to that....and this is where I always get flamed, so zipping up the flak suit now.... NO ONE breeds without a license. that license requires them to prove that the health certs have been done, the breeding is done for show, or to better the breed, and the "gene pool" the breeding is done from is genetically wide enough to reduce the risk of genetic defects. I ama firm believer in NOT in- and line-breeding. you can only rein the gene pool in so far before it becomes unviable. will this change the appearance of the dog in question? yes, definitely...is that a bad thing? NO, not IMO. they bred labs with GR heads for so long it was making me sick. Labs should have battering ram heads, and an otter tail that can clear a coffee table in a single sweep. second, if you are not a licensed breeder, or showing the dog, than it MUST be spayed/neutered. this would not be as hard to track as everyone thinks. rabies shots are tracked here by the county. the vet is required to fill out a form showing the shots have been done, and send it to the county. you will lose your dog if you dont comply. same could be done for neutering. they wont catch everyone, I know, but the majority of people do take their dogs to the vet for shots and such. will people like it? maybe not, but I really dont care. there is no reason to have an unneutered dog unless you intend to show it (and I have issues with that as well) or are a licensed breeder. I dont want to hear ANY of the crap about "just one litter will be good for her..." or "I want to teach my kids the miracle of birth...." (its all on video. go buy one. its cheaper than the litter you want to have). I think if this could be enforced, you'd see a lot less animals in shelters. the BYB's would be gone, from regulation, or forced to put up or shut up about their litters. the oopps births would be gone, if all dogs had to be done. there will always be shelters, and pups in need. this wont stop the stupid from giving up their St. Bernard because they had NO IDEA it would end up at 200 lbs..... but I think it would put quite a dent in the problem... 8)
14. bitch wars? bones? we have them here all the time...I let them work it out unless it gets ugly, then I stomp, and yell DAWGS!! NOW! and they stop. dont wanna piss mom off, thats more painful than bitch wars. **I** dont posture...both have had to go through 10 minutes of harsh obedience training, without treats (only a "good girl") afterwards. they learned....
15. ok I'm feeling feisty, so I will jump in and tick EVERYBODY OFF! (sorry K) whether the dog is purebred, crossbred, or just a plain Heinz 57 is irrelevant to health. how the pups turn out depends, GENETICALLY, on the health of the parents. many mixes get HD..many get vision issues, hearing issues...not because they are purebred, or because they are mixes, but because those genes existed in the parents gene pool. people think mixes are healthier, I disagree. I think the diseases are more a media thing, on purebreds. and to breeders. I think we hear more about them in PB's....because the breeders want those traits to go away. I can understand that. But there are many mixes with same issues. unfortunately, the owners dont "report them" (who would they report them to?) and either pay to get the problems corrected, live with it, or euthanize the dog. genetically, they're all the same. the are Canis Familiaris....domesticated dogs. in the wolf pack, these problems dont exist, because "less capable" animals die, and are allowed to, or killed, by the pack, to prevent these issues from being genetically carried on. Life in the real world is much harsher than life in ours, as far as Canis breeding goes. the pack has no use for an animal with HD. it cant hunt, it cant help support the pack... and wolves are ALL mixed breeds. 8)
16. if you have the money, get a video recorder with wide angle capability, and set it up to cover as much of the yard area as possible, close to his yard. then TELL him you did it. Amazing what possibly getting caught on tape will do to prevent things from happening.... :evilbat:
17.
I wanna be a marksman, no fair! :( I'd rather do it with a bow and arrow though :) Tell the kid 'I'm gonna have a weenie roast and I need some shishkabob. Any takers?' :)
I have bow training too. although that was long ago, I havent shot one in years, but I ticked off the guys at Renaissance Fair back then. they had target deers, and if you could hit the "bulls eye" you'd win a big stuffed animal. I hit it three times...they werent happy....
18. the easiest way to get rid of her, is to not respond...hard, I know.... 8) I dont have a problem with GOOD breeders...to me, you dont appear to be one.so hopefully this thread will end now, with admins blessing, and you will GO AWAY... (hint hint hint...) 8)
19. GO Goo, GO Goo.... keep us in the loop, ok? 8)
20. Free will not allow sickness, illness or hurt. she will stay by the injured parties side, have to be dragged out to do her business, will lick not only wounds, but dirt, off of anywhere she can reach.... Laurel lays her head in your lap and wont be moved til you're better...or moved at all if she's comfy...
21. it gets even funnier....Kyle came home from work and told me that the guy was spreading all kinds of junk about how his mom was crazy, and threatened him with a gun, and he was gonna call the police, etc. (I am a registered marksman. my guns are legal here, and the police know it) and one of his friends, who knows me well, went into a "OH MY GOD" rant...then explained that I was a registered marksman, and he had seen me shoot(which is true, he and my son target shoot with me) and I can hit a target square bulls eye at 25 feet( all of which is true)and then ends it with..." and you P'D her off???? I'd stay FAR away from THAT house if I were you...." then Kyles GF joins in with "and by the way, my dad is an X-hells angel" (not true) and he LIKES Kyle (is true...)and he went white as a sheet, according to all the witnesses...went to his car (this was this morning) and hasnt been seen since.... there ought to be a cure for testosterone in teenagers...
22. ok now this is BAD, but I may have resolved the issue. the guy showed up at the door, demanding to see Kyle...on a hunch I said "he's cleaning up your mess, get off my property..." and he said the ONE thing that will always tick me off...."MAKE ME...." OK, you asked for it....went and got my pistol, (unloaded) showed up at the door and asked, very politely, "Which knee you willing to lose?" He freaked out, jumped in his car, and left. Kyle is still laughing...
23. an animal could not open that part of the gate. its held sut by a slide bar in the middle, and a base bar that goes into a drilled hole in the cement. so it had to be human. I bet when my son moves out this will stop. the testosterone with him and the other people he knows and his girlfriend is becoming way messy for me... I'm pretty certain this was the kid Kyle told me about, who wants his girlfriend and cant take no for an answer.... of course, I didnt KNOW any of that till after it happened.... Kyle is cleaning up the yard as we speak. 8)
24. not that I KNOW of..however, my son told me about an issue with a guy that wanted to take his girlfriend away. she flat out blew him off, she loves my son...he didnt take it kindly.... coulda been him...I gave his name to the police. we'll see... I have that part of the gate locked up with bungie cords and a makeshift padlock...so it cant be opened at all from the outside....
25. the dogs were going ballistic....at the back door! (highly unusual) I went and looked out, and the gate was open. the door to the gate is locked, but there is a bigger piece that has two doors that open in, to allow cars and big things into the yard. there is no outside way to open that part, or so I thought.... apparently someone spent quite some time using a screwdriver and grabber of some sort, to release the cement catch and the door slide catch, then dumped GARBAGE all over the patio in my yard.... WTF? I called the police, dont know theres much they can do....     the back door is unlocked while I'm home....thank Dog the dogs alerted. I may have left them out without realizing it otherwise...
