we got there at like 5 and there were NO dogs in the store so we waited around and lee anne siad to go ahead adn stick around for the 6 pm class. she has a 13 week old Golden Retreiver named Shamous ( SOO FREAKING CUTE i wanted to steal him! ) and a schnouzert named peper..
he did GREAT!!!
he did growl at Shamous one time becuase he backed away and and shamous just went and plopped down at Cody's feet, in his personal space and he got mad but that was it! so we are going to try sticking with this class now!!!!

Good for you and Cody!!!! :multi: I am so happy for you both...you were right in your title that little Cody had lots of class in class last night!!!
Enjoy yourself and you and Cody have fun! when ever I attend obedience I make alot of new friends with each class I attend...I find it to be a social night out with my dogs which we both can have fun. Hopefully your obedience class is like mine are and you all keep in touch after wards, that way all the new friends Cody has made he can keep by getting together and going for walks.

Did you end up having his eyes tested? I'm curious about that still
Cassie is right, you do make alot of friends!!! I'm friends with all the trainers, which is great because they know so much. I also have made a few really good friends from it who I can go out with at night, study with at uni and travell with in the holidays. One of them owns a Pit, which is great cuz it means I can get lots of Pittie hugs and also he's best friends with Lily and the socialisation with such an overly friendly dog is great for Lily. Another has a smaller dog which I'm hoping will become good friends with Montie (Montie is so territorial inside right now, but he'll be neutered soon and hopefully they'll get along!) so not only do you benefit from the friendships, but your dogs do too. If Cody can make even one special friend at training, that'll be a big leap towards him making more friends as well.
Good luck! :D

Forgive the Golden - the well bred ones like everybody, and expect the same in return...they appear to be oblivious to personal space... mine always wanted to get in everyone's face and love them to death.....

I'm glad Cody has found a good class, but I too am curious to know about the eye check....is his vision normal or not?

Yes i meet everyone and seem to make friends in EVERY class that cody has been in.. LOL and that's been a lot!! Lee Anne said it's just tha COdy is very subtle with his signs that he gives out. so it will tkae a while for the dogs to read him. but i think we will have fun in this class. ( althugh hubby is not allowed anymore.. now he wants a golden  which is fine becuase i think they are gerogus dogs.. but ummhello we have 2 already.. so he will have to wait until the time comes for hte rainbow bridge.. and that's a good 13 years away!!!

The only place around here that tests eyes is not taking any new clients in until Dec..
so i have to wait until then. i can call in Mid Nov to make the appointment. i'm upset but excited and anxious to make the appointmnet and hear the news!!

Good luck for November. Until then I don't think you'll have too much trouble learning to read his signs, which may be hard if it IS his eyesight. Just watch for a stiff stance, thats usually the biggest tell tale sign of a pending attack, even with dogs who don't raise their hackles. I'm that way with Lily now that some how I can feel when she is getting antsy with another dog before she shows any signs at all... after a while it does become like a sixth sence

I know when he is going to attack or go after. its the other dogs who can't tell his signs. i try to keep an eye on him at all times. but sometimes i get to involved in the calls to look at what Codys doing!

Another thing is that is might not be Cody's fault. If the other dog is properly socialized, they should be able to read Cody and act accordingly. Mary is pretty particular about her personal space, especially when she decides she is done playing. Some dogs dont know when to stop. They are the ones at fault not Mary. At the dog park there was a golden that was about 10 months, VERY playful and with no idea how big it was. They played for a while but he was really out of control and Mary is just too civilized for that ;) so she decided she was done. He wouldn't quite. She would give the growl and the warning snap to back off, and you would think the dog was deaf and blind. It just had no clue. So remember, it may not always be Cody's problem. He is most likely justified in his response.
